Dublin City Council has given the green light for the demolition of Kiely’s, Donnybrook, Dublin 4 and the construction of a 85-unit co-living scheme (as imagined above)

This afternoon.

Via Irish Times:

An Bord Pleanála has given the go-ahead for the demolition of the well-known Kiely’s pub in Donnybrook, Dublin 4, to make way for a six-storey, shared co-living accommodation scheme.

The board granted permission for the construction of the scaled down 85-unit shared co-living accommodation scheme, and a cafe/restaurant at ground floor level by Shane Whelan’s Domhnach Ltd on Tuesday despite strong local opposition.

Domhnach had originally proposed 100 shared accommodation units.

I cant wait to live in future Dublin, where everyone lives in co-living (student dorms for adults).
Everything is modern and new (and soulless) and all premises are owned by a pension fund, leased to a chain restaurant/pub/shop and staffed by under paid 40 year olds who need the minimum wage to pay rent in their room share.

    The future is bright

the only new build in Dublin actually not a sore on the eye is Wheterspoons on Camden st.
All the hotels and co-living yolks look like this. Absolutely awful looking, at least if they were harmonious to their surroundings, but not even close. That’s the problem with ABP and DCC, they have no taste at all. They don’t recognise beauty. And thru that ignorance, the face of a once unique and gorgeous city is ruined for eternity.

Give out about homelessness and housing crisis then give out about new accommodation. Everything has to be JUST right does it?

Race to the bottom where a future is created where a small number of developers own huge numbers of substandard accommodation and can raise prices at will. The whole “new supply will lower prices” only works in a free market – this market is rigged thanks to developers, their lobbyists and a spineless government. To use the “phrase du jour”, high rental rates are a feature not a bug, and a feature FG and FF are happy with.

yep more like in an all promises, reciting poetry, fur coat and then a huge, restricting, gray knickers way
