    Party Healy-Rae…

In fairness if Danny had a comment nobody would understand him…

Also, looking forward to somebody photoshopping Zappone’s, Varadkar’s, Bacik’s, etc. faces into that pic

I have been in that pub. I didn’t think it could be made any more unpleasant but they managed it.

30,000 UK kids suffering long COVID according to the Independant:

If Ireland has the same rates there would be 2,270 Irish kids….

      1. Cian

        Latest from the HSE

        18-29: 73%
        30-39: 84%
        40-49: 90%
        50-59: 94%
        60-69: 96%
        70-79: 99%
        80+: 99%

But no children in this. Who are affected by covid.

          Independant? [sic] Statistics from Cian?

You’re a walking, breathing ad for specsavers because you’re so shortsighted.

… does anyone need a sheepdog sheared for free?

          1. Cian

Yes, the threshold for herd immunity is dependant on how transmissible the virus.
As Delta is more infectious – it forces the threshold higher.

          2. Micko

Pfft… would you come off it.

Society: Only a moron would risk their child’s Heath and future with a new rushed to market medicine.

A bit of wider context: The results of a 6 month study undertaken by researchers at Kings College London were recently published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health Journal. The study gained coverage in various media outlets on the 4th of August. The study’s conclusion was that long covid is uncommon in children
          eg.
          https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/0804/1238916-long-covid-uncommon-in-children-experts-claim/

Of course it’s hardly a coincidence that the alarmist headline of “30,000” appears just a day or two after the KCL report gained attention.

But the “30,000” claim is an extrapolated figure based on just 4 weeks of ONS survey data whereas the KCL research was done over a 6 month period. Furthermore, the KCL research only included children with confirmed positive Covid test results, but looking at the ONS questionaire (https://www.ndm.ox.ac.uk/files/coronavirus/covid-19-infection-survey/crf4participantenrolmentvisitv11-020210607.pdf), those who “think they have had Covid-19” without having had a test are also invited to fill in the survey. They’re given a range of various symptoms to tick off including “Low mood/not enjoying anything”, “Worry /Anxiety” “Headache” “Difficultly concentrating” “Loss of appetite”.

We know that long covid exists, but just how meaningful is this data? Seems to me it’s being used as an attempt to “manufacture consent” for the mass vaccination of children when the case isn’t really there.

          1. Cian

While the lancet report said ” long covid is uncommon in children”, it is still there in 2% of cases.

There are 800,000 under 12s in Ireland; if a quarter get Covid = 200,000 and 2% of that get long covid == 4,000.

          2. Mr T

Have to account that children are much less likely to get covid (the disease) in the first place.

2% of children with covid symptoms (i.e. clinical COVID, the disease) will get “long covid”.
But how many children who encounter the virus will develop COVID in the first place?

          3. Cian

In the last two weeks? 5,071.

            0-4 yrs 792
            5-12 yrs 1,284
            13-18 yrs 2,995

            https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/surveillance/covid-1914-dayepidemiologyreports/COVID-19_Interim%2014%20day%20report%20INTERIM_20210805_WEBSITE.pdf

Page 2. 70% of the total positives over the two weeks had symptoms, there isn’t a breakdown by age, but if we assume it is the same for kids.

            5,071 (covid positive children) * 70% (symptomatic) * 2% (long covid) = 70.

Over the last two week there will be 70 children that will suffer long Covid.

          4. E'Matty

@Cian. From the same study “Senior author Emma Duncan, professor of clinical endocrinology at King’s College London, said: “We know from other studies that many children who catch coronavirus don’t show any symptoms at all and it will be reassuring for families to know that those children who do fall ill with Covid-19 are unlikely to suffer prolonged effects.

“However, our research confirms that a small number do have a long illness duration with Covid-19, though these children too usually recover with time.”

So, Covid now around 18 months plus. What percentage suffers Long Covid 6 months, 12 months, 18 months later?

The Long Covid in kids argument really isn’t stacking up as a counter balance to the already known possible severe adverse effects from vaccination. In fact, the media have only really pushed it heavily once the kids became the next target group for vaccination.. Little bit of fear conditioning to coerce the herd. Tired with no sense of smell, or maybe shortness of breathe for 6 months or life threatening blood clot or heart inflammation? Hmmmm.

Remember, these vaccines are causing these serious adverse reactions in adult’s bodies. Adults bodies and brains are fully developed (unlike kids and teens in puberty). If many adult bodies struggle to cope with these vaccines, administering the very same vaccines, in the very same dosage to kids, is just complete lunacy. It’s sad, but it will be the most trusting and innocent in society who will potentially cause serious harm to their own child based on a delusional belief in the threat of Long Covid and this illusory nonsense of “protecting the elderly”. Kids as human shields for 85 year olds already dying with Parkinsons or of cancer or similar. What a progressive society.

        3. GiggidyGoo

Are we back to regular early morning posts by Cian giving questionable data again? There was a two month+ non-stop bombardment last year of figures for people admitted to hospital due to covid. The figures consistently questioned as to their accuracy by many here as well as the method of calculation. Figures defended to the last by Cian, only to be eventually discounted by Boss Varadkar.
Now we are back to more questionable figures being thrown out as soon as the front pages are put up, and the production of them slowly building into a Cian Crescendo.
          The overtime must be good.
Stephen Donnelly’s figures don’t seem to match though, do they? https://mobile.twitter.com/DonnellyStephen/status/1423221943118008325

          1. Cian

Thanks for that. My figures are a day older,
Stephen’s are all slightly higher than mine.

            Me
            18-29: 73%
            30-39: 84%
            40+: >90%

            Stephens:
            16-17: 63.8%
            18-29: 73%: 78.5%
            30-39: 84%: 87.9%
            40+: >90%

          2. GiggidyGoo

Except in your original post, you didn’t say 40+. You had 40-49. Donnelly is saying that the take up for 40+ is 90%. Going by your figures, yours should be a lot more than 94%?

          3. Cian

Re-read my original post (which is copied from Daisy’s tweet)

If you still don’t understand grouping ages and what “>” means… you should stop posting because you are making a fool of yourself.

          4. GiggidyGoo

            Tough Cian.
In order to try make yourself look clever, you conveniently amend your thoughts to read “>90%’ to fit the into Donnelly’s plucked figures.

If we take your original figures…………
            40-49: 90%
            50-59: 94%
            60-69: 96%
            70-79: 99%
            80+: 99%

… then why aren’t you quoting more than 90% in the 40= age group. Will I tell you? It’s because you haven’t actual concrete figures. You’re quoting a link from Daisy’s post that’s based on a Richard Chambers tweet (how professional is that). If you go to the geohive you’ll find (as usual in the cases of government figures) a disclaimer for figures not being accurate. If you go to the HSE’s website, the age breakdown isn’t as you initially posted. Here is their format. https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/newsfeatures/covid19-updates/vaccination-programme-dashboard-as-of-5-august-2021.pdf

          5. GiggidyGoo

Yep – you very bad. How’s about a link to the actual HSE ‘slide’? and not a Twitterer’s version that another twitterer re-twitterered in his own way?

Is there no link to the HSE ‘slide’. Are they still using the disclaimer for the figures they might be releasing?

          6. Cian

I came across this quote… and I though of you:

“Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon… no matter how good you are, the bird is going to poo on the board and strut around like it won anyway.”

          7. GiggidyGoo

No official link to those figures then Cian?
Looks like you’re full of pigeon poo.
I came across this quote – and obviously thought of you. ‘The only thing worse than a liar is a liar that’s also a hypocrite! ’

        4. goldenbrown

I don’t know a single solitary child in my entire circle of friends, family, work colleagues who have a child who has been affected medically by C19

this constant noise around children is manufactured claptrap as part of an aggressive marketing campaign for herd vaccination, obvious

no matter how many ways and how often its messaged or what FOMO techniques are tried from the playbook it will not reach the “Acceptance” stage amongst the vast majority I believe so good luck trying

I and I alone will decide what is right for my child, not Papa Reid

          1. Toe Up

My 14 year old nephew caught it at Christmas through school and while he is mostly fully recovered now, it took him a good month to recover properly and he still has issues with his taste and smell.

          2. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

not to diminish your anecdote but all virus take time to recover from,
I had a particularly nasty one that landed me in Beaumont for a month and another i caught in hospital that landed me in bed for a subsequent two months, it took a year for me to regain the 20kg lost, have any energy, for my menstrual cycle to return and I have nicely scared kidneys as a partings gift…long ? Normal for a virus.

I’m sure there’s info on the Nazional Party website, or Yellow vests so ask them. They’re more likely to give you an answer you won’t strop over.

Lol. @Daisy – You must forgive mad auld lad GiggidyGums who is more toothless wether than ram if we are using Sheep terminology. Judging by the time stamps on Giggz’s posts, he is back in the night shift and none too happy about it.

If you want to see the evil that is Rupert Murdoch, look at this tweet:

    https://twitter.com/KenMcAlpine/status/1423263818617004035

The HeraldSun (Hun) is a tabloid rag in Melbourne, Victoria. Victoria has a labor (Aussie spelling) Government.

The Telegraph is a Sydney, NSW paper. NSW has an LNP (Tory, right wing) Government.

Rupert’s hacks have been busy in his media and on Twitter, encouraging disharmony in Melbourne. He controls 70% of Aussie print media and has Fox News style “Sky NewsAustralia.” Sky News Aus has been taken off YouTube for a week, for misleading statements about Covid-19.

  4. GiggidyGoo

    Adrian Cummins eh? https://www.broadsheet.ie/2021/07/20/a-prayer-for-the-dining/

Instead of coming out threatening the members of his organization, maybe he or his organization should have studied the law, and questioned the ‘guidelines’ with Bord Failte (Government Statutory Body by the way). Not a very good representative then?
Or maybe he did study it, and was in agreement?

The pet AG didn’t bat an eyelid either – until the under-investigation-for-leaking Varadkar found himself at the centre of another scandal, along with the gathered cronies.

I can’t believe it’s already a year since that massive explosion in Beirut, Lebanon. Saw a documentary about it the other day. It’s truly a failed state. They had 2 terms of leadership who were warned that the port warehouses were in danger of exploding and they did nothing! It’s just crazy. They should all be investigated and possibly arrested.

      1. Junkface

Nope. It was an old stock of imported explosives from Georgia and some related equipment shipped from an African country, I think it was Mozambique or Tanzania. Years of political corruption was the key factor.

          1. Junkface

They are different incidents. Those articles do not say that Israel blew up Beirut port last year in one of the biggest explosions ever in the middle east. It was well known in Lebanon Gov’t that the warehouse was a ticking time bomb due to a massive stock of explosives stored close to a stock of fireworks.

Israel’s military are heavy handed and aggressive in the region, but they are not the culprit here.

And it’s just been reported today that Hezbollah have fired missiles at Israel today from Lebanon. So now Israeli fighter jets are bombing those missile sites in Lebanon.

          2. Man On Fire

“They are different incidents. Those articles do not say that Israel blew up Beirut port last year in one of the biggest explosions ever in the middle east.”

The article is meant to highlight that a certain country has form in bullying and attacking Lebanon.

” It was well known in Lebanon Gov’t that the warehouse was a ticking time bomb due to a massive stock of explosives stored close to a stock of fireworks. ”

            Spin for warnings from Israel.

Who made the documentary you watched, BBC?

          3. ce

“The article is meant to highlight that a certain country”

Should be countries – Israel, Syria, and Turkey…

          4. Junkface

“The article is meant to highlight that a certain country has form in bullying and attacking Lebanon.”

You’re way off @ManOnFire. There has been so many conflicts between Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Gaza etc, that you have to be particular about which one you are referring to. There is proof and investigative video covering what happened in the Beirut port explosion. Here is the doc:
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgvqNz4J_2k&ab_channel=DWDocumentary

You provided proof of nothing, just speculation.

…the zionists are bombing Lebanon as we speak…no maybes or mights…with total impunity because there will be no outcry…they have a vested interest in precipitating turmoil in the Middle East…

          7. Man On Fire

And how exactly have I made it worse?

Bearing in mind I’m appealing for open mindedness and critical thinking throughout this discussion.

I am so sick of making lunches. Even thinking of what to buy in the supermarket. I’m heading back to the office building next week. Normal lunchtimes will resume! I’m lucky my workplace is in an area with lots of world cuisine available, and good lunch deals.

Homeworkers have gone one of two ways I expect. Those who cooked and ate what I call good food- meaning nutritious- and those who stuffed their gobs with all sorts of rubbish, out of boredom.

Personally I would be in the first group and have fallen in love with oats. Oats with grated raw carrots and natural yogurt baked as bread is my staple now. Gluten free too.

Substitute chickpea water for yogurt as a binder, and you have a vegan alternative.

The destruction of forest due to wildfires is a global phenomenon in countries with different climatic conditions and types of vegetation. Is, and always has been.
Pine forests (for instance) need sporadic fires in order for seeds to be released from cones and to sprout as well.
Not all is ‘climate change’. Greece and the northern Mediterranean have always had massive forest fires. It was calculated that over a five year period in the 70s/80s, forestry equivalent to the size of Belgium had been destroyed due to fires.

    1. Nigel

‘Half of all attribution studies focus on heatwaves, according to Mitchell. Heatwaves are relatively easy to attribute because they are “very certain and the first response to climate change” and cover a large area, which makes it easier for climate models to pick up, said Mitchell.’

      https://www.climatechangenews.com/2021/08/04/timeline-science-linking-climate-change-extreme-weather-took-off/

‘Last month was worst July for wildfires on record, say scientists’

‘Last week, the heat intensity from fires in Turkey was four times higher than the previous daily national record. So far this year, 128,000 hectares (316,000 acres) have burned – eight times higher than the average, according to the European Forest Fire Information System.’

‘The number of large fires in Europe continues to increase and vulnerable area are widening, according to the EU’s Disaster Risk Management Unit. “The area affected by fires is expanding in Europe, no longer limited to the Mediterranean countries,” said Jesús San-Miguel-Ayanz, a scientist with the unit. Underscoring this trend, in Finland there has also been a sharp rise in wildfires this summer.’

      https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/06/last-month-worst-july-wildfires-since-2003?CMP=twt_a-environment_b-gdneco

‘Europe sets on fire each summer, especially around the Mediterranean. On average, about 1500 square miles of the E.U. burn every year. But last year fires burned nearly three times that much, killing 66 people in Portugal and Spain and stretching the firefighting efforts and budgets thin across the continent. “In 2018, we are observing an expansion of the areas that are at risk, with fires occurring in countries where wildfires were not so common in the past,” says Jesús San-Miguel, a researcher at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.’

More new revelations on the lab leak theory and covid 19 origins going back to Sept 2019 in Wuhan, China. The USA also decided to setup up a financial reward system for Chinese lab workers turned whistleblowers, although I’m not sure how that would be managed without the CCP finding out first and kidnapping whistleblowers. Its getting a lot more interesting.
