Unlikely the need to. The first preferences for Dublin Bay South in last years General Election were:
      FG 27.71%
      GP 22.45%
      SF 16.07%
      FF 13.83%
      Lab 7.88%
      IO 4.99%
      SD 4.55%
      SPBP 2.53%

The “government parties” got 66% of the first preferences.

Lol. I can’t help but think these type of headlines about the Shinner surge will cause panicked DBS FGers to turn out on July 8th. It can be risky to be a shoo-in. Ivana Bacik could drain some FG DBS votes though from those who think Kate O’Connell was shafted (she was). All eyes will be on the Shinner vote but DBS isn’t really a bellwether constituency.

Kate O’Connell was hardly shafted – she criticised the leader of her party publicly, repeatedly, and now has to spend some time out in the cold.

I don’t think any party (well, except for the Greens, but then again they are a dysfunctional bunch) would let you away with that.

It will be interesting to see if Rathgar – D6 FGers turn out for Geoghegan (I suspect most will) but Kate O’Connell is certainly still popular and liked there. I do think there was a shade of misogyny in her fall from grace with the old FG DBS boyos. An element were not keen on a strong “mouthy” woman. Of that I have no doubt. Still, at times she did not help herself either.

I hope Irish athletes win a few medals in the Tokyo Olympics. A moonlight skinnydip for charity in Dublin Bay South might arouse mild national interest.
