Last night/this morning.

A petition has been launched calling for the removal of the domestic COVID pass in Ireland.

‘Vaccinated and Worried’ writes:

The domestic COVID pass in Ireland should be abolished immediately. It is a divisive and discriminatory measure with very little scientific basis.

As a tool it divides the nation but if you are vaccinated but oppose the domestic COVID please add your name to this petition (at link below).

I still have faith in Irish people and I hope that deep down many know that it is fundamentally wrong to deny fellow citizens a normal every day life based on a medical treatment.

I am vaccinated but I no longer feel comfortable sitting inside knowing that others cannot do so. The only reason the domestic COVID pass is possible is because the vaccinated consider it acceptable.

If you are vaccinated but against the domestic COVID pass please add your name and voice to this petition.

    Nonsense, nonsense, nonsense.

There is BIG difference between “others cannot do so” and “others choose not to do so”. If you have a medical exemption, then fair enough. Otherwise, get vaccinated, and stop being a massive conspiracy-theory-loving idiot.

Nobody is forcing anyone to get vaccinated, but it is perfectly acceptable that people who are more likely to get infected because they refuse to get jabbed should be prevented to going into crowded pubs and restaurants.

    1. Micko

      Dear Jim,

I have a family member who has a medical exemption from vaccination. A registered cert from her GP.

She cannot get a pass and is banned from all indoor activity. She has contacted several TD’s, councillors – one of whom contacted Stephen Donnelly’s dept for her.

She received a “sorry, not sorry” reply from Catherine Martin. Why Ms Martin? – don’t know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Catherine Martin literally sent out a copy of “the rules” to her. Nothing else – Just a “sorry about that” and a copy of the guidelines

      Please advise Jim

      1. Cian

This is as it should be.
She is not vaccinated, so should not get a vaccination passport.

Should there be exemptions for indoor dining for her is a different question. Is she one of the “vulnerable groups”? Should she be avoiding areas where she could be infected?

        1. Micko

“Should she be avoiding areas where she could be infected?”

She is not vulnerable. She suffers from an allergic condition – as confirmed by her GP, and the cert confirming this has been sent to government and ignored.

And even if she was vulnerable, the CHOICE to live her life and take whatever risk she sees fit should always be there Cian.

She is denied this right under current legislation.

          1. Cian

, the CHOICE to live her life and take whatever risk she sees fit should always be there
            Rubbish.

Try using that excuse if you are stopped driving without a seatbelt; or driving while drunk, or a thousand other situations where you DON’T have that “choice”. In society there are rights and responsibilities. One persons “rights” don’t supersede anothers.

          2. Micko

            Hang on Cian,

I think you’re getting the wrong end of the stick here – are you advocating that the vulnerable should stay in forever?

And because my family member CAN;T be vaccinated – she should also be banned from public events?

          3. johnnny

.ah stop seriously,an ‘allergy’ now renders you vulnerable and the govt needs allocate resources for these ‘vunerable’ people-FFS.

          4. johnnny

…have you tried hello@thejournal.ie,what type resources does she need allocated, are there also many other ‘sufferers’ of this extremely rare condition…its an outrage the Irish govt has let her and ALL the other people with allergies down.

          5. Micko

Well, it’s severe enough that she has been prescribed an epipen and been given a cert from her GP. And she needs no resources. Just needs to be exempt from the vaccine pass.

But again – thanks for playing Doctor and Nurses Johnny

And also for writing coherent well thought out posts.

            You’re a real pleasure buddy.

          6. SOQ

People with certain types of allergies have been advised not to take those vaccines because the anthropologic shock could kill them- why is this even being discussed?

What is of more concern is that there is a growing body of experts who believe that anybody who has an autoimmune disease should not take them either. I am paraphrasing but they are citing a range of symptoms which should not be happening as evidence that these treatments are impacting the immune system in ways they were never supposed to.

          7. benblack

Anaphylactic shock, I think you mean, SOQ – not to be fastidious or anything.

Anthropological shock is also, surprisingly, relevant in terms of the Plandemic and its effect on the consciousness of populations.

      1. Cian

The Vaccine Passport doesn’t reduce spread.

The vaccine reduces (not eliminates) the likelihood of catching Covid, thus the likelihood of spreading Covid Vaccinated people are less likely to spread Covid than the unvaccinated.

        1. SOQ

Given that is now accepted that vaccinated can be just as infectious- what evidence is there that vaccinated are less likely to spread? Or is that just more pharma spinning?

Those carrying this new ‘variant’ into Australia are all vaccinated of course.

          1. Cian

            Try reading what I wrote.
I’ll copy and paste the important bit for you:
The vaccine reduces (not eliminates) the likelihood of catching Covid

          2. Fred

Every single day you type the same lie ‘Given that is now accepted that vaccinated can be just as infectious’.
It wasnt true the forth time and isnt true the 1 zillionth. Get yourself a new shtick.

          1. Cian

We can. Lets look at Table 1 in that report you linked to. The one called “Table 1. Summary of evidence on vaccine effectiveness against different outcomes Delta

            Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) Vaccine effectiveness*
            Infection 75-85%
            Symptomatic disease 80-90%
            Hospitalisation 95-99%
            Mortality 90-99%

            AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) Vaccine effectiveness*
            Infection 60-70%
            Symptomatic disease 65-75%
            Hospitalisation 90-99%
            Mortality 90-95%

Your Table 11 has a footnote that says Comparing case rates among vaccinated and unvaccinated populations should not be used to estimate vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 infection.

    2. Cui Bono?

      @Jim
I disagree Jim. It’s blatant coercion and unfair and unjustified segregation. With talk of mandating the vaccines, is forcing us to take them just around the corner?

The vaccines do not provide immunity or stop transmission. Everyone surely knows this by now. The only potential benefit is for the person taking it but most of us are not at any risk in the first place so do not need a vaccine for it, especially vaccines that do not complete their clinical trials until 2023.

Finally, the Relative Risk Reduction of 95% that was sold to the public is not being honest because the Absolute Risk Reduction is only 0.8% so this is the more important number when comparing vax vs not vaxed. Most are still unaware of this. Read more here https://maryannedemasi.com/publications/f/covid-19-vaccine-benefits-exaggerated-say-experts

No conspiracy theory here, just logic and data.

      1. Cian

Jeez, what is it with you and the ARR? like a broken record.

Do you know the ARR of Polio? Or Measles? or Rubella? or any of the other diseases we vaccinate against? or even seat-belts for that matter?

If your arguement against the COVID vaccines is based on the ARR being small then you should either (a) also be against all vaccines (and seatbelts) based on your “logic and data”; or (b) shut up about ARR.

        1. Cui Bono?

Why do you keep brining up polio, measles and rubella? Trying to distract from the point as usual.

My point here is that most people think they’re 95% effective when they’re not. They have been misled. This misleading of the public is causing serious divisions in society. What ever happened to informed consent????

          1. Cian

you are suggesting that we shouldn’t vaccinate becasue the Absolute Risk Reduction is only 0.8% .
If that is your reasoning, they you are anti every vaccination.

          2. Cui Bono?

            @Cian
“you are suggesting that we shouldn’t vaccinate becasue the Absolute Risk Reduction is only 0.8% .”

No, I’m not and I never said this. I was pointing out that most people have not been properly informed, and that they have been misled.

This misinformed public is causing division in society because they’re complying with illogical and discriminatory vaccine passports. If everyone was properly informed then we would not have vaccine passports because people would reject them and put this corrupt government on trial for spreading fear and misinformation.

          3. Cian

So why do you keep bring up the ARR?
If it is not relevant to measles, it is not relevant to Covid.

you wrote: I was pointing out that most people have not been properly informed, and that they have been misled.

But if you look at MMR the HSE says:
            How effective is MMR vaccine?
The full course of MMR vaccine offers good protection against measles for 99% of people, against rubella (German measles) for 95% of people and against mumps for 88% of people.
            https://www.hse.ie/eng/health/immunisation/pubinfo/pcischedule/vpds/mmr/

They don’t use ARR…. nobody uses ARR. It is just people like you that want to fear-monger against vaccination.

Information on the Covid vaccines are presented in the same way as other vaccines. The only misinformation is coming from the anti-vaxxers.

          4. Cui Bono?

            @Cian
OMG Cian seriously, the ARR is used.

Are the majority of people who get covid at risk of serious illness or death?

How does the IFR compare to measles etc.?

These covid vaccines are still new in trials and very different to traditional vaccines which have completed their clinical trials and been in use for many many years.

          5. Cian

OMG Cian seriously, the ARR is used.
            No it isn’t.

Show me where the AAR is used for any of the childhood vaccines (specifically in documents that are accessed by the general public making informed decisions as to give said vaccines to their kids: as opposed to technical papers).

  2. Ellie Campbell

We need to copper fasten the Covid pass. Buses, Luas, EVERYWHERE. No pass, home you go and stay there!

  3. Kim Cardassian

Person who disagrees with proving your vaccination status is asking vaccinated people to sign a a petition.

You couldn’t make this poo up. Where do you find these plebs?

    1. SOQ

Because the media and politicians try and frame the debate as vaccinated vs unvaccinated when that is very far from the case. IF Vaccine Passports are so popular then make them voluntary and lets see how many business feel it is in their interests to comply.

      1. Kim Cardassian

Ah come on man, you’re not that stupid. That’s like asking industries to self regulate. When has that ever worked out?

        1. SOQ

The businesses would base their decision on the opinions of their customers- in some places they are already doing so.

People aren’t stupid- most already know that Vaccine Passports do nothing to reduce the spread- so what is the bloody point?

  4. freewheeling

What if you’re unvaxed and want to petition against the pass? Discrimination!

Not sure they fully thought that through.

    1. Kim Cardassian

Exactly! What about people who don’t like to be told what to do? They might want to sign this but don’t like to be told to sign it!

  5. Kim Cardassian

One of the human rights you believe in is “the right to highest attainable standard of health” and our duty to protect the vulnerable in society.

Or do you make exceptions to rights that inconvenience you?

    1. SOQ

I keep asking this question- in what way do Vaccine Passports provide the “highest attainable standard of health”?

You are defending this nonsense- so please answer.

      1. Kim Cardassian

You consistently have ignored all the evidence based peer reviewed research I’ve shared with you in the past

Can you produce evidence based peer reviewed research to support any of your claims?
