Um.

Ceallachain tweetz;

My friend was trying to book tickets into the movies, and this (above) appeared on screen, is Vue cinema only allowing people who are vaccinated onto their premises? And who only have a vaccine passport?

Anyone?

    Their house, their rules.
No shirt, no shoes, no shot, no service.

Now wait for the conspiraloons to boycott somewhere they’re not allowed into anyway!

    1. Cui Bono?

You’ve so much hate towards your fellow humans Daisy.

and all we want is equality, informed consent, and an open and honest debate.

There’s too many doctors and scientists speaking out now to ignore the scientific data.

        1. Cui Bono?

You obviously don’t realise but there’s ivermectin for humans and then a different ivermectin for horses.

They are not the same thing.

          And I never took either.

    I’m being oppressed!

Actually though, some cinemas used to do over-18 screenings of non-18 rated shows. It was an extra couple of quid and well worth it so that the worst behaved co-hort in any movie were gone.

I’d happily just pay an extra 2 quid to be in a no-kids no-antivaxxer screening.

You could reserve one cinema a day for the great unwashed, I mean unvaccinated.

      1. ProfessorMark

Lol. Death Knell! If thats the case then why are all our restaurants not shut?? Last weekend I went west and all were wedged with covid passsports the norm at every door.

      2. SOQ

You’d think by the trolls on here that this stupidity was actually popular- its not of course, it is deeply unpopular.

          1. SOQ

Most people have enough decency to see that discrimination is wrong.

Now in Israel, two and three jabs are only going to be valid for six months- just think about that for a minute.

          1. george

“wipe the smug away”?! Cop on to yourself and learn the meaning of discrimination while you’re at it. And of course it is enforceable.

  3. freewheeling

These are UK cinema chains, where covid passports are now mandatory. Their website messaging doesn’t seem to be taking account of Irish cinemas’ particular situation, where current screening limits can remain in place without covid passports, so none needed if <50 at a screening (until Oct 22).

and for those with a medical exemption, or breastfeeding, just fupp them ? Isn’t a mask enough to go to a supermarket ?

  4. ProfessorMark

In the recent past I was all for commonsense and ensuring that personal health data was not used to discriminate or bar entry to restaurants etc. Now, given the anti vax sentiments here and the continual tripe being served as facts to back up no vax etc I’m fully delighted to see these covid cert only activities happening.
I’m all for it as it pretty much guarantees a pleasant experience be it eating, drinking or watching a film.

On July 17, my baby passed away. I had been breastfeeding my 6 week old baby at the time that I received the first Pfizer vaccine on June 4, 2021. He became very sick with a high fever about 2 weeks after I got the first Pfizer vaccine on June 21. He was treated for 2 weeks with IV antibiotics for a supposed bacterial infection. However, they never found any specific bacteria, and called his diagnosis culture-negative sepsis. At the end of his hospital stay he tested positive for rhinovirus. After the 14 day course of antibiotics, he was home for one week, but exhibited strange symptoms (e.g. swollen eyelid, strange rashes, vomiting). I took him back to the hospital on July 15, where he presented with what they called an atypical Kawasaki disease. He passed away shortly thereafter from clots in his severely inflamed arteries. I am curious if the spike protein could have gone through the breast milk and caused an inflammatory response in my child. They say Kawasaki disease presents very similarly to the Multi-System Inflammatory Syndrome in children that they are seeing in post Covid infections. (My baby also had unusual birth circumstances, as he was born at 37 weeks, triggered by a maternal appendicitis.) However, if they know that antibodies go through the breastmilk as a good thing, then why wouldn”t the spike protein also go through the breastmilk and potentially cause problems.

The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), founded under the name Dissatisfied Parents Together (DPT) in 1982, is an American 501organization that has been widely criticized as a leading source of fearmongering and misinformation about vaccines.

        1. hmmm

          I see how this works.

“NPHET is an Irish QUANGO that has been widely criticized as a leading source of fearmongering and misinformation about pandemics, viruses, vaccines, masks and lockdowns..”

          Did I do it right?

I don’t care that whiny, unvaxxed conspiraloons can’t watch the latest Marvel blockbuster on a mega screen.

Now hush up and eat your horse wormer, Kletus.

          1. SOQ

As I said before- it takes a certain type of ‘special’ to spend so much time and energy trying to get under other people’s skins.

  5. Micko

Judging by the hateful spiteful comments on here and other sites, directed at the unvaccinated.

I’m starting to wonder if the Covid passports weren’t brought in to protect the vaccinated.

They were brought in to protect the unvaccinated from a lynching BY the vaccinated.

There’s a real hatred from some of you guys for the unvax’d.

I wonder what you could be coerced into doing next.

    1. ProfessorMark

      @Micko
Its pretty simple. Theres no hatred just a sense of despair that people who will not get vaccinated usually do so for the most spurious of reasons: health integrity, unwillingness to participate in efforts to protect the vulnerable, willingness to let this drag on when it could be considerably shortened, don’t get me started on the side effects stuff, Bill Gates, 5G, Klaus Schwab nonsense & tinfoil hat stuff…
There is no coercion – we all choose to get the vaccine, many of us were understandably nervous about doing so. However….the fact remains that the vaccine reduces serious illness and allows society, education, healthcare & business to re-open. Sure, I accept its not popular for everyone and I also accept that the vaccine does not protect against transmission but it is better than being locked down all the time.
However much you like to paint the vaccinated as sheep you will find most of us are active participants in our communities who have joined others in trying to stop infection. If you choose to not get vaccinated then you have to accept limitations to your ability to access travel, eating out etc. Just because you have rights does not mean you can exercise them without consideration of others.

Interestingly in several activities I am involved in I am seeing both professionally & socially people who are unvaccinated being excluded in a roundabout way just due to being really tiresome and misinformed. Its probably gonig to be career limiting to be unvaccinated as time goes on.

      1. hmmm

The pandemic is the conspiracy with the adherents eschewing tinfoil hats for mysterious magical experimental injections that don’t stop infection.

How many magical booster shots will they comply with? 4, 6, 8? How many per year?

How can the vaccine be a “choice” when choosing not to have the vaccine is cue for vilification and exclusion?

What happened to “my body, my choice”?

What happened to equal before the law?

Why do the un-vaccinated wish the best for the vaccinated but the vaccinated only heap scorn and bile on the un-vaccinated.

Why does “Professor” Mark express such glee at his “choice” being rewarded by the exclusion of the non-believers?

        Cult much?

        #VAX4EVA

        1. jungleman

What happened to “my body, my choice”?

The irony of the very types who were anti-choice trying to hijack this phrase for their alt-right views.

      2. Micko

We had a lad on Broadsheet the other day wishing death for Joe Rogan.

Twitter is even more full of em.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve absolutely no belief that a single one of them would do anything.

        But a mob…?

Whoweee… all bets are off. ;)

      3. Cui Bono?

        @ProfessorMark
It’s funny how you conflate “Bill Gates, 5G, Klaus Schwab nonsense & tinfoil hat stuff” as if it’s all the same thing. It just shows your complete ignorance.

There’s lots of silly conspiracy theories but there is also very real documented facts, conspiracy and massive conflicts of interest with the open pursuit of published agendas. By conflating it all into one pile of nonsense, you ignore real truths.

And as for the vaccine, statistically according to the HSE document given out at my doctors clinic, I as a healthy almost middle aged man am more at risk from harmful side affects from the vaccine, than I am from covid. Add that to the fact that the vax doesn’t stop transmission and effectiveness dwindling over time, there is no logical reason to take it.

        1. ProfessorMark

          @CuiBono
I really hope you don’t truthfuly believe any of what you just wrote, particularly around vaccine risk vs age….

        2. Cian

We’ve had a load of measures in place since April. That is why the death rate is so low.

Take Florida, for example, there are usually about 200 weekly deaths in the 25-44 year age group. For all of 2021 they are running at over 250 per week; second week in August saw a jump to 407! Twice as many people died that week than expected.

So far in 2021 they have had over 3,000 excess deaths in the 25-44 age group (have had 9,000 deaths, expecting 6,000).

Florida population is a little over 4 times larger than Ireland, but older – so in Irish terms is would be about 600-750 additional deaths in the 25-44 age group for the first 8 months of the year. For comparison there were a total of 972 deaths in this age group in all of 2018.

          https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm

    2. george

Of course, because if vaccine status wasn’t being checked everyone would somehow know who wasn’t vaccinated. Very smart.

    3. Daisy Chainsaw

Oh dear, conspiraloons are back to appropriating violent, segregationist, Deep South analogies again.

Being denied access to a private venue is EXACTLY THE SAME!!!1!!eleventy!! as the threat of being hanged from a nearby tree for being black..

And the next ratlicker rally will have people calling on the attendees to stamp on the heads of elected officials again.

        1. Daisy Chainsaw

I’ve been to my local fleapit a couple of times since they reopened. Book online and seats around you are locked out to ensure social distancing. People wear masks until they get to their seats and put them back on once the film is over and we’re all leaving. It’s all terribly civilised and, of course, great to be back watching films on the big screen again.

          1. Man On Fire

They don’t have to wear the mask though, it’s encouraged, not mandated. Just like your redundant covid pass. It’s only for the vulnerable and feable minded.

          2. Nullzero

What did you go to see Daisy? Conspiraloons 2; attack of the ratlickers?

Seriously, you could do with working on your bedside manner. It’s difficult to make a reasonable argument when you insist on insulting all around you.

          3. Daisy Chainsaw

            Try reading MOF.

As previously stated: People wear masks until they get to their seats and put them back on once the film is over and we’re all leaving.

      1. Micko

“ Being denied access to a private venue is EXACTLY THE SAME!!!1!!eleventy!!”

No one said it’s “exactly” the same.

        Just similar.

Remember Sesame St? One of these things are alike but not the same etc.

We’re at Sesame St level stuff now.

        1. ProfessorMark

          @Micko
Its a commercial establishment- a cinema and they are entitled to make or follow regulation as they see fit.

          1. Micko

            It matters to Mark ;-)

            And that’s the point.

Sure he was advocating people not being allowed to shop for food above.

            Headbangers.

    4. SOQ

      @Micko

We both know there is zero evidence that passports reduce spread- but that doesn’t stop the vitriol with which these clowns want to ‘other’ people. That there is no medium let alone long term data is just dismissed, despite the fact that vaccinated people can have a much higher viral load and be far more infectious.

The lack of self awareness is beyond belief at this point.

      1. ProfessorMark

        Your irritation is palpable.
You should see me do first edits on a thesis draft….oh boy.

Sean may have got 600 points in the Leaving Certificate but he certainly can’t articulate an argument….

I’m currently on holiday in France, so far I’ve seen no sign of the protests against the ‘passeport sanitaire’ that were posted here just over a week ago. What I have seen is people queuing to get into restaurants that they need them to get into and compliance with mask wearing – which is still obligatory even outdoors in the part of France I’m visiting.
Reading posts on this site made me think that there was a lot of anti-vaxx and anti-mask sentiment in Ireland but now that I see France was misrepresented, I’m wondering if Ireland has been too. Anyone?

    1. Micko

“people queuing to get into restaurants that they need them to get into and compliance with mask wearing – which is still obligatory even outdoors”

      Sounds like a great holiday…

    2. ProfessorMark

H, I think you are correct. Its really a tiny minority. Most people will wear masks & get vaccinated as it is the correct thing to do plus their lives are curtailed if not. Most people who oppose are doing so because of reflexive contrarianism not because of any provable factual issue with masks or vaccines.

I’m heading to France in October and looking forward. French friends tell me much the same as you recount – the initial flurry of ‘we will fight this to the death’ followed by a trip to be vaccinated. The figures in France show that its much stricter there with obligatory mask wearing outside in crowded areas.

      1. Cian

The anti-pass movement appears to be strongest in the south of the country, where there are also the lowest rates of vaccination. The protests have united the far right and hard left as well as a wide number of people in between including conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxxers, the gilets jaunes and those politically opposed to Macron and centrist government.

      2. Micko

The “I havn’t seen any protests” argument is up there with the “I don’t know anyone who’s died from Covid” bit

        Hilarious…

        1. H

Sadly, I do know people – plural, who have died from Covid and the son of one recounts how it is made worse by Covid deniers and ant-vaxxers.

It is a great holiday by the way, thanks. I don’t mind a short wait to get into a restaurant if the food is good :-)

          1. Micko

            Yup, so do I

I even know of someone who died there last week – he wasn’t vaccinated.

He was in his late 60’s and very silly not to get vaccinated.

See, I’m not anti-vax. I even paid for my kid to get the meningitis jab – both jabs. Wasn’t bloody cheap either… ;-)

I just don’t think we should give these new vaccines to children and young people as there is NO benefit to THEM.

And the numbers support this. Only 7 people under 25 years of age have died in Ireland.

And, if it’s for the “greater good of society” we’re giving it to them?

            Then screw society!

      3. H

This article is almost a month old, I think whoever suggested that there was an initial kickback which has now passed is probably right

    1. Cian

Or not. “To obtain a health pass, individuals must be fully vaccinated, have a recent negative Covid-19 test or have had the coronavirus in the past.”

      vaccination isn’t the only route.

  7. Nullzero

Ultimately if you’re the only business in your industry that’s imposing a requirement like this there’s a reasonable chance that on the whole you may see a reduction in your overall business compared to your competitors.

Some will think it’s fantastic, most will just see it as an annoyance.

It’s their business what they impose on their customers but it feels like something nobody was asking for to begin with.
