Not Getting IT

Londis in Dublin City University has joined a campus-wide boycott of The Irish Times

This afternoon.

Londis, DCU, Glasnevin, Dublin.

‘Karl Popper’ writes:

‘This is going to sound extraordinary, unbelievable even, but I went to buy a newspaper in the Londis the other day on the DCU Glasnevin campus only to learn that there is a campus-wide “boycott” of the Irish Times over their alleged “transphobic editorial policy”. The commercial companies on campus obviously kowtowed to a student union motion.

‘The country’s de facto paper of record is de facto banned in one of the main higher learning centres, itself home to the leading journalism school. I imagine in a ‘history of journalism’ lecture there they would teach about freedom of the important of press under authoritarian regimes. Well they have a contemporaneous example in their midst. How embarrassing.’

Anyone?

    Whey hey! Proper order.

The letters page has been a free-for-all platform for TERFs. Roisin Ingle’s support of the appalling TERF Suzanne Moore reveals a lot.

    Whistle. Dog. Here they come!

Look another person trying to erase women on the side of the autogynephiliacs.
      Well done!
I don’t buy the Irish Times for many reasons but to ban it on a University Campus is laughable. Deranged stuff.

    1. Cian

You are free to buy the Sun in Liverpool, even if some shops refuse to sell it..
Just because your average Liverpuddlian will not buy it is a different story.

  2. Fergalito

Well i wouldn’t care about a boycott if it was available to buy in the Londis but as it’s not available on campus then you cannot boycott something you haven’t got access to (on campus).

One cannot read the Guardian without reading The Daily Express otherwise you’re spoon-feeding yourself with information that fits your own narrow world-view and agenda. You’d also be a bit of a narcissist.

This is The New Left – insane totalitarianism and identitarianism. YOU WILL AGREE OR BE CANCELLED. Gender Voodoo is taking over every discipline as a recent article here on Broadsheet demonstrates.

    https://www.broadsheet.ie/2021/11/18/stifling-academic-freedom/

The Irish Times is hardly a basttion of gender critical viewpoint – not even one article on the critical side to every 50 on the cult’s side. But the cult is implacable. You may not utter one single syllable of questioning or thought that isn’t 100% the pre-approved catehcism. When they say ‘No Debate’, they really mean it – and this is how far they intend to take it. Such people must never be allowed near the levers of power.

    1. Bitnboxy

Come off it. You are as bad as your perceived enemies Miriam pointing out the exact same vices that you surrender to in equal measure. I am sick to my back teeth of this polemical culture war nonsense that you lot on both sides of the debate have made into a veritable day job to the point of ceasing to enjoy life with your apocalyptic predictions and perma-keyboard bashing.

Of course, the very last people we hear from are actual trans people..Of course not. It’s Miriam and her lot on one side versus the uber-woke on the other, each one more angry than the next ready to at all times of the day and night to hurl abuse at each other – “transphobe” – “fascist” etc. etc..

Give our heads some peace and GET A LIFE. I cannot abide this nonsense.

        1. Bitnboxy

          Oi mate, that’s my line!

          ROFL!

The difference is Miriam and her “gender critical feminist” brigade (is that the term – they’re as bad as their enemies for labels) and the ultra-wokists are serious. I do it for fun.

          :-p

Still, it would be nice to hear from actual trans people. I feel sorry for them – their supposed defenders and resolutely-opposed enemies (Miriam, Clampers etc) are both as mad as a bag of spanners.

    2. Zaccone

      +1
I’m all for equal rights. But you can’t just silence anyone whos opinions you disagree with. That way lies fascism.

You need to publicly debate them, to show the error of their waves. If they’re wrong and you’re right that should be no problem.

      1. Clampers Outside

It’s revealing that those doing the silencing don’t actually want a debate and have taken a “no debate” position from the beginning.
Sure didn’t TENI say they were delighted with having brought in Self ID by approaching politicians through private lobbying and intentionally avoiding any public lobbying so as to, in their own words, achieve their goal by going “under the radar” of the public, and public discussion.
They believe themselves righteous, and righteousness unbridled makes it easy to excuse themselves of their undemocratic tactics.
Actions and tactics they would be in arms about were they done by those they oppose.

    3. Hank

It’s very ironic that they think of themselves as being left wing when the way they deal with anyone who dares to even put a counter argument to them is extremely right wing.
Despite what they might want people to believe, differences of opinion and debate are actually good things.
And nobody has a right to not be offended..

As a Sabbatical Officer I was one of those who banned cigarettes and all tobacco products that originated in South Africa from UCD Student’s Union shop. (it was rather a long time ago). The Rep called every day for about a month. Ultimately the last conversation was comprised of just two words, the second one was ‘off’.

  5. D-troll

only thing id say is that there are bigger issues than the irish times.

Chinese tennis player gone missing or into hiding. is there a boycott of Chinese stuff?

So true. Same on Broadsheet. Commenters tearing lumps out of each other about Covid or this crap. A post about housing / homelessness and crickets. Although, Broadsheet regulars are possibly 40+ so not that bothered by housing may be a likely answer. Still very interesting to see what posts get traction on Broadsheet now – shows the volte face in terms of editorial line, the very few regulars left and the populist outlook of newbies.

For the avoidance of doubt, there are thousands in Ireland waking up to the pernicious creep of Gender Theory – or Queer Theory. Families directly affected by it are for sure putting a huge, daily effort into understanding what is going on and to bringing it out into the open for public scrutiny and discussion. No apology for that. This was explcitly not supposed to happen, hence the personal abuse aimed at anyone who speaks up, the boycotts and all the other ugly strategies. Never any discussion of the substantive issues, mind, because ‘No Debate’. But mainly because the theory doesn’t stand up to ten seconds of examination. They may not want to be involved in discussion but the rest of us are going to have one, regardless.

Gender apologists are morally superior to everyone else – kinder, better people. Which is why they will offer breast binding advice to 12yr-old girls, and tell teenagers that puberty blockers are ‘reversible’ even when they know they arrest sexual development and function for life. Like they were playing with toy dolls or something. Lovely people. Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman is proud to count himself among their number. He’s busy trying to make it so that children under 16 can go behind their parents’ backs and do these things to themselves, with the connivance of captured (or terrified) teachers and other ‘professionals’ who must acdept this as ‘progressive’ and ‘inclusive’. Meanwhile he is sending the likes of TENI and BelongTo into schools to explain gender theory to children and how they must believe in it, or else.Like the priests long ago who used to come and test us on our Catechism before Communion or Confirmation. How many children will be sterile for life withn ten years if we don’t speak up? How many of them will feel like this detransitoner:

Oh would you just give it a fuppin rest. I don’t doubt like the ultra-wokists, aka your sworn enemies, that you live, eat and breathe this nonsense and are as bad if not worse for labels but you two set of extremists are not worth entertaining one second. Both of you offer no insight – just invective, hyperbole, polarisation and ironically dysfunction.

Lol. Mad auld lad GiggidyGums batting his eyelids at alt-right / far right ideas. Who would have thought it given Giggz’s anti-migrant rants? A disgruntled ageing toothless port worker on night shifts with a troubled life has found the latest scapegoat for his woes.

Strong whiff of incel off Christie.”

Crawl off Boxy. Scan the code. Heal thyself. Oh yeah..provide links to these migrant rants you allude to in most of your posts about me. (p.s, You can’t. )

        1. Bitnboxy

Lol. More deranged tripe from you GiggidyGums. Dear oh dear.

Your malevolence and revisionism knows no bounds mad auld lad GiggidyGums. I do not care one whit that you are fuming in all your dysfunction. And you think it is just me calling out your tawdry displacement activity here- check out what Vanessa aka Frilly Keane said about you last St Stephen’s Day (including your nasty “comments” about migrants) – a day you devoted entirely to lashing out on here (wonder why?!) https://www.broadsheet.ie/2020/12/25/st-stephens-days-papers/ What man of your age behaves like this? Not decent successful men but the disgruntled and bitter.

So do one, troddle off and oh yes, scan d’aul code yourself! Knock yourself out sweetheart.

          :-p

          1. GiggidyGoo

Great retort – proves my point. Ha Haa

Still no link to your claims about migrants then? You quote that thread, and nowhere in it are there anti-migrant ‘rants’.

The truth of the matter though is that you post it every so often to try rekindle a spat between myself and herself. Nothing else. You play both sides of the fence, using your alter egos to both agree, and then to disagree with various contributors here.

One of the reasons I remind you to always scan the code.

Just want to point out while Bit_ may indeed have alter egos on the site (who knows or even cares?) – I actually hate your posts on my own.

Meanwile at College of Further Education – a PLC this week – I’ve got the photographs from the classroom – this is what students are being taught via materials supplied to them by BelongTo and TENI:

Definition of a lesbian – ‘ a woman who is MAINLY attracted to other women’ [my epmhasis]. Nope, that wouldn’t be true. Lesbians are exclusively attracted to other women. That’s what the word means. Why leave room for doubt? So the male-sexed people who claim to be lesbians can get a free pass into that category via Self ID – right into changing room, rape shelters etc. Ergo, you must accept some men as sexual partners, girls. It will be ‘transphobic’ if you do not. It’s pure gender theory indoctrination.

At the same time: “Gay = a person who is MAINLY attracted to people of the same sex.” Why the double standard here? What’s happened to the category of people known as ‘men’. Male homosexuality = men attracted to other men.

People who are MAINLY attracted to one sex but not exclusively so are Bisexual. But we have to accomodate the lie that a peron can literally change sex to enable a man to say he is a lesbian or a woman to say she is a gay man. That’s what gender/queer theory does. It’s deeply confusing, fact and reality distortion for everyone, let alone teenagers and children right at the point of puberty.

There is a debate. One side has decided to take the ball off the pitch and reside on a self ordained moral high ground. Anyone who wants the ball back is a bigot
