It’s day 494 of the longest lockdown in the world & Govt admits they now need “better data” on who is actually sick It’s disturbing confirmation that the decisions of Govt were taken in the absence of the facts & incomplete data.

Do you remember back in February of this year when the variants narrative really started to heat up as the first cases of already-vaccinated people testing positive for Covid began to get media coverage?

Back then they didn’t have a problem admitting what was happening: the vaccine would induce vaccine resistant variants – but not to worry, booster shots would be the in the pipeline. These days, there’s no more talk of that as all the focus is now on finding ways to stigmatise those resisting vaccination.

Clip of UK Vaccine Deployment MP Nadhim Zahawi speaking on a British news channel last February:

“This is a really important point for your viewers: Of course the virus will mutate and the more we vaccinate, the more the virus will attempt to survive and mutate even further…we’re able to sequence the genomes rapidly and then talk to the manufacturers. And you saw the deal we announced this week with CureVac where we’re looking to manufacture the new variant of vaccine that deals with the new variant of virus..”

A wonderful self-perpetuating line of business from a pharmaceutical industry perspective.

But this was well known. We knew that a lot of deaths were being reported as covid when it was “with” as wellnas “from” covid. The Belgians were awful for that as well but that was known this time last year.

In terms of needing better data and that being related to “the world’s longest lockdown”, I think we did have the necessary data for thhat lockdown. Lockdowns are primarily based on healthcare capacity. Did the case numbers, projected case numbers based on R0 and ICU occupancy and capacity linked to case numbers not justify that? Do people forget January? And what do people think would happen (prior to vaccination) if said lockdown was substantially lifted like in December? Did our healthcare capacity magically increase because we were sick of lockdowns?

Yes the covid deaths stat was including a bit of who knows what. But that was not what was determining lockdowns as Politics Watch seems to be suggesting.

Varadkar is sickening; he runs with the hares and hunts with the hounds.

… and he’s our next Taoiseach.
