The Boys In The Bubble

at

From top: Republic of Ireland football team; Trinity College immunology professor Cliona O’Farrelly

This morning/afternoon.

Today with Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio One.

Further to vaccine hold-outs among our senior football team…

….Dr Cliona O’Farrelly, of TCD, said:

“These young men would – I think not necessarily all – seem to be in a bubble of misinformation and are hearing stories that there is no real validity to.

“There is a story going around that the vaccine compromises potency and causes erectile dysfunction or infertility, lower sperm count, which there is absolutely no evidence for.

“These young sportspeople are just so aware of health and needing to protect themselves from major danger, and Covid infection, even if it’s mild, can lead to long Covid, and there’s a risk to others.

“I must admit, I was really surprised by this.

I just wonder, do they think they are sort of – men can be like that – invincible, that they’ll be okay, that their immune systems are strong enough to fight the disease, and that it’s not going to have long-term effects.”

      1. Cui Bono?

Time will tell if she is correct. Let’s hope she’s wrong. She was right about vitamin D among other things.

        1. Cian

Yeah, Remember when she said masks don’t stop covid getting through… but do stop oxygen?
And when she was trying to get into the count centre and pushed into the Garda and accused him of rape?

          1. SOQ

In fairness Luke O’Neill said a lot of things- the most recent being that a booster will last 3-5 years. Except, that is already out of date because some people are already on their fourth.

          2. Cian

            @SOQ
always off on a tangent. (look over there)

but I’ll bite; who had a 4th booster? Or are you just lying again?

          3. Cian

            @SOQ
any actual evidence that people in Israel are currently getting their 4th jab?

Or are you telling lies again?

          4. Cui Bono?

No one can be correct all the time but she was right about vitamin D and she was right about masks from what I’ve heard but you are misinterpreting what she said. I don’t think she accused the guard of rape, I think she said it could be seen as a form of assault.

Remember when Luke O Neill said the covid vaccines are “all 100% effective at stopping hospitalisations and death”?

          5. Cian

If children wear masks, they “will never reach their IQ potential, because their brains are starved of oxygen”.

            bonkers!

Cahill believes this is the masterplan of globalist powers as “oxygen-deprived people are easy to manipulate”.

And “if you stop wearing masks this will all be over”? What? masks are root cause? mad as a loon.

          6. Cian

            @SOQ

Can you provide any evidence of countries actively giving a 4th jab?

If not, you are lying. Again.

          7. Cui Bono?

            @Cian
Re: Luke O Neill – the vaccines were never 100% effective pre Delta. The manufacturers never even claimed this. This proven liar did though.

Re: Doloras Cahill, the guards were a disgrace to stop her from entering the building. She never accused him of rape, have you even listened to it? She just explained to him that under the law it can be classified as a form of rape to restrict her from entering. That guard was so unprofessional.

Seriously Cian, you may not like her but at least have the decency to be honest. I’m not her biggest fan BTW.

          8. SOQ

There is a disingenuous play on words going on with some going to great lengths to differentiate between a third shot and a booster shot because the reason is different.

This still means some people are receiving a third shot AND a booster shot, but it allows authorities to claim nobody has received anything more than one booster.

Except- the last it is actually the forth- call it what you will.

Yes there is lying going on- but not by me.

    1. SOQ

Dr O’Farrell’s patronising guff won’t cut it with those boys because if 40% have declined then you can be certain that they have taken expert medical which is of a standard as to be aligned with their profession status and especially, their financial worth.

It would not surprise me if there was a health insurance input into their decisions too.

      “a bubble of misinformation”

Hey bodger, this sounds like a good new name for this website.

  1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

rather sexist comment…”silly men think they are invincible”

      1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I believe the segregation of the sexes in Ireland in education leads to a very dim or uneducated view of the ” other” in general ( that and Irish mammies ruin their sons ;))

        1. Cian

for the record, I was being sarcastic. :-)

          .
But I agree that segregation in school is bonkers (be it by gender/religion/other).

        2. K. Cavan

The idea of dividing children by gender at such a young age, when they have no idea of the differences or the reason for them is very much projection of adult obsessions onto kids.
It’s nowhere near as evil as allowing children, who have no idea what it’s like to be a woman or a man, decide that they need gender reassignment surgery but it’s still quite damaging.

  2. goldenbrown

yeah right whatever, denigrate it all you want Cliona into suppositions about bubbles of misinformation about this or that that the simpleton kids are swallowing

the bottom line is that these lads are pedigree racehorses…..99th percentile athletes

it’s not about any old rope around virility or whatever other voodoo…..simply the likes of these lads won’t take something if there’s even a fraction of a chance that it will cause even so much as a temporary injury to their performance output…maybe have a chat with one of your sports science colleagues

also there’s a LARGE amount of money involved here, Prem clubs are caught in a quandary about what to do and/or they are complicit

there’s only one kind of dis-information going on here luv

      1. SOQ

Interesting how ketamine is becoming such a popular recreational drug and yet, never a word about how it is used for horses eh?

          1. SOQ

Have you heard of this new fangled thing called search engines?

They are all the rage these days I hear.

          2. Tom J

            @Some old queen.
I know what a search engine is.
I also know what a coma is, which is what you will have if you take Ketamine.

        1. K. Cavan

Well, SOQ, we’ve been here before with this story. Anyone who thinks that a medicine that’s effective on other mammals shouldn’t be used by humans is an idiotic goon or one of Leo’s little bugmen or both.
I wish they’d have the courage of their convictions and give up painkillers, antibiotics, everything really, they wouldn’t last long.
Maybe they need to give up food, too, because animals eat it.
          Goons.

          1. Cian

Humans are different than other animals. In fact not all animals are the same. You can’t just swap food/medicines from one species to another.

Simple example: chocolate is toxic for dogs.

    1. K. Cavan

Yes, goldenbrown, she sounds like a bit of an idiot to be honest, speculating as to why these athletes don’t want to risk their careers & plucking an answer out of her arse, basically.

  3. Nullzero

I’m sure the professor will be glad to know that every skanger in a Liverpool top is now vaccinated thanks to Jurgen Klopp having a little hissy fit on the subject recently.

    It’s a funny old game I suppose.

  4. baz

we are talking about soccer ball players, right? the only sphere of their supposed expertise concerns a circumference of 68-70cm and a weight of between 410g – 450g

      1. K. Cavan

I don’t think they’re sad but they’re definitely not overpaid, Rugbyfan. Relative to the amount of money that pro soccer turns over, they’re underpaid compared to other sports.
That’s how supply & demand works.

  5. Sara

We could trust the vast majority of the scientific community and medical profession, or we could trust some young adults who spend their time kicking around a ball for a living. Tough call.

    1. Cui Bono?

You don’t need to trust anyone. You can do a risk/benefit analysis for yourself.

These particular vaccines don’t stop transmission so any potential benefit is only for the individual taking it.

        1. Cui Bono?

They don’t and you will realise this in winter.

Anyway, as I said a risk benefit analysis is all that’s needed. My 29 year old friend did one with his doctor recently based on a HSE document and he is at more risk to bells palsy or myocarditis than a bad illness from covid so they agreed the vaccine wasn’t needed. The doctor didn’t know how to react and looked stunned into realisation.

          1. K. Cavan

Cui Bono, I’m actually looking forward to how Cian blames something, somebody, somewhere when your assertion is proven.
Won’t be long now, the weather’s been fairly mild but Coronavirus season precedes flu season by a good few weeks.
Nothing reduces the likelihood of infection or transmission, both normal vaccines & the gene therapies are designed to help the body deal with infection, not prevent it but Cian believes they’re some sort of science fiction thing, god bless him.

          2. Cui Bono?

            @Cian
Yes, it is the same doctor and friend.

The doctor didn’t know how to react, he just said “fair enough” and looked stunned into the realisation that maybe he was wrong about vaccinating young healthy people.

    2. K. Cavan

Have you spoken to the vast majority of the scientific community, Sara? Or do you trust politicians & the media to adequately represent their views to the sheep, sorry, public?
      The latter, I’d guess.

  6. K. Cavan

I have to admit, I’ve never heard that the gene therapies induce flaccidity. Either I was distracted by the heart attacks, strokes, cancer, nervous system damage and death stuff or that woman just made that up because she’s a bit obsessed with sex.
Maybe the players have heard about how the 25th best tennis player in the world became the 79th best, when he took the gene therapy injections & has decided to retire because he’s in terrible pain when he plays or trains?
Maybe the fact that the injections are the most disastrous treatment in medical history & simply don’t do what it says on the phial?

  7. K. Cavan

Actually, are we sure this so-called Professor O’Farrelly is not just Michael Palin in drag, having a laugh?
Go back to your travel programmes, Michael, we can’t wait to see you doing “Around The World In 800 Days With A Vax Pass”.

  8. George

Since they were teenagers they have been in a macho all-male environment where football was more important than education. They’re basically on a permanent stag do without the booze. They have an older man telling them what to do the whole time like a dad and many aspects of how a club and manager treats its players are infantalising e.g. deciding what you eat; punishing players with fines for misbehaviour outside work; deciding that their partners can’t travel with them etc. They are also been paid huge amounts from an early age and have thousands of people treating them like they’re gods. It is not a recipe for mature, thoughtful young men.

Graeme Le Saux used to get homophobic abuse for reading the Guardian. Isn’t it funny that there only openly one gay person has ever played in the premier league and he came out after retirement? There are only 5 gay professional football players from and country or time period listed on wikipedia. It says a lot about the maturity of these boys who play football for a living and the macho atmosphere within football.

    1. SOQ

What in God’s name has gay rights got to with taking an experiential injection with no long term safety data?

Are you aware of what these guys are actually worth? Every single medical decision they make would have to be ran past their insurers first, because they are such a valuable commodity.

And even on a personal level, why would they risk their entire careers on the prevention of something which is of near zero risk to them in the first place, and doesn’t even prevent transmission?

      1. George

I didn’t say anything about gay rights. I said they spend their lives in an immature macho environment where they are both idolised and infantilised.
