Guest speakers: Dee Wall, Conor McGregor, Gemma O’Doherty, David Quinn, Rowan Croft, and various other people who are either cranks, half-wits, or rightwing nutjobs.

    1. Cui Bono?

      bla bla bla

      Talking nonsense as usual Sara.

You haven’t a clue and if you think children should be wearing masks then you’re the half-wit, rightwing nut job.

    2. Darren

It seems though sara that when you dismiss the appeal of something that is seemingly appealing.. like it has a list of speakers and a poster and so on… you do not in any way make it less appealing, unless you presume that others will see your assessment and identify with it as a statement … in which case you would assume that they would already take that position… so far as I see there is a consistent underlying basis for the considerations and concerns of those who do not feel comfortable with the official narrative as it is now in its own way consistently offered … the fact is that .. and equally the weakness of state functions to provide sufficient mechanics to meet with the various outcomes of a live challenge like this virus represents has only reinforced the feelings of let’s call it discomfort or maybe anxiety which attendees at a protest like this have felt for the last year and a half or longer most likely .. considering a complete social reform has long been required regards the manner in which the state serves it’s people and not simply a proven cohort of its own image.. Let’s be honest do any if these ppl vote ff or fg .. perhaps a few greens but by and large this is a political rally because state politics has shown itself as even weaker than it might once have appeared

      1. Sara

No, this is the 3 percent fringe nutjob element that have been around since the foundation of the state, and exist in every Western Democracy. The crowd that will turn up to this event will be minuscule, mainly a bunch of attention seekers and Identity Ireland types. They’re welcome to protest, but let’s be honest, half these people couldn’t tie their own shoelaces, and the other half probably date their family members.

    3. Micko

The last protest I was at was for Savita Halappanavar in 2012.

      I don’t really do protests.

But I’ll be going to this one.

I don’t give a flying fupp if big Jim right wing McFuppinnasti organised it.

        1. K. Cavan

You see, where you’re going wrong, ICSTR, (you don’t mind if I call you that?) is that by saying that people are on the “fringe”, you imply that they’re automatically wrong. This is a logical fallacy called Argumentum Ad Populum, in the vernacular The Bandwagon Fallacy. Unfortunately, history has taught us that being in the majority doesn’t imply being right. In this case, you’re not only displaying your lack of debating skill but flagging a clear distaste for, even irritation with those who refuse to jump on the same bandwagon as youself, which indicates a strong reactionary tendency & a short fuse.
In short, and don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re coming across as a thick fascist. Which I’m absolutely, totally & utterly convinced you may not be, at all.

    4. K. Cavan

Sara, how can you be so down on Right-wing nutjobs, after all, you are one. Is it the competition aspect of it?

        1. Micko

Heh – that was actually pretty funny Nigel

          Well done.

Anyway my point is that Covid is BIG business. Ever the snappers are up for making a few bob. Give the public what they want etc

And sure who could blame them. A rube is a rube

          1. Nigel

We live in a capitalist society. Everything is big business. Every crisis or tragedy or shock to the system is an opportunity to be exploited for someone. I’m all for overhauling capitalism if you are.

    1. K. Cavan

That’s an important point, Kim & I’m glad you raised it, however it’s hard to believe that your concern for this minor is genuine, given that you appear to be the type who favours placing minors in masks all day in school or have I assumed too much?
Anyone with a brain or who’s been following the scientific investigation of & evidence-gathering on the matter, knows by now that paper won’t stop something as small as a virion & that fabric masks actually cause more transmission & infection by a whole range of pathogens.
Nice of you to think of the children for once, anyway but maybe expand that concern to something that actually matters to their wellbeing?
      Probably not.

  2. ANO

When Broadsheet makes posts like these should they be taken as endorsements of the events and organisers ?

    1. SOQ

Yes- parents protesting against child asphyxiation and potential phycological damage is such a subversive and dangerous thing now isn’t it?

      Positively terrorist.

      1. ANO

Posting advertisements for events and groups that you haven’t done your due diligence on could have unforeseen consequences, yes.

I’m not saying that’d the case here, in lieu of an answer from the site I’ll assume that they’ve done their homework.

        1. Daisy Chainsaw

I’m sure Bodger and co know exactly who’s behind this latest racket… which is why it’s being pimped on BS.

          1. SOQ

I suppose in your world, objecting to the forcing children to wear rags over their mouths and nose would be a “racket”.

But sure all you see is far left and hard right eh? In other words, your own reflection.

      2. Jon Smoke

Have you talked to any children about this SOQ?
Have you asked them if they feel ‘asphyxiated’ when they wear a mask?
Have you asked them if wearing a mask worries them or if it would affect them in anyway.

I doubt you have. You should try it instead of your unsubstantiated ranting.

        1. E'Matty

Would these be the children you guys have happily terrorised these last 18 months?

Ireland facing mental health ‘tsunami’ among children, committee told

          https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/ireland-facing-mental-health-tsunami-among-children-committee-told-1.4706171

“Ireland is facing into a “tsunami” of mental health problems among children as a result of Covid 19, with rising numbers contacting services about being suicidal, anxious and self-harming, an Oireachtas watchdog has been warned.”

“In the first week of school closures, Childline experienced an instant increase in demand across online, phone and text.”

Daily statistics of deaths and cases had also “played havoc with children’s emotions” and the service was getting calls from children as young as six years of age saying they were “afraid and scared”

6 year olds living in fear all because there are adults stupid enough to allow children be terrorised by a government over a virus that poses almost no risk to them whatsoever.

          1. Nigel

Pandemics are bad, I’m sorry to say, and wishing doesn’t make them go away. Get mad at a world that doesn’t value health services, mental health, educational facilities and pandemic preparedness, Demand heavy investment in child and adult mental health services now, or we’ll be really paying a heavy price down the road.

        2. SOQ

Yes Jon Smoke- children absolutely LOVE having to inhale their own waste. As for the visual cues they need to develop, sure they don’t really need them anyways.

It’s child abuse- no other words for it.

          1. Jonsmoke

You have no other words for it because your vocabulary is limited to phrases of fear and scaremongering.

            ‘child abuse’
            ‘child asphyxiation’
            ‘phycological damage’

It would seem you don’t actually understand the meaning of these words.

Take a couple of deep breaths and calm yourself down.

You don’t know what you are talking about. I have 2 primary school going kids. I have talked to them about wearing masks. They have no issue with it. They understand the need for it. Many of their classmates have been wearing masks all year with no problems at all.

          2. SOQ

And because you have done a straw poll of two, that is the matter settled then is it?

There is report after report published on this subject- from child physiologists- and every single one them says that it harms children.

But you know better of course, because your little darlings ‘don’t mind’.

          3. Nigel

SOQ, you don’t care about children. Not real actual living children. Real children are irrelevant ‘little darlings.’ You express visceral disgust at child activists against climate change, a crisis that is going to cause damage to children in orders of magnitude worse than this. Accusations of child abuse from you are equivalent to pizzagate in terms of actual concern for actual children.

      3. Nigel

It’s third-rate Satanic Panic level stuff, consciously and deliberately whipped up, too, considering so much of the underlying ideology is driven by utterly demented conspiracy theories, so the closest they can come to a respectable argument is that the children are asphyxiating. That the pandemic is taking a psychological toll on children (and everyone else) is uncontroversial, but if the only helpful suggestion they have for dealing with that serious problem is ‘just make it magically go away’ then they’re not much use to ayone.

        1. Chris

Un-elected committees at the behest of NGOs are devising strategy that seeks to coerce all political clients to take ‘vaccines’. They’re doing this using ‘behavioral scientists’ to ‘nudge’ people using psychological tactics, that undermine the very nature of informed consent.

A recurring tactic is to give opposing messages – often on the same day. “No mandates for kids masks” – “Mandates for kids masks”. If instructions are followed, ‘privileges’ will be granted. “If you get vaccinated, the masks can come off”.

This seeks to further split the targeted cohorts – in this case 5-11 year olds, into two camps. Those that ‘behaved’ and those that didn’t (signified by the mask). This creates pressure amongst peers and in/out group situations will form.

From once a significant proportion of the targeted demographic is ‘jabbed’ – the masks will go back on for all.

          https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/05/14/scientists-admit-totalitarian-use-fear-control-behaviour-covid/

          1. Nigel

‘They’re doing this using ‘behavioral scientists’ to ‘nudge’ people using psychological tactics, that undermine the very nature of informed consent.’

Oh no run the pandemic truthers have heard about advertising. And the chaotic nature of pandemics when countries are unprepared. And different messaging in different countries. And messaging changing to reflect actual events. And politicians struggling during an extended crisis. And that people don’t get to be experts by people voting for them but by studying and working in their chosen fields. And how fun it is to impose a narrative on all that to make themselves feel clued in to the secret operating heart of the world!

Calm down, K.Cavan – and less of the personal attacks in your comments, if you don’t mind.

Be a sniper and not a scattergun.

  3. Nilbert

    Hmmm, let’s see….

Wear a mask to help curb transmission of a virus: Terrifying Message for children

Democracy is being destroyed by an authoritation global elite hell bent on culling humanity: Perfectly reasonable mesage for children

    1. Daisy Chainsaw

However did anyone get through Halloween without asphyxiating or being psychologically damaged by wearing the Terrifying Message?!?

      1. SOQ

Yes, everyone wore Halloween masks which restricted their breathing for eight hours a day, five days a week.

    2. Cui Bono?

Nilbert, masks do not help curb transmission of a virus. If you bothered to look at the scientific studies you would know this.

    3. K. Cavan

Nilbert, you may describe it, flippantly, as a ”terrifying message” but this flippancy merely displays a deep ignorance of human psychology, how much we need to communicate with each other and what an important role this communication plays in allowing our children (https://www.broadsheet.ie/contact/) to develop the social skills they will require throughout their lives to be quite simply normal, well-adjusted people. This is even more important given that, at this stage, anyone who’s actually dumb enough to believe the fairy story that masks can prevent transmission of any virus is probably a bucket of hair, pretending to be a person.
      https://www.broadsheet.ie/contact/
The rest of your message, about the Global Elite is spot on, so kudos to you, time will prove you correct, on that one.

  4. Pat

LOL @ the lads co-opting the name of Greta’s climate strike movement for their demo. I’m guessing a fair few of the bogies that turn up wouldn’t hold with climate change.

    Good luck to them!

  5. Nigel

    ‘Inhumane.’

    idiots.

If democracy means we can’t respond to a highly contagious airborne virus that has killed 5.2 million people worldwide then you will be showing that democracies, in fact, can not work. Of course the ventilation problem should have been adressed by the government over the Summer, then masks might not be necessary, but you can’t go back in time and elect a government that doesn’t that prefers to avoid investing in public service infrastructure even during a crisis.

By the way, have you looked into who’s organising this? Are they respectable non-embarrassing pandemic truthers, or are they the extremist fringe guys you prefer to elaborately proclaim your ignorance of every time they come up? Or is ignorance bliss? In a news source, no less?

      1. K. Cavan

That’s right, Papi, we’ve come to expect impartiality, whatever you might mean by that, from our media, haven’t we? I think you mean that BS is not brain-farting the exact same jibber-jabber as the rest of the corporate or state media, perhaps? Is that what you mean by impartiality and in what way, roughly, do you think this reposting of something that’s widely circulating on the internet is not ”impartial”?
Te quiero, Papi….you’re a gas yoke.

    1. Cui Bono?

I see you’re back from annual leave Nigel, welcome back!

Things haven’t changed since you were off. Masks still don’t work at stopping viruses (according to the best scientific studies and observational data) so children should definitely not be made to wear masks.

Oh and just to repeat once again 5.2 million have not died from covid – it’s far less than that when you remove all of those who died from cancer, heart disease and all the other comorbidities that actually did kill them. Many have died from covid yes, but nowhere near 5 million. Many were not even tested for covid and are still down as covid deaths.

At the very least all of this needs to be debated publicly where top scientists and doctors can share the data for all to see and be informed of all sides of the argument.

      1. Nigel

Masks do, in fact, help reduce transmission, and deciding that people with comorbidities who ded of covid don’t count is, well, a grim bit of statistic-fixing. The death toll from covid is probably under-counted.

You want to have an argument? Doctors and scientists are a bit busy at the moment, what with the pandemic and all, to be gratifying your sense of entitlement to their time and energy.

        1. Cui Bono?

The scientific studies show that they don’t reduce transmission. Stop ignoring this and look at them. You are wrong.

Average age of covid death is 83 with 2.6 comorbidities. All death is sad but come on snap out of the hysteria. You know right well that we counted people who were not even tested for covid.

I said it “needs to be debated publicly” – an adult debate showing all the raw data and scientific studies and evidence. You cannot shut down the world based on the WHO declaring there’s a “pandemic” because they changed it about 10 years ago so that there doesn’t even have to be 1 death and they can declare a “pandemic”. The WHO is corrupt at the very top and your ignorance and/or denial of this is not helping.

This is worth reading about the swine flu in 2009 https://www.spiegel.de/international/world/reconstruction-of-a-mass-hysteria-the-swine-flu-panic-of-2009-a-682613.html

          1. Nigel

            Masks do help reduce transmission.

5.2 million deaths wordlwide is bad, then? So glad you think so, but not enough to actually take steps to keep the numbers from being as bad as they could be.

Not sure what a specific public debate would do oter than confirm your sense that everyone involved is corrupt and wrong and in on it while fringe crackpots with theories as dense and impenetrable as neutron stars are being unfairly ignored.

          2. SOQ

            Masks do help reduce transmission.

Keep repeating the lie Nigel- that is what you are paid to do after all.

          3. Nigel

Keep repeating that it is a lie all you like, it won’t make it so.

‘that is what you are paid to do after all.’

Your well known and highly creditable aversion to personal attacks continues to be an example to us all.

        2. benblack

Questioning the science is now a ‘sense of entitlement’?

          How dare you, Cui Bono!

          On your knees, boy.

          1. Nigel

Questioning science? Real science, or the invented alternative science of the pandemic truthers that operates not from experimentation or observation but from’making connections based on selected random facts and bits of data?

          2. benblack

            Come on.

Real science has always been open to refutation, however, this pseudo-science/religion cancels and removes all sources of qualified scientific scrutiny.

Do I really have to list all of the prominent doctors, scientists and other qualified professionals who have been cancelled due to their questioning of this Covid narrative?

          3. Nigel

Of course real science has. Your ‘science,’ on the other hand, is there solely to oppose the reality of the pandemic, and as such falls more under the category of disinformation.

          4. benblack

Since when is using the scientific method to question and refute accepted but flawed scientific theories been labelled as disinformation?

I’ll tell you when. When tobacco companies paid scientists to reassure the public that smoking their products was not harmful to their health – we all now know the real science and health effects of smoking.

Do you really live in the real world?

          5. Nigel

And oil companies used the same tactics to discredit climate change, but technically they didn’t use ‘the scientific method,’ and neither do you guys, you guys use vast, vague, invented motivations and and entirely suppositional connections and selected facts and data and blanket assertions to create an alternative view of reality where the pandemic is not real but an evil plot by literally everyone involved. So, actually, you’re using the model created by tobacco and oil companies to refute reality with lots of noise and floods of disinformation and demands to be heard in public debates and public airwaves. Good for you, I guess. Works for Donald Trump. Sort of.

          6. benblack

I guess I should have listed all of the prominent doctors, scientists and other qualified professionals who have been cancelled due to their questioning of this Covid narrative to prevent you from deflecting their qualified views onto unqualified random internet posters.

            So predictable.

          7. K. Cavan

benblack, it’s ”questioning science” not ”questioning the science”, as anyone who thinks it’s ”the science” invariably gets theirs from the telly.

      2. Cian

many have died from covid yes, but nowhere near 5 million.

For once we are in agreement.

The real number is probably closer to 10 million; India has undercounted Covid deaths, as have Russia, and many other larger countries. China’s 4,636 seems a little suspicious to me.

        1. Cui Bono?

Haha ridiculous, excess deaths say otherwise but stay in denial all you want, just don’t poke me or others with your hysteria.

          1. Nigel

I see there are some official figures from trustworthy sources like India, China and Russia that you like to accept unquestioningly. If the figures ever get revised upwards, as seems likely, I’m sure your position will change accordingly.

          2. Cian

This was from last December. They admitted their figures were way off.

Russia’s true death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic is not about 57 000, as official figures claim, but more than 180 000, the country’s deputy prime minister, Tatiana Golikova, conceded at a press conference.

            https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4975

        2. K. Cavan

Ah, Cian, ten million, you absolute star. For some reason, countries outside of The West have barely been affected by The Killer Cold, I think it’s something to do with The Media, since they’re the ones who actually spread the nonsense & hysteria if not the virus itself.
In 2020 in Ireland, we allegedly had almost two-and-a-half thousand deaths but for some reason the CSO didn’t add them to the total, which was exactly in line with a normal year. Maybe they all rose from the dead after three days?
The real miracle though was the flu disappearing, if you’re prepared to believe that, I know a Nigerian prince who needs to lodge money in your account.
As for the nonsense from the rest of yiz about co-morbidities & the age of victims, even though the HSE did their best to murder as many old people as possible & taking account of their well-known inability to even count trollies in A&E, only 7% of the total of deaths they claimed in Ireland are defined as Premature by the EU’s own mortality statistics rules.

    1. SOQ

You are arguing to mask children so your sorry old ass can feel safe and secure bisted? You are the problem, not a bloody virus.

        1. Daisy Chainsaw

Dee ̶V̶i̶r̶u̶s̶ Wall will be screeching for people to dance on politicians heads again.

Deadly I love an oul dance, especially in this weather
it’s BLEEDIN’ BALTIC OU THERE WHA

          2. SOQ

Interesting there was no such comments last Saturday eh? Or is there no muck to be thrown at the likes of Dr Vincent Carroll?

          3. Daisy Chainsaw

Unlike you, my little SOQpuppet, I have other things going on in my life than spending every waking hour being angry on a website.

          4. Daisy Chainsaw

My sneering, narcissist SOQpuppet hanging on every word I type.

Bless. It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

            Naah, it’s really funny.

  6. stephen moran

May I recommend a school trip to an ICU ward. I bet a lot of the folks protesting would have some fairly fixed ideas on how they’d like to constrain others liberties & should be taken with several kilos of sea salt

      1. K. Cavan

Touche, SOQ. I’d also add that people on ventilators make up two thirds of those in ICU. The beds were going spare so they put people on oxygen masks or nasal cannulas in them. Anyway, I’m sure there’s been millions spent on increasing our ICU capacity, seeing as we’re in the middle of a massive Pandemic, like? No? That doesn’t make sense, does it, the Government & HSE acting like we’re not in the middle of a Pandemic, while the Fake News Media are acting like we are? Who to believe. It’s certainly odd that the government are not putting their money where their mouth is, they keep shouting about what we all have to do but not doing anything themselves. Maybe they know damn well, at this stage, that only a moron could still be taking their Fake Pandemic seriously & be blissfully, ignorantly unaware of Central Bank Digital Currencies, Digital Identity and the Going Direct Reset, as agreed in Jackson Hole in 2019, currently being marketed as The Great Reset. Maybe Claire Byrne hasn’t been able to squeeze that in, what with showing people how to have a Covid-safe cuppa and all.
Outside of the ICUs it’s even worse, though, with 4.16% (roughly) of our hospital beds being over-run by Covid victims or at least people who tested positive on the fake Covid test.

  7. George

I’m sure all the people who opposed children missing school for climate protests will oppose this.

    1. K. Cavan

Protesting the climate, that’s a very Irish thing to do but fire away, it’ll make a lot of billionaires happy, no doubt. The Canute-like desire to stop the constantly-changing climate from ever doing so again is not quite the same as wearing a stupid, pointless facerag for your entire school life, to protect you from something that has claimed no less than zero children’s lives. This shortage of dead children will soon be sorted out as the government plans to kill some with the Fake Vaccines and leave many others with life-changing injuries.
TBH, I’m hoping they’ll give the kids the saline, just to make the intelligent people look like fools, a price I’d gladly pay, rather than having to go about extracting punishment from politicians with enough blood on their hands, already.

    1. GiggidyGoo

Yeah – those games were 6+hours long, five days a week with breaks for hallo’ween, eastern summer and christmas.

  8. Kim The Cardassian

I dont agree with masks on primary school kids but this line in the poster irks me: “Lets lead by example and show our children what real democracy looks like”

What if real democracy shows that most people are happy to mask their kids?

    1. I can't stand the rain

      Technically they are correct though.

‘Real’ democracy would actually be crowds of narrow-minded little mobs running around shrieking constantly.

    2. Nigel

‘Happy’ is granting too much to people whose version of anyone who supports responding to a global pandemic is that of servile sheep delighted to put up with every difficulty and inconvenience at the command of their tyrannical overlords. ‘Accept that it is necessary if it has a chance of keeping the schools open without killing off or disabling all the teachers and children’s immediate families.’

      1. hmmm

Leave the children alone Mr Babylon Bee

They have an immune system – they don’t need your Frankenstein jabs.

Unapproved medicines with no safety data and you want to inject children with them ? – why such carelessly banal evil? Did nobody love you as a child? Do you hate children because you hated your own childhood?

        1. Nigel

Masks are unapproved medicine? They’ve been used for decades in heavily polluted areas of China without actually killing anyone. Unless they’re covering that up, too….

          1. Cian

Frankenstein’s mammy gave him life. Subsequently he, using science (fiction), gave his monster life.

    3. K. Cavan

I hate to see you irked, Kim. What if Real Democracy isn’t actually mentally ill and thinks Bill Gates’ idea of masking kids in school for no rational reason is something only a very, very sick individual would even consider? Because it is, you know.

    1. SOQ

Just got my Pfizer loyalty card today- after ten boosters I get a free defibrillator – great innit?

Asked my young one how she’d feel about wearing a mask, seeing as she’s high risk and so on, and her response was to roll her eyes and tell me “they’re a pain in the arse” but that she wouldn’t mind too much.

She then asked if she’d get a treat for wearing a mask in school, which is exactly the sort of self-serving answer I’d expect from my child.

          Terrible, I know.

Was hoping it would provoke a reaction – which it, eventually, did.

Hope you and yours are keeping well, Millie.

Of all of SOQ’s delusions (there are many) perhaps his greatest is that there are people being paid to go onto broadsheet and disagree with him.

I think they’d call that one a grandiose delusion.

    1. Bodger

There are people paid to troll this and other sites (we’re not special). To believe otherwise is grandiosely naive.

    2. Steph Pinker

Jungleman: many commenters on BS have tried time and again to enlighten you and others as to what’s happening, but, if you choose to willfully ignore and posit your own ‘grandiose delusions’ then as long as you’re not trolling, fair play to you and your intermittent level of integrity. Most people are born without imagination or understanding and accept what they’re told because they like rules; intelligence bears little relevance, especially to dogmatic minds lacking empathy.

Every decision taken has consequences, be they good or bad.

Ah Bodger, that is a terrible thing to say about trolls, you will be conjuring up skittle shitting Unicorns next.
All jokes aside, some fat, desk jockeys in brigade 77, the integrity initiative, numerous other sorros and gates funded think tanks, like bellingcat, a note worthy *unt, reporting on Syria from his his state sponsored bedsit in the UK, are note worthy because of their mercenary nature as typists, and nothing more. At best a fart in the wind.
Their names are not capitalised as they are beyond contempt, and they will have no headstones.
Israel is a little bit ahead of the curve, but it shows what governments in general will prescribe.
