The American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland has told Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe (above) to accept  a global corporation tax rate of “at least” 15 per cent

American companies say
That revenue should make them pay
A tiny bit more
If a deal is in store
And not try to go our own way

there can’t be any justification in hanging on to a 12.5% corpo tax rate anymore. this isn’t 1995, we’re all working our holes off for sod all – it’s time the multis coughed up a few quid.

Do they not already provide about 40% of the country’s tax take? Having said that, I agree with signing up to this deal and increasing to the 15% rate – as long as it can’t be arbitrarily increased subsequently.

Why is it that an individuals income is subject to different rates of tax depending on income, but a corporation pays a flat rate?

Is it not fair that a corporation with profits in the billions should pay proportionately more tax that a corp earnings millions, or 100s of thousands?

Thats an entirely fair and logical idea, that would benefit small local businesses at the expense of large faceless multinationals, and raise government revenue, and so please almost everyone.

But unfortunately it wouldn’t please the large faceless multinationals, who’s opinions the elected governments in every first world country actually care about.

Whether ye agree with the rate
    Or not

One thing for sure is that the Paddys are getting rightly shafted here
And our home advantage for attracting MNCs will be a goner

    Btw
It’s the capital allowances and other inducements that protect huge profits from exposure to tax in Ireland
Be it 12.5% or the flouted 15%
Is by far the biggest problem with Corporation Tax
