Selling prices for three-bedroom semi-detached homes have risen more than 4pc over the past three months nationwide, with areas such as Drogheda and Limerick recording double-digit increases in the same period, according to new data released today by the Irish Independent REA Average House Price Index.

The survey also shows house prices in Dublin are surging by €1,500 a week.

The price of the average semi-detached home rose by an average €10,000 countrywide over the past three months to €253,685 – leading to an annual increase overall of 8pc.

The biggest rises in Q2 came in commuter counties and the country’s large towns as buyers continued to move out farther from the capital in preparation for long-term hybrid-working situations…

      Hopefully remote working will eventually see a reduction in rent and price pressures? But we shall see, no one thing is going to sort this out.

      Because we cannot go on as is, I am lucky that I bought a long, long time ago, before even the whole Celtic tiger nonsense and have no desire to move but I cannot fathom what it is like for people now, between having to show their bank details to just get a viewing or being gazumped by institutional investors, its simply not sustainable.

      FF & FG are going to perish on this rock and they will have nobody to blame but themselves.

        Yes, I think FF and FG will destroy themselves with their rigged housing market. It’s a crime designed to hurt the Irish people, so that the corrupt in power can make short term profit off their misery, then flee to the Cayman Islands or similar.

        This is a crime, there’s no mistake.

      House prices in Dublin are increasing also. The dust will settle there too.
      Looking forward to welcoming you to the South East before that.

    I love the current talk about ‘right sizing’. What does that mean?

    I grew up with a horde in a 3-bed semi sharing a room with 7 other brothers, even a bed with one of them in the early days. I had half of a drawer for myself.
    We had a day outing once time to see a house with 7 bedrooms, and over the next 25 odd years I shared a room with that bed-brother to the point I actually had all of the upstairs rooms as various siblings moved away. My stuff was literally packed up the walls.

    I currently live on my own, not alone as such, just no one else, in a 3 bed, with 2 sheds. Lets put it this way, I could not fit anyone else. Currently trying to clear an area so Little Slightly can walk from her bedroom to the shower in the morning without falling over bits of my accumulated life.

    If I right size, I will probably need a modular house with ability to grow!

      a wee two bed cottage would do me, but plonked in a field, I am steadily going off neighbors, even nice ones as I get older, I just want to garden in peace and go running on a nearby beach with the hounds, if I want civilisation sure I’ll go to Paris for a weekend.

        You sound like the wee miss. She told me yesterday she just wants to live in a cottage surrounded by fields and maybe keep a few chickens.

    Can’t help feeling a lot of people are going to get burned when they realise living in Clare and working in Dublin isn’t practical.

      depends on what your job is though doesn’t it?

      works fine for the lad living in Poland in my place, and the lads in India too.

    Flippin’ hell – it never ends. Lurching from housing crisis to housing crisis from decade to decade.

    Seems to be a five-year cycle with it.

    Fortunately i’m not in the dreadful situation where i need to buy a house or rent. If i were i’d be heading beyond the Pale. I see lots of apartment blocks going up – some nice, some awful – but based on these tired old eyes i don’t see any commensurate expansion in associated infrastructure, same roads expected to manage greater traffic volume, same schools expected to absorb the increasing local population etc.

    Is it bourgois to lament the aesthetic of some of these apartment blocks?
    They look like they were designed by contestants on Robot Wars.
