Take The Blue Pill

at

This morning.

Via Associated Press:

Pfizer Inc. said Friday that its experimental antiviral pill for COVID-19 cut rates of hospitalization and death by nearly 90% in high-risk adults, as the drugmaker joins the race to bring the first easy-to-use medication against the coronavirus to the U.S. market.

Currently all COVID-19 treatments used in the U.S. require an IV or injection. Competitor Merck’s COVID-19 pill is already under review at the Food and Drug Administration after showing strong initial results, and on Thursday the United Kingdom became the first country to OK it.

Pfizer said it will ask the FDA and international regulators to authorize its pill as soon as possible, after independent experts recommended halting the company’s study based on the strength of its results. Once Pfizer applies, the FDA could make a decision within weeks or months.

Soma, anyone?

Indeed- despite all the papers and studies saying so.

And yet this is to be rushed through at breakneck speed (again).

          1. Cian

            Misinformation.

All the papers that showed ivermectin to be any way effective have been withdrawn or shown to be fraudulent.

Note: I also don’t know if this new drug is any good either – time will tell.

          2. Chris

No Cian, there were three papers removed. There are still seventy that put it’s effectiveness at 69% – 80%.

        2. K. Cavan

It’s not an “anti-parasite drug” george. You don’t make a dumbass statement true by repeating it, you just display your own ignorance. Ivermectin is a molecule derived from Avermectin, found so far only in samples of soil from certain parts of Japan. Having derived the molecule, scientists set about seeing what it might do & the results were among the most spectacular ever seen. According to the WHO it is one of three “miracle” medicinal substances on this planet & Ivermectin has already almost eliminated some of the most appalling infectious diseases in Africa & is likely to be just one many of the formulations which can be derived from Avermectin.
Just because you read something in a tabloid newspaper or on the internet, doesn’t mean it’s true, it just means idiots will repeat it, pretending that they know what they’re talking about.

    This can’t be right?
Aren’t Pfizer determined to ENSHACKLE our immune systems to an eternal regime of UNTESTED vaccines?
Why would they develop anti-viral pills?

Isn’t that why big Pharma created the HOAXDEMIC in the first place? That and the MAGNETIC arm-robots?

Is it those damn SATANISTS again!!

    1. Micko

Yes. I’m sure they’ll give the drug away for pennies.

Jeez, when did big pharma and business become the good guys

      Here’s a list of the top 20 biggest times the pharma industry had to settle with the US for things like;

      Off-label promotion,
      failure to disclose safety data.
      paying kickbacks to physicians,
making false and misleading statements about the safety of their products
      And more!

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_pharmaceutical_settlements

      1. Nilbert

        Well done you!

I suppose it would be impossible to find 20 positive things that pharmaceutical science has ever produced.

        1. Mr.T

          pharmaceutical science != pharmaceutical industry

The industry exists solely to profit, not out of altruism. Certain individuals within the industry might want to do good, but the corporate structure only has self-preservation & profit in mind.

        2. Micko

          “ 20 positive things”

          20?

There’s millions!! Medical and pharmaceutical science and innovation is amazing. We’ve ALL been recipients of bloody miracles in our lifetimes.

It’s when profit is the main motive over people’s well being, I think there’s an issue.

It’s not the people and innovators – it’s the system and the business that’s the problem.

          1. Nilbert

But its the same whining response to any piece of good news, that fills the comment section in here every day.

So, today two anti-viral therapies are announced. A massive breakthrough that could see the transition of this pandemic to endemic phase, and will inevitably save many lives and reduce harm enormously, especially for unvaccinated people.

But the response here is ‘but what about all the unrelated negative things associated with BIG PHARMA man’, like some sort of crusading edgy teen, who MUST BE HEARD.
We are all aware of these shortcomings. But is it necessary to blare it out at every possible opportunity? Its just a constant drone of reactionary nonsense on here.

          2. Ghost of Yep

Nilbert, you’re on here complaining about people complaining on a site you’re constantly complaining about and all you ever do is…. Complain.

            Get over yourself ffs

EDIT: in fairness…. I just look for the odd row.

            You do you.

          3. Micko

But Nilbert, I was replying to your initial comment slagging off people who think differently to you.

But look. I hear where you’re coming from too.

And none of us are completely innocent in winding up the “other side” here.

I think everyone is jaded and confused at the uncertainty that we all seem to be living in.

Maybe we should all just cut each other some slack.

            Fair?

        3. K. Cavan

          https://www.broadsheet.ie/contact/
Although the vast bulk of fatal infecious pathogens were eliminated by clean water & sewage systems, not drugs, pharmaceuticals have helped lessen the effects of Chronic illnesses quite a bit but probably a lot less than you seem to think, as 20 could actually be a stretch, depending on your definition of positive.

  2. Gavin

Both Merck and Pfizer have a history of improper and dangerous business practices, I wouldn’t be in any rush to be the first to take their groundbreaking pills.

    1. SOQ

My guess is the vaccine game is up. Whether that be because they don’t work or because of a wave of injuries coming down the line remains to be seen.

      1. Cian

        hedging your bets?
you were saying earlier that we were going down the road of a 6-month booster; now you are saying vaccines are game over. You can claim to be right either way!

        1. SOQ

That was before I was aware of these pills and as pointed out by Janet- boosters are going to be a very hard sell.

          1. Micko

How dare you update your opinion when presented with new information SOQ!

That doesn’t fit in with the old conspiracy nut profile at all. ;-)

    1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

maybe they come in ” have some manners flavor ”
what’s with you these days Daisy, you have been here a long time, this year your comments are pretty mean.

      1. Daisy Chainsaw

This year has seen some utterly stupid posts about 5G and magnets in relation to covid vaccines which has lead to some top notch tinfoil hattery from some quarters. If you see yourself in some of those posts and consider them “mean”, maybe you need to look at yourself first?

        1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I have never commented on either, I don’t see the need to abuse people who sound worried or frightened though, if you really cared about changing minds why put people on the defense ?
Ah look I just always liked your comments before, I guess this year has seen a lot of people loose the rag, suffer stress and anxiety, it’s a good thing to keep in mind, people aren’t themselves.

          1. scottser

i was at billy bragg last night. he put on a great show, and went on about the politics of empathy. it costs nothing to wear a mask, wash your hands etc. and we do so as a visible sign of our empathy to others. most of us got the vaccine out of consideration for others and as you said on here a while ago, our ability to survive as a species depends on our ability to collaborate, and collaboration requires empathy.
now, you can see all these forces that work to undermine our empathy; not only the conspiracy nuts who won’t comply with protocols set out by the government but also the government themselves, who have lied and fudged their way through the pandemic and doubled-down on the vaccine as the only game in town. they have played this as a political game instead, absolutely devoid of empathy.
i can’t honestly remember an issue where ‘the right thing to do’ was so bloody obvious, yet the narratives are so polar opposite that neither side gets it right.
it’s genuinely bizarre, especially on here nowadays.

          2. Micko

“ it costs nothing to wear a mask”

            I disagree.

It’s a constant reminder of fear and compliance and a tool for the government to divide us.

It should never have been mandated.

And I’m also worried they will never go away.

The ol empathy bit is good though.

          3. Oro

More like its a reminder that we’re in the middle of a public health emergency caused by an airborne disease.

You’re as dramatic! There’s no reason to think masks will never go away, there’s precedence for pandemics with public health measures such as this, why don’t you look to history. My bet is 2-2.5years all in, there’s the drug treatment been announced today. The only reason I can think that you’d say something like that (beyond ignorance) is that you’re basing so much of your current lifestyle on whinging about every aspect of the whole thing that you’re worried about it finishing up. Honestly you’re so devoid of common sense with anything to do with this.

            Oh and just for you:

“of 187 hospitals in the United States found that, among more than 7,000 COVID-19–like illness hospitalizations whose prior infection or vaccination occurred 90–179 days beforehand, there was a 5.5 times higher odds of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 among previously infected patients than among fully vaccinated patients [80]. This study included data on persons more recently infected and/or vaccinated than the studies in the systematic review, though the authors noted one limitation of the design was the potential of missing testing that may have occurred outside of the healthcare network.”

            https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/science-briefs/vaccine-induced-immunity.html

          4. Micko

            “You’re as dramatic”

            That’s cool Oro

I think the same of you when you go on about being worried about a disease that has a 99.7% survival rate.

Good to know ere both drama queens ;)

          5. Oro

If it had a 99.7% survival rate and was not very infectious then nobody would have much cause to be worried, unfortunately it’s extremely infectious. So that is the reason that there is cause to be worried. 3 out of 1000 will die. So if millions upon millions of people get it…you can see where I’m going with this.

          6. Micko

“3 out of 1000 will die:

            Correction Oro

1000 out of 1000 will die.

“No one here gets out alive…”

  3. Gavin

The inability of some people on here to make or refute a point and engage in discussion is just laughable.

    1. K. Cavan

There are reasons for that, Gavin. This is, whether you take the side of Capitalist Globalism or Humanity, a matter of Life & Death. The majority of Vaxxists do not engage with Science, except when it’s from the telly, they alone introduced the abuse, the childish name-calling & line after line of fallacious argument.
My patience with their behaviour is long-gone, I detest them & believe they deserve whatever abuse they get & more. They set the tone, it will not be changing, any time soon.

  4. Chris

“Paxlovid” is a 3CL protease inhibitor, a type of antiviral medication that has been used against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.’

    Umm….

  5. K. Cavan

I wonder is that the same 90% that was alleged to enumerate the efficacy & safety of the Fake Vaccines?
    I suspect so.
We already have several hugely successful drugs to fight viral infections, all proven astonishingly safe & very effective.
If a Pharma company could’ve produced another safe chemical compound that they could patent & earn billions from, that would protect us from 40% of all common colds & that was capable of passing the stringent safety tests that medicines used to be put through, we’d already know about it.
Luckily for Big Pharma, the former tests & standards have all been abandoned & they are free to experiment on the population, now that human life has become not just cheap but worthless, given the popularity of the Elites’ eugenics program to cull the population of useless eaters.
No doubt these fantastic, miracle pills will kill & injure multitudes, since that’s what untested drugs do & they will have to be forced on the ungrateful millions.
Any day now, Smith & Wesson will announce the release of their new “Anti-Covid” bullets, just shoot one of those little beauties into the roof of your mouth & say goodbye to Covid forever. Bill Gates will dance a little jig.
The Death Pills should be able to kill at a fraction of the cost of the killer injections.

    1. Chris

See my post above, the pills will be for those that have taken the ‘vaccines’ – they’ll probably claim the resultant illnesses as Long Covid, and these pills to be the solution.

They’re protease inhibitors, the same drugs they use in HIV treatment. Which makes sense if your T-cells have been damaged and you’re unable to mount a successful natural immune response to infection.

      1. K. Cavan

If your innate immune system is not functioning, which I suspect will be the result, a few more boosters down the line, you are going to die, very soon & very, very horribly. I can see euthanasia being the only response, as hospitals can’t just be allowed fill up with incurable vaccine-damaged patients waiting to die.
“Super-colds” are the first sign of this emerging catastrophe, there simply are no such infections, they do not exist but primed immune systems will make an ordinary Coronavirus or even Rhinovirus appear to be a super-cold.
        Death is coming for breakfast…

  6. SOQ

Just a point here broadsheet but a person now deceased has been repeatedly referenced on this site, even on topics of little relevance- as above.

I would just like to say that I find the use of this person’s name- or any deceased person’s name- to score tacky political points, to be extremely distasteful. It would also be very hurtful to any family member who happen to stumble upon such.

We should be better than that.

    1. K. Cavan

Luckily, SOQ, the majority of us are better than that & have no need to take any responsibility for the damaged, demented one.

    2. Oro

Right – and your recent (since deleted) anecdote about a private citizens’ sex habits that directly mentioned their full name and job description was what….extremely tasteful?

Maybe take your own words to heart.

        1. Oro

Oh now don’t play coy SOQ, own your own nastiness. It was a now deleted comment of yours about a luas driver with some extremely personal information mentioned about him and his private sex habits. Alongside his full name. I looked it up to see if it was a real person and there’s a LinkedIn profile that matched the name to the job so it wasn’t even altered. Terrible behaviour on a site like this where peoples privacy is assumed to be respected unless they themselves choose otherwise.

          1. Oro

It was on this thread linked below. You can see your comment about luas workers, and my unedited response to your comment which was edited by the mods. Ask one of them for more info if you can’t remember / are pretending not to remember it, but what was deleted was a comment that went like this “******* ****** likes being rimmed” where the guys name was behind asterisks and then you also clarified his job, which was related to your luas comment.

And then you have the gall to come on and make a big show of someone’s private name being used inappropriately in a way not of their choosing in the comments! And say ‘we should be better than that’!! The audacity, you’re desperate. And I think it’s gross of you to pretend not to know what I’m talking about, but why am I surprised.
