Defending some of the worst human rights abusers on the planet. Still running a concentration camp for Uighur Muslims in west China. Sound.

…how come when a secular country like China take action against religious fundamentalists it’s a human rights abuse yet when someone like Macron does the same in France he is hailed?

Jean-Paul Sartre expressed admiration for Mao Tse Tung, so that makes Mick Wal Tsung an existentialist philosopher.

    What an absolute idiot.

I had a longer reply typed out but just deleted it as the first four words above are enough.

He’s an absolute idiot and a disgrace. He cares little for the ordinary people who suffer at the hands of the CCP.

America are bad doesn’t equate to China are good.

This is the type of cognitive dissonance you get into when you let your rigid belief systems rule your ability to rationalise things based on evidence.

    1. Shitferbrains

America is bad is the starting point for every conspiracy nutcase on the planet so it’s hardly suprising that it’s pretty much all downhill from there. Wallace is an Assadist so ” um ” isn’t really neccessary.

    “Minister Simon Coveney (FG):
‘Ireland, like all EU Member States and the EU itself, adheres to the One China policy and does not recognise Taiwan as a State.’
    *no reaction*
    Mick Wallace MEP:
‘I adhere to the One China policy and do not recognise Taiwan as a State.’
    *OUTRAGE*”

    Ah jezus lads!

Mick Wallace is a genuine contrarian.
Thats all it is – if political landscape was shifting the other way to recognise Taiwan as Chinese he would be backing the opposite.

He did great work as a TD. Supporting whistle-blowers when very few others did. It is really disappointing, what he seems to have become. Clare Daly was also a brilliant representative for Dublin Fingal, especially for those who needed representation the most. It has been a really disappointing turnaround. I really can’t understand it.

      1. Zaccone

        +1

He had issues as a TD but he genuinely did seem to do some good work that benefited the country.

As an MEP hes turned into an actual nutjob. Toeing the Chinese government’s line this way is pretty much the definition of a useful idiot.

        1. SOQ

What exactly have Mick Wallace, Clare Daly and Luke Ming Flanagan brought back to this Island? Apart from a very nice salary-generous expenses- and personal pension of course.

I don’t interpret the above tweet as taking a moral standpoint on Chinese control of Taiwan. He’s highlighting the fact that Western US-led imperialism is undermining the credibility of the UN as an institution and highlighting the hypocrisy of the EU in aligning itself with the interests of US imperialists

But if only he’d also put the focus on the actions of the transnational oligarchical class (which Chinese elites are aligned with along shared strategic interests) in their attempt to impose this tech-totalitarian system at a global level.

      1. Zaccone

Saying “Taiwan is part of #China ” is taking a very clear moral standpoint on Chinese control of Taiwan.

And its not the moral standpoint that the democracy of Taiwan, and its free and independent people, should be allowed self-determination that you would expect from any reasonable human being.
