Stop that.

Saturday night.

Barcelona, Spain.

KN writes:

Demonstrators marching through the streets of Barcelona protesting against the vax pass and outdoor face mask mandates introduced last month by the local Catalan government. We danced under the arch. What’s the Spanish for tin foil hat conspiraloon…

Anyone?

These people are far-right loons. The march was organized by Vox. Not one of their signs is in Catalan. The Catalan people reject these old and new Francoists.

Most of Barcelona do not speak Catalan. It’s a city of immigrants predominantly, and most of them speak the kings’ Spanish

Even if most do, and it’s a bare majority, there isn’t one sign in Catalan. You’d expect at least half to be in Catalan. Vox is not popular in Catalonia. It has very few seats in the Catalan parliament.

‘sara’ I see you’ve started the new year as you finished the last.

I lived in Barcelona for a year.
Found the people very passionate and patriotic.

When a guy I met randomly in a pub started talking passionately about Catalunya I asked him why is there always a banner at Barca games ‘Freedom To Catalunya’, why isn’t it in Catalan?

He simply answered, “we want the rest of the world to know”.

This year is going to be exstremely important one for information. So please try and engage with the people you are trying to convince or you can only be recognised as a troll.

The signs that are in English, fine, you could argue that’s for the international media. The rest of the signs, why is every single one of them in Castilian? Why isn’t there even ONE in Catalan? Would YOU join a protest that was organized by the neo-fascist political party Vox? Vox is the party that wants to ban the teaching of Catalan in Catalan schools. The people on this march represent a tiny percentage of Catalonia. Franco’s dead, get over it.

You have to laugh when a looney anti-vaxxer holds a sign saying ‘follow the science’.

    1. Mr.T

Science says that vaccinated people are more likely to get infected with omicron than the unvaccinated.
And that natural immunity is more robust and long lasting than the double pfizer.

‘conspiacionista loco con sombrero de papel de aluminio’? … Nunca!

        Hasta la victoria siempre!

        Feliz Ano Nuevo a todos!

I think Ruille that you mistake financially conflicted scientists and for profit organisations pronouncements as “Science”. That banner also says Follow the Money, which you should try some time.

I don’t know about anyone else but I am getting really bored of these one dimensional trolls. They bring absolutely nothing to the site. Trying to goad people is quite pitiful really.

It is quite obvious that the one or more behind them doesn’t care about mandates or passports or anything else- it’s all just a big opportunity to play head games to them.

Just as a little food for thought here, I have similar sentiments regarding some of the more… vociferous of the ‘vaccine skeptic’ crowd. I won’t name names or anything, it’s just a little food for thought.

Differing points of view, especially when you’re reading a lot of them day to day can be onerous, to say the least. It’s why I try not to get bogged down in the vaccine/lockdown discourse too much and only take it with a pinch of salt.

Though I do agree that it’s incredibly frustrating trying to debate something you feel strongly about with someone who is just trying to get a rise out of you.

      1. SOQ

I disagree Millie- these characters have an agenda and are sabotaging this site or at least doing their best to ensure any reasonable messages are deflected or buried in white noise.

I can spot professional comms tricks when I see them because I have worked with enough to know- and they are very much at play here.

If it was up to me they’d get the boot out the door- they have no business being here.

        1. wearnicehats

completely entrenched person complains that their completely entrenched view is continually being countered by people with equally counter entrenched views. There is no possibility of debate on this site, especially with you. Anyone who actually does care about mandates or passports better have the same view point as you or bodger because there is absolutely no balance in this place. Every article posted has an anti-vaxx agenda mixed in with some crap picture of a do or something to try and lower the percentage

    2. Reasonable Commenter

I think you’re a real pet, you really are. You are a bit skeptical and that’s ok. I wouldn’t take it to heart.

These people are the type to argue just to feel that they’ve won. They have no point to make and cannot accept that they may have been foolish to have believed in all the government lines they’ve swallowed again and again over the past two years.

They are the empty vessels that were screaming LOCKDOWN NOW! and were delighted when others fell for the doomsday scenario. As others have realised the actual truth around this false apocalypse, they are now left to hold their “the end is nigh” signs alone. This makes them more aggressive as can be seen increasingly in these comment sections and others.

Take the festering anger as a sign that all this nonsense is coming to an end.

Did anyone see Imelda May recently?
