Supermarket Sweep

This morning.

Via Reuters:

Britain’s supermarkets, wholesalers and hauliers were struggling on Thursday to ensure stable food and fuel supplies after an official health app told hundreds of thousands of workers to isolate after contact with someone with COVID-19.

Reuters reporters said food items were widely available in London shops although there were some shortages of bottled water, soft drinks, and some salad and meat products.

“We’re very concerned about the situation,” Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng told Sky when asked about reports of empty supermarket shelves in some areas. “We’re monitoring the situation.”

No foreign workers to pick the fruit and veg in British fields.
No foreign workers to stack the shelves in British supermarkets.

Lots of sunny uplands cos of climate change though.

yeah it’s BREXIT init. Serves im right dunit.

Nothing to do with the official health app telling hundreds of thousands of workers to self isolate. There’s plenty of loafers in the UK to that would love the auld pandemic to keep going. It’s better than work isn’t it?

Very difficult to get the whole thing going again when so many measures have been put in place to ‘ensure safety’. Look at us here. Plenty of pubs and restaurants won’t open when given permission to do so not because of an app but because of ‘discrimination’ that’s a cracker.

I’m sure there’ll be a clamour here to download our own Covid tracker app when people realise it can buy them another fortnight off work.

Huge numbers of Polish & Balkan HGV drivers upped sticks & went home as they’d not hope of getting settled status plus there are supply chain issues due to the UK’s third country status. Both are a direct result of Brexit & entirely self inflicted.

Yes, I heard a radio interview recently on LBC with Czech and Polish truck drivers who confirmed this.

No, I heard Matt Frei doing a show where drivers were calling in from Europe, they had matching accents and knowledge of intricate HGV license qualifications. I like Matt Frei, he’s good.

Absolute rubbish, and it was called out as such on BBC Business News this morning. I’ve literally just returned from doing my fortnightly shopping, which for reasons I won’t bore you with, means visiting both my local Tesco and Morrisons. There were no shortages of anything in Tesco, but Morrisons didn’t have any strawberry Cornettos so I went for white chocolate and salted caramel Extremes instead (Tesco may have had them but I didn’t look there) this was hardly surprising given the heatwave…
