Suck It Up [Updated]

Copper Face Jacks, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2 tonight

Tonight.

Nightclubs and late venues around Ireland should only allow entry to people who have purchased tickets in advance, according to new guidelines published this evening.

They cannot be sold at the door. The same rules will also apply to underage events such as teenage discos.

Ticketing will be required for the purposes of contact tracing for all nightclubs and venues and will be the subject of regulations to be put in place next week.

RTÉ understands the tickets will only be on sale in a digital format and not printed.

A valid Covid-19 Digital Certificate, with photo identification, is required for admission to all venues operating for the purposes of live entertainment and nightclubs.

You should be.

This morning.

Via Irish Times:

‘…The resulting hotchpotch of restrictions and protocols has become the focus of debate in advance of the reopening, with publicans and venue owners complaining of anomalies and inconsistencies in the new rules. The Vintners’ Federation asked earlier this week how it was safe for 200 people to be dancing in a nightclub when eight people cannot throw darts in a pub.

Such questions are understandable, and some of the concerns will have been addressed by the guidelines issued by Government yesterday after consultation with the industry. But to expect that there will be no inconsistenciesthat there will be “equality of treatment” as another industry group put it – rather misses the point.

At many stages in the pandemic, it has been Government policy, based on public health advice, to differentiate between settings depending on the nature of mixing that takes place there and the needs of individual businesses.

The overall aim is to keep opportunities for disease transmission as low as possible without allowing businesses go to the wall. On paper the more sensible precautionary step would be to halt the reopening of indoor gathering spaces entirely.

It may yet come to that if current trends persist, but for now differentiation – and, yes, some inconsistency – is the compromise.’

how it was safe for 200 people to be dancing in a nightclub when eight people cannot throw darts in a pub.

Something to do with flinging sharp pointed metal objects through the air while intoxicated perhaps? Just a guess.

    1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

Auld lads can’t fling sharp pointed objects while intoxicated, but young lads can fling their rounded pointed objects?

  2. E'Matty

They’re opening nightclubs with ridiculous rules which cannot be complied with so when we get the perfectly natural winter surge they can then once again turn around and blame the “rule breaking” people for the rise which was coming anyway. Always blame some section in society.

    1. Kdoc

Why would there be a surge? I thought you guys were saying, more or less, that it was nothing more than the common cold.

      1. E'Matty

Why wouldn’t there be a surge if it’s like the flu or a cold? They all pass through in waves each year, especially during the annual flu and respiratory virus season, which we’ve just entered. Cases were always going to rise at this time and NPHET and the gov knew this and timed their pretend removal of restrictions to perfection to be fair. On fact, that’s why some of us ratlickers even correctly predicted the last two weeks chain of events, whilst you lads all thought the restrictions were going on the 22nd. Ye even sneered and mocked anyone who said the vaccine certs would remain.

        1. Kdoc

I never sneered or laughed at the thought of the vaccine certs remaining; I want then to remain for as long as necessary.

Increases in COVID-19 are unrelated to levels of vaccination

At the country-level, there appears to be no discernable relationship between percentage of population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days (Fig. 1). In fact, the trend line suggests a marginally positive association such that countries with higher percentage of population fully vaccinated have higher COVID-19 cases per 1 million people.

    1. Mr.T

In fairness, higher vaccination probably correlates with lower restrictions on movement, which in turn would increase cases

Vaccination certainly isnt nearly as effective against transmission as pfixer et al claim, but I doubt its actively aiding the spread

      1. SOQ

The main issue is longevity- they are claiming success with the booster, but for how long?

And if someone jumps off this pharma merry-go-round, what state will their immune system be in afterwards?

          1. SOQ

It is not a case of what I think, it is a case of whether people’s immune systems will be dependent on these vaccines, or not.

And the truth is, nobody knows at this point. All we do know is that their efficacy wanes within months.

      2. Chris

It could be aiding the spread by reducing the innate immune response post jab. Most I’ve spoken to were ill after the second jab.

        1. Jon Smoke

How do you do it SOQ and Chris?
Do you sit it a room together all day and when SOQ posts something, you give the nod to Chris and he waits a few minutes and then posts something supporting the first post? Or are you just the one person commenting on your own comments?

Well, they’ve been so long on Lonely Street
Well, they’ll never, they’ll never get back

      3. f_lawless

“I doubt its actively aiding the spread”
There’s experts out there arguing that mass vaccination is doing just that in the longer term. Putting pressure on the virus to evolve into even more transmissible strains that evade the narrow-focused immunity induced from the vaccines.

        1. Nigel

coud be could be could be unless the delta variant is part of it, of course, which came from the virus spreading pre-or-during-vaccine rollout rather than entirely hypothetical variants arising from vaccine pressure which nobody has identified yet except as entirely conjectural.

        2. Cian

Yeah, and this is exactly why was don’t vaccinate against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough (Pertussis), Hib (Haemophilus influenzae b), Polio (Inactivated poliomyelitis). Hepatitis B), Pneumococcal Conjugate, Meningococcal B, Measles Mumps Rubella, Haemophilus influenzae b and Meningococcal C

because autism it will make them angry and they’ll get worse

          1. GiggidyGoo

Apart from the usual divert/distract approach, you’ve now managed to sink further with the use of the word ‘autism’, with your usual line through it for effect, to try project an aura of superiority. Shameful blueshirt.

      4. Zaccone

“In fairness, higher vaccination probably correlates with lower restrictions on movement, which in turn would increase cases”

This is completely incorrect. The states in the US with the higher levels of restrictions are those with high vaccination rates, usually Northern/Coastal Democratic run states.

The Southern, Republican run states, have all had much looser restrictions on movement throughout the last 18 months, and have much lower vaccination rates now.

          OMG, Lilly’s one of those!

          How about fancy dress, Lilly?

Such a pity – was hoping on you, Lilly.

          1. Lilly

It’s all relative. Are you talking about your chances of surviving it or your chances of getting it? Fine if you don’t mind writing off 2+ weeks to a horrible dose – potentially more than once – and running the risk of being left with long Covid.

  5. Rosette of Sirius

While I won’t be anywhere near Coppers, I will be in the City tomorrow night enjoying what I imagine will be a very nice meal with Mickael Viljanen’s crack at the kitchen in Chapter One.

  6. Frank

The tone of that ‘editorial’ is super snotty.
Ignore the ‘inconsistency’ and enjoy the ‘compromise’… or else.
That’s establishment Ireland in a beautifully toxic nutshell.

Paparazzi out in force the weekend so, shooting pandemic porn in time for the Sundays of young & not so young drinking like it’s 1999 again.Photos of debauched hugging-kissing-shifting-riding-fighting-puking-chasing taxis (face-masks optional) ready for the pearl-clutching ‘won’t ye think about the children’ national showdown on Joe Duffy Monday afternoon. Uproar in the Dail Tuesday with Donnelly forced to resign Wednesday, rest-up Thursday & Friday & boom ready to go again for next Halloween weekend..Tickets, tickets anyone looking for tickets…

  8. MickMac

With all the profits made at Coppers in the years pre Covid, I trust the owner has invested in Novaerus or HVAC or similar ventilation measures?

    Or……

  9. Truth.

Tickets and Revenue, problem here, the bags of untraceable cash, problem here, late night meeting to sort this out,new company set up,different tax status?Wake up,Paddies, they are robbing you.

  10. GiggidyGoo

So, where does your local teenage disco sell these ‘digital format’ tickets? Doubtful they have a website, and even if so doubly doubtful it’s e-commerce enabled.
Or your local pub/club for that matter.
    Keystone Kops decisions.
Thing is though that people aren’t taking much heed this time round anyway. They’ve been told that 96% have got the ‘vaccine’, yet they’re being threatened with a lockdown. Will they follow like last time? I don’t think so.
(Apart from the Sheeple ‘r Us folk who’ll lap up anything the likes of Luke O’Neill says)

  11. Verbatim

What Garda would show up with that written on his back to get into Coppers, and wearing his cap?
Maybe he thinks he will get more interested ladies, is that still a thing?
