I have a voucher for a restaurant which was given to me pre-Covid as a present for my 50th. It’s valid until 2024.
It is an indoor only restaurant. Being unvaxxed I can’t dine indoors.
Would I be entitled to a refund for the value of the voucher.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

vouchers are usually non-refundable, and if they are the money is refunded to the card used to buy it initially.
i’d re-gift it to someone else if i wasn’t going to use it, personally.
+1
I would think that a voucher is a contract for the provision of goods or services, which would come with a standard set of terms and conditions. If the provider is unable to provide those goods or services- which is the case in this instance- then the purchaser, or gifted person, is due a full refund.
if they previously had an outdoor area and had since closed it, I’d agree with what you’ve said.
The promise was that the goods or services are provided at an agreed chosen date and time of the purchaser.
That they previously had outdoor seating is irrelevant, if they cannot provide such going forward. Even then, the provision of such while raining for example, would not have been acceptable.
Ignorance must be bliss because you sound delighted to be mentally skipping over the restrictions we still have in place with fingers planted firmly in your ears. Have a nice day, enjoy the echo.
I am not skipping over anything- this is basic consumer rights. If the supplier is not able to provide the goods or services as per contact- then a refund is due.
The restaurant might make an exception and refund it alright but in general, no. If I had a voucher for a parachute jump and couldn’t use it due to not being willing to get in the plane, they wouldn’t refund it.
Worth a shot though. A lot of restaurants have been fairly nice with vouchers due to COVID. We were able to change a (specifically marked) ‘dine in meal’ voucher to a takeaway voucher in a place near us.
‘Worth a shot though’. I see what you did there :-)
Completely unintentional, honestly but yeah, why not :)
You are assuming that the reason why the individual has not taken a vaccine is by choice, which is not always the case. A business has no right to enquire or make such a judgement.
Wait till October 22 when you won’t need a vacation passport to get into the restaurant.
I have a feeling that will be extended
We’ll see.
Only if you let them
If you’re 50 and not vaxxed I’d be tempted to let someone else have it. You could well be dead by October.
what an utterly bizarre comment to make. Is this a “sure we could all die at any time” kind of comment or do you actually believe the commenter is at an exceptionally high risk of death by October (just 9 days away) simply due to being 50 and unvaccinated? Lol. People have truly lost their little minds.
:)
Well, considering only 101 people in his age (45-54) group have died from Covid in nearly two years,
I’d say the odds are very much in his favour.
S’not the plague…
Facts here:
https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/surveillance/weeklyreportoncovid-19deathsreportedinireland/
Two years? The first lockdown only happened in March last year. Since then there have been three lockdowns and nearly 90% of the population and his age cohort vaxxed.
I’d like to know how many of those 101 were not vaccinated.
He’d be very much in the firing line as the virus starts hunting out the remaining part of the population which hasn’t been jabbed.
I do hope he doesn’t have any underlying conditions.
Even now, refusing the vaccine is a huge gamble. I hope he gets to eat his burger.
“as the virus starts hunting out the remaining part of the population which hasn’t been jabbed” hahahahaha. The virus does no such thing and is quite happily transmitting through the vaccinated population too. Are you one of these people who thinks the vaccinated are “the immune” as the media keep referring to them?
nearly
I said “nearly” two years…
Anyway ;)
“I’d like to know how many of those 101 were not vaccinated.”
We started vaccinating his age group 40-49 in mid May 2021. By that stage 88 of those 101 were dead – so yes, the majority were NOT vaccinated by that point.
“I do hope he doesn’t have any underlying conditions.”
Of course, and he’d be very foolish to have underlying conditions and not be vaccinated.
“the virus starts hunting out the remaining part of the population which hasn’t been jabbed.”
I dunno, but I don’t think that’s how it works, especially if vaccines are meant to break transmission.
If they don’t break transmission then the jab is really “just for yourself” and everyone’s choice should be respected no matter how foolish or selfish it seems to others. (IMO)
“Even now, refusing the vaccine is a huge gamble”
There’s about 700K people in that age group. 101 have died from Covid over 19 months. That’s 0.014% of that population
I would argue that is NOT a huge gamble.
“I hope he gets to eat his burger.”
Agreed ;)
So Vax Melody- using you own terminology and logic- if 90% of the population is vaccinated and the virus is hunting down people like him, surely it must be doing it via vaccinated people then?
In which case, what is the point of vaccine passports?
I’m old-fashioned.
I tend to follow what my GP says and not some anonymous nutjob on an internent forum with access to Google.
It would be like me asking Bodger for advice on a pain in my chest.
He’d tell me to go to my doctor.
Maybe ask the restaurant?
I’d say they’d let them in, but only if the staff gather around in a warped birthday type ceremony every 15 mins, where the staff circle their table and point at them with mouths wide open like Donald Sutherland in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Seems like a good compromise to me… totally win win.
Get someones Covid passport thing. Let them scan it etc. give them a fake name and fake mobile number. Bingo! you’re in.
It’s all so absurdly time consuming a lot of places don’t really care anymore and frankly it’s that type of shoddy respect for this nonsense that wins my repeat custom.
This.
Onerous rules to be self-enforced is a daft idea.
Whiplash government that abandons all tests because of increasing numbers merits little respect.
PCR tests cost 1/2 billion, many multiples of what antigen tests would have cost, which are EU standard.
Someone made a whack.
‘shoddy respect for this nonsense that wins my repeat custom’. Sensibly pragmatic.
It all depends on the area as there is quite a class element to this whole nonsense but yes, businesses should be thinking about long term optics rather than just doing the government’s dirty work for them.
People who are not vaccinated and their allies will hold if not at least a grudge than a preference a lot longer than those who think that this stupid compliance is a virtue.
There are plenty of businesses who went to the wall for discriminating against gay people, and this will be no different.
……….Or, just get vaccinated and stop being such a melt
ironically, if you are a fat lad, you are the high risk person here, and not the query poster. Even vaccinated, your risk of death is way higher than the mine for example, me being a healthy, fit, unvaccinated and handsome 40 year old.
In other news, Pfizer has recalled their anti-smoking drug Chantix after it was revealed long term ingestion of the drug can lead to, eh, cancer…. due to high levels of cancer-causing agents called nitrosamines in the pills. The drug was FDA approved and this long term effect was not identifed by Pfizer in its trials which has been on the market since 2006. But like, you’re a crazy person if you have any doubts over the safety of fastest vaccines ever created by these same producers and approved by the same regulator with no medium to long term safety data.

Maybe eat the voucher with some Worcester sauce?
Is that a chip on your shoulder or are you just pleased to see me?
