        Ah deadly.

The other two weren’t great I thought. Especially Falcon and WS

Gonna watch it tonight so ;)

  1. D-troll

sinn fein often trend alot?. If so id say FFG should have alarm bells going off.

No doubt in my mind that Mary Lou will be taoiseach after next election.

    1. Cian

      Trending for the wrong reason.
They were caught “pretending” to be pollsters asking about people’s voting preferences.

      1. GiggidyGoo

FG are no saints eh Cian?
Varadkar was asked about FG doing exactly the same thing.
Varadkar said he “can’t swear blind about local arrangements that may have been done in the past”

        Hah!

        1. ce

“Varadkar was asked about FG doing exactly the same thing.” – yeah, that was fun… woopsie

  2. millie bobby brownie

    Think I’ll pass.

Immunocompromised child to think of and all that. One visit to the high dependency ward in Temple St was plenty for this year.

    1. Bitnboxy

+10000 I wear my mask in stores and when required for the sake of other people NOT ME. Same reason I give old dears and those with small kids and prams a bit of space on the street or where-ever. It seems to make older people and some others more comfortable.

But hey, a grifter nincompoop Paytriot like Cummins, sees the attention-seeking stunts might be coming to an end and wants one last swipe of your bank cards.

      1. A Lovely Horst

Oh get off the stage. We all know what you are. Manufacturing conversations between your self and your alter ego, Unreal. Youre a leopard who cannot change his spots. Despicable.

        1. Bitnboxy

Love, I don’t know who you think I am but I think is fair to say, you’re quite the oddball.

Suffice it to say, I am not going anywhere.

Sorry, not sorry you strange fish.

    2. ce

Yeah, protect the vulnerable… unless, you know, it involves me wearing a thing like a scarf, that’s just outrageous nazi-voodoo.

  3. ce

Thanks doctor/researcher/epidemiologist/John Galt/Dietitian Ivor… Follow the science… as long as it confirm what you want it to say… ask questions of the data, as long as it says what you want it to say… etc.

Sticking it to the man by spreading dangerous nonsense which endangers the lives of other by not following simply public health advise (and because section of the public are still incapable of learning how to wear a mask and distance)… under the spurious ground that somehow your rights are taken away by wearing…what amounts to…. a scarf…

Bad auld dose in the UK, Brazil, India, US, etc…

    1. SOQ

Didn’t take long for the personal attacks to start eh? Did it ever occur to you why this is happening now?

The medical junta there want to extent the lockdown there- on the filmiest evidence of a variant with minute increases in hospitalisations. One million marched a few weeks ago and the next one will be bigger.

And as for à la carte science quoting- pot and kettle comes to mind.

      1. Bitnboxy

        @SOQ “Medical junta”. Lol

You know what, I am beginning to think you lot desperately don’t want all of this to come to an end. The outlet this has given you for the most apocalyptic predictions about the state of Irish and western democracies leaves the most ardent never-Trumpers in the shade.

The reality is, let’s face it, you don’t want any of the restrictions to end.

And when they do, I wonder what will fill the void.(The last comment is more directed at Ivor Cummins, de Brun et al).

        1. SOQ

Oh dear more Ad hominem attacks- I have now lost two friends to cancer- both whom had either their diagnosis or treatment delayed because of this absolute BS- and I am certain I am not the only one. I have two other friends who have lost their businesses and probably their home too- you have not got the slightest notion what I want.

Just because it does not find into your lazy unquestioning mindset does not mean other people do not have the right to voice their dissent and yes- to protest. It’s called democracy- move to China if you don’t like it.

          1. Bitnboxy

See above Millie’s comment in relation to mask wearing and her child. One wears a mask either to protect other people or even as a gesture to make them a little more comfortable. It’s not fuppin’ too much to ask, is it? Yet you lot portray it as some sort of Guantanamo bay torture ritual. Drives me potty.

Likewise mate, you want to see some real curbs and threats to freedoms, move to China or Russia. See what you think then.

          2. Oro

            “Probably lost their home”

Did you stop paying attention midway through their telling you the story or…….?

          3. SOQ

Home yet to be decided but business definitely gone- but sure its all a tale and yarn to you now isn’t it? Couldn’t possibly happen eh?

Well here’s a reality check- some of those independent shops will never open again- a business that someone put their heart and soul into- and behind nearly everyone of those shops is a family.

          4. Oro

I didn’t say anything about the businesses. You were being misleading about something that happened in a past tense. You either lost something or you didn’t. It’s not a modifiable thing.

But you do this all the time so tbh your claims aren’t the most credible, and you attack others’ claims as false more than anyone else on this site so I don’t think you’re necessarily deserving of any trust.

          5. Micko

My wife’s uncle has had the investigation into his possible cancer pushed twice now. The more recent one was only last week.

I believe time is of the essence when it comes to these things.

I know everyone’s experience is different on this thing, but I don’t personally know a single person who died of covid.

And SOQ’s experiences are just as relevant as anyone else. Covid is not the only game in town – although you’d think it was.

          6. Oro

I only spoke about the weird claim about the house – which was hazy and vague and misleading.

Speaking of vague and misleading, a dental check up could be termed an ‘investigation into possible cancer’ it’s so non-specific.

          7. Oro

It’s at least a little bit specific. As with all of your anecdotes it becomes specific in how it needs to be to be useful to you – but I hope it is benign.

My initial comment to be clear was not related to the claims about patients rather the claims about the house – which could not be true in how it was written. So SOQ’s experiences can be relevant, but one clearly written as a lie is not.

          8. Micko

“ As with all of your anecdotes it becomes specific in how it needs to be to be useful to you ”

Are you saying I’m speaking propaganda then?

            Bit much no?

          9. Micko

“ information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view.”

            Prop-aga-n-da..

“a touch of the fabulist” eh?

More like a touch of knowing what words mean in English ffs.

          10. Oro

Haha you’ve some high opinion of yourself. Propaganda!

Why don’t we settle on tall tales. More fitting.

          11. Micko

Hey, you were the one who said I was telling tales to suit my own narrative. I just taught you the correct definition of the word.

I didn’t put words in your mouth…. Or did I?

            Muhahahahahahahah! #mindcontrol

And yes, I have a super dooper opinion of myself.

Only in Ireland is that a slur… weird eh?

Must be a catholic thing I guess

          12. Oro

Ok I didn’t want to get into a back and forth about definitions but no reasonable person would describe you making stuff up on an anonymous forum as propaganda.

Propaganda historically involves a finesse of media and a certain level of organization and a degree of calculation that I could never accuse you of, because you are not in possession of those things.

And you haven’t put a single word in my mouth, only left a bad taste – instinct tells me you have form in that.

          13. SOQ

I do not lie Oro- my accounts are real- people have and will continue to die and will continue to have their lives ruined because of this lockdown madness.

Why is nobody speaking up for the small indigenous business owners- don’t they matter anymore?

        2. K. Cavan

Hey, Bitnboxy, you really don’t know what time it is, do you? You never read the memo? The “restrictions” have only just begun & they will go on until folks like your good self grow some backbone, so, not stopping any time soon. Guess where we’re all gonna be, next Christmas, go on, take a wild stab at it.

      2. ce

Everybody is entitled to hold any opinion they want – it doesn’t mean it needs to be respected … that’s the kind of idiotic world the overly-Woke have brought us too… superficial balance…

“Did it ever occur to you why this is happening now?” – Yes it did… the problem with conspiracy theories is they miss what is actually going on… in this case the sad truth is it is simply human incompetence and the inability to following simple public health guidelines and practices… and so we are now dealing with a mess… it will – very sadly, as it all could have been so much easier – involve mass vaccinations because people argued about scarfs and quarantine etc… And so we still have 2-4 years at least of this nonsense.

Here’s how conspiracy theories work –

Chem trails? No it’s actually companies and ourselves polluting the environment by burning carbon fuels/dead dinosaurs… no it’s definitely chem trails… this one is the same, Ivor and the like is playing you.

“One million marched a few weeks ago and the next one will be bigger.” – Good for them, numbers do not influence reality… at least on this level of reality… if you really want to argue about the quantum level… go a head

“pot and kettle comes to mind” – congratulations you win the comment sections… sometimes either it’s the pot or the kettle that is right…

I’m sure lots of people who disagree with me here – including yourself – are very nice people who have very good intentions for the rest of humanity – but it doesn’t mean you are correct, and the sooner you realize you are being manipulated by con-artists like Ivor and co… to the same degree and in the same way much of the media and advertising etc. attempts to do this on the wider population… the better.

        1. Nigel

‘that’s the kind of idiotic world the overly-Woke have brought us too’

Uh, no. More like it’s the ‘anti-woke’ who demand you respect all opinions no matter how awful. Or rather, just their opinions, no matter how awful.

      3. Cian

The medical junta there want to extent the lockdown there- on the filmiest evidence of a variant with minute increases in hospitalisations.

i just had a deja vu flashback. Do you remember back in November/December taking a similar line on the increase in cases then? And then playing down the increases in hospitalisations?
Do you remember that 1000s died in spring?

You were wrong last year. – the experts were right What make you think that the experts will be wrong this time and you’ll be right?

        1. SOQ

1000s MORE dying in spring 2020 was it? Sorry love- no real extra deaths- try again. Ireland was well within its overall fatality window.

Why do you people want to believe this BS? Is it that you really think it or you are just to proud to accept you were wrong?

          1. Cui Bono?

They’re too proud to admit that they’ve been fooled.

The data proves them wrong and they see themselves as intelligent but at the end of the day they believed the hype, were gullible and now they don’t accept the data and resort to silly ad hominem and strawman arguments.

          2. Cian

            Spring was 2021.

We had all this “look the cases are rising”, “th E hospitalization is rising” in November and December.
            The deaths happened in Jan/Feb/March.

Luckily we were back in lockdown so the cases started to drop quickly.

          3. SOQ

Yes what exactly happened in spring 2021- nursing home fatalities went crazy post vaccination for example- and extra 400 if memory serves me- are they being claimed as Covid-19 deaths too?

And why has Ireland’s data been scrubbed from the euromomo site? They definitely were submitting previously.

    2. Micko

“Bad auld dose in the UK, Brazil, India, US, etc…”

Cases and deaths in India have fallen off a cliff since mid May though yeah?

With only 3.3% of their population vaccinated too.

      https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/india/

The deaths and cases and panic was in every single newspaper and online news media the last few weeks

      Now… tumbleweeds…

      1. ce

“Cases and deaths in India have fallen off a cliff since mid May though yeah?” – yeah, right after the 350,000 fell off the cliff…

Well science in college guy – nobody know how many people have died in India or got infected… but why let that get in the way of an opinion… and while it is not the most deadly disease ever, it’s damn nasty… they ran out of oxygen in their hospital… nothing to see… move along… and in a relatively young population etc…. sure only 2000 or so died today… you never did complexity in science college just learning to find the paper you liked and kept the reductive thinking going? So while your at it, give us your great insight on the US, UK, Belgium… or maybe you can have your contacts in India and the US etc. let you know what’s really going on…

“Now… tumbleweeds…” yeah, kind of works that way in the media, short attention span…

        Don’t be afraid of scarfs…

        1. Micko

“and while it is not the most deadly disease ever, it’s damn nasty… ”

Yes – you are correct Sir. I 100% agree.

Also, I talk about Belgium and the rest of Europe below.

Tune in to tomorrows episode viewers…

Also ce, I know I hurt your “feelings” or whatever the other day, but I think you should let it go.

I did genuinly try to rectify it the day after. ;)

Don’t live in the past dude

          1. ce

“Also ce, I know I hurt your “feelings” or whatever the other day, but I think you should let it go. ”

I have no feeling… except the ones I get from yet another face-palm following the reading of an Ivor tweet… it’s my own fault for reading them…

          2. Micko

Ok, we’ll maybe not bringing up stuff from previous conversations? It doesn’t help anyone.

Would be great if we could deal with what someone has said today.

            Fair enough?

      2. Cian

        More “facts” from Micko.

India has continued it’s vaccine rollout; and have 45 million fully vaccinated and another 143 million with one dose.

Based on the adult population: over 20% have had one dose; and almost 5% are fully vaccinated.

They are about where we were about 2 months ago.

And what happened in May that preceded the drop in cases and deaths?

        Lockdowns.

        1. Micko

          Eh – yeah Cian

          3.3% of 1,39 Billion is 45 Million

          Literally what I said.

          3.3% of 1392642289 = 45957195

          What’s your point?

          1. Cian

            I’ll try use small words.

            1) that is based on all the people, not just the big people.
            2) that is based on two doses. But you get protection after one dose.

20% of the adults have had at least one dose.
5% of the adults have had two doses.

            —-

any comments on the lockdowns in India that have helped save tens of thousands of lives?

          2. Micko

“ I’ll try use small words.”

Ooooh dazzle me with your mighty intellect oh great one!

Anyway, I think I’ll reserve my judgement on lockdowns, until all the data is in.

Ye know, cancer deaths, missed treatments, undiagnosed illnesses, business closures, layoffs, suicides, depression, anxiety and more fun to come.

          3. ce

Lockdowns are awful – but you can have proper quarantine/international… maybe some regional travel restrictions (which could be mitigate with proper testing etc.) or you can have an infectious disease that can cripple your health service and leave you with the choice (or no choice really) between treating one disease or another… senior hurling here not the debate club…

Also, data is only as good as the question you ask of it… regardless of the field… that being said, plenty of places in the world dealt with this better, and still had something of a life and health service… the “data is in”

        2. f_lawless

“And what happened in May that preceded the drop in cases and deaths?

          Lockdowns.”

That might hold some weight if you could point to any examples anywhere around the world in the last year and a half where a trend in rapidly escalating cases was dramatically turned around just after lockdown measures were imposed. The real-world evidence shows that lockdown measures have never re-directed the epidemiological curve in such a way. The idea that Indian cities with their vast and over-crowded slum areas could impose such effective lockdowns isn’t credible.

The more compelling explanation is that many Indian states defied WHO advice and re-adopted Ivermectĭn as a part of their Covid treatment protocol. In the states, such as Tamil Nadu which decided to exclude Ivermectĭn from the region’s treatment protocol cases continued to soar.

The drug is a major threat to Big Pharma’s profits as if it were ever to be authorised as a safe and effective treatment for Covid by governing health bodies such as the WHO, EMA etc, then the emergency use authorisations currently in place for the experimental vaccines would no longer be justified.

Worth a read: (the India situation is mentioned in the second half)

          https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2021/05/i-dont-know-of-a-bigger-story-in-the-world-right-now-than-ivermectin-ny-times-best-selling-author.html

    3. K. Cavan

You think it’s ok that Muslim women are beaten & jailed for not wearing what amounts…to…a scarf, I assume? Yes, dude, demanding that someone wear what you think they should is very much an infringement on their rights, no matter how much of RTE’s fake science you invoke. Masks help spread Coronaviruses more efficiently, social distancing at less than 24 feet is a complete waste of time (& space), these are facts. The pandemic is nowhere to be seen in our mortality figures, just give it up, you were conned, not your fault, the politicians’ science was as fake as their election promises, they lie, all the time, it’s virtually their job.

    1. Daisy Chainsaw

In the real world there’ll be 10 mardy cranks squawking outside the GPO while most people wander around without their masks on until they go into a shop/cafe ignoring them.

  4. Darce

ah.. I ws hoping the other article was a once off. but this is pretty clear that broadsheet is resoundly an anti-mask site. eeshk! so odd. ok ill be off then.

    1. K. Cavan

An anti-mask site? Holy cow, we lost the cure for Covid the day you decided not to pursue a career in Virology. Bye!

    1. K. Cavan

Since over 80% of cases never have any symptoms, a ”case” means someone who is at a less than 20% chance of even developing any symptoms, a healthy person, in other words. So a 90% increase in ”cases”is actually a less than 18% increase in possible infections. It’s a fact that PCR tests are wrong, most of the time & anyway only the percentage of tests that are positive has any numerical meaning, otherwise, the ”number of cases” is simply decided by the number of tests. If you haven’t copped on to this by now you need to take your head out of there.

  5. eoin

Masks….do….nothing. Even Doc Fauci himself has admitted this. Look up the size of a germ and then look up the size of the gaps between the weave of a mask. Ash particles in smoke are larger than germs, so if masks don’t stop smoke……? Wearing a mask outdoors is like advertising the fact that you’re stupid or far too compliant or some sort of weird mask lover.

    1. Micko

      BRACE YOURSELF!!!!!

THE CLUTCHING OF PEARLS IS INCOMING EOIN

Hehe – referencing retro memes is the best

      1. ce

Scarfs people… scarfs…. they are the tool of the devil….

Keep on coughing in the free world…

        1. Micko

“Keep on coughing in the free world”

You’ve made that joke three times this week.

SNL will NOT be calling sir…

maybe a gig at RTE is in your future though?

    2. GiggidyGoo

I don’t know if it was here or elsewhere, but someone made the point about being able to smell a fart that has been let off, and two pieces of fabric (jocks and trousers) are unable to contain it.

        1. GiggidyGoo

Wasn’t exactly the point. But at least you got the drift that particles escape very easily through fabrics. The only thing now is to compare the size of fart particles to that of particles.

          1. ce

And the wetness of the fart as the tiny covid particles are transmitted in a wet fart droplet…

          2. K. Cavan

Fear Of The Droplet is very strong in this one, Giddy. Don’t be laying all that science and logic on him. In fact, about 600 Coronavirus virions, side by side, can pass through the holes in the weave of high quality t-shirt cotton, two layers of that fabric is the equivalent of a disposable surgical mask. Some virions (infective virus particles) are about the size of some molecules, we’re talking about stopping things the size of a couple of atoms, with cloth, total fantasy.

    3. Dara

      What germ?
Are you confused what a virus is?
Masks obviously impact dispersion – they don’t have to be impermeable to do that.

  6. Micko

Ah Belgium – I see they’ve provisionally given the go ahead for an outdoor festival in August for 75K punters.

That’s Belgium – the country that has been one of the worst hit in deaths per million in Europe – and 12th overall globally! :-0

Higher than, Italy, UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, France, Poland, Portugal, SWEDEN, Denmark, Netherlands etc

And Hungary of course – who are actually the WORST hit in Europe for deaths per million and who also had plenty of fans in a stadium the other night to boo the Irish players. Eh? ;)

Here, we’re having a socially distanced James Vincent McMorrow gig – deadly…

…the summer is passing us by.

    1. Nigel

‘That’s Belgium – the country that has been one of the worst hit in deaths per million in Europe – and 12th overall globally! :-0…And Hungary of course – who are actually the WORST hit in Europe for deaths per million’

Let’s not follow their examples then.

      1. Micko

Actually – Belgium locked down on the 13th March – so pretty much same as us.

But yes, let’s stop everyone meeting up in the summer and possibly getting infected when the hospitals aren’t overrun.

Then, when it hits winter again all the cases that we didn’t have in the summer can add to all the normal cases of winter viruses we have, resulting in lockdown again!

Permanent rolling lockdowns and more importantly – working from home… eh eh eh?

        1. Nigel

Worse outcome, so clearly not the same as us.
Anyway, let’s hope everyone who can gets vaccinated, and we should avoid all that,

  7. Micko

Yikes.. that video above with people still wearing masks when they don’t have to, is a real eyeopener into the weird psychology of this thing…

It’s very sad how damaged they are by all of this.

  8. ce

Wait… stop press… I’ve finally seen the light and bought a diet book… also NZ and Australia don’t even exist and that’s why nobody died of Covid there… all your friends and relatives in said fake-countries… they are basically on Lost…

  9. Donald McCarthy

Even the nazis never forced Jewish people to wear masks. In fact, they actively discouraged it. According to Godwin.

    1. K. Cavan

If you’ve been infected, you are immune (or dead). The injection might kill you (assuming they won’t be wasting injections on corpses) but otherwise will have no effect. I can’t believe anyone doesn’t know this by now but I’m pretty sure no doctor would be dumb enough to inject anyone who’s been infected. Only pretty sure, mind you.
