I pay my not inconsiderable taxes here in Ireland Beavis.
I’m entitled to know why the health service is so underfunded here.
So should every Irish person who cares about the society they live in and the sorry state the Government has allowed our hospitals to become.
If you don’t give a toss neither will they.

  1. Steph Pinker

I admit I’ve never read The New Statesman, however, the front page and the irony of context based on the title, current events and items published through journalistic whining and writing is questionable and without logic – not to mention the illustration of an individual in the middle of a glass floor where a shadow on the right shouldn’t be, especially if one is going forward.

“How Mind Works” by Steven Pinker is a good read, as opposed to BS babble by Steph Pinker. Your mind is playing tricks on you tonight. The man in the illustration is clearly walking down a long corridor with the sun shining through windows on his left. His shadow is where it ought to be.

Paddy, tabula rasa isn’t the seedy, smelly, sticky dark corner table in your local brothel.

Were I you I’d start – and end – with The Blank Slate.

Providing you can read without pictures.

        :)

The irony of someone who can barely write a sentence complaining about writing. Here’s a tip: break long sentences into two. Maybe read Steven Pinker’s The Sense of Style – it may help with your clarity.

Words and Rules would probably have you both asleep earlier and with something more erudite to dream about.

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/politics/covid-passes-and-hospitality-curbs-to-go-as-nphet-clears-the-way-for-easing-of-almost-all-restrictions-in-coming-days-41262429.html

“Nphet has ..advised that measures in schools should remain in place until such time as children who are eligible have had the opportunity to take a full course of the vaccine.”

As predicted, the recent imposing of mandatory masks on primary school children didn’t have a valid medical basis – it was a measure designed to manufacture disruption in children’s lives in order to then pressurise as many parents as possible into getting their kids jabbed when it came time for the roll out.

There’s no medical or ethical case for the mass administration of this drug to healthy children (risk of Covid for healthy kids extremely low; doesn’t stop transmission; designed for a two-year-old strain no longer in circulation; current dominant strain “markedly vaccine resistant”; any potential benefits are known to wane rapidly requiring indefinite boosters; no long term safety data; shoddy clinical trials; many many kids already exposed to Covid and with naturally acquired immunity, etc, etc).

Have to call a spade a spade at this stage: in my opinion the masking of primary school children is a form of state-sanctioned child abuse. So much damage has been done to people’s trust in public health authorities over the past 2 years. It’s not the sign of a healthy society when said authorities routinely impose measures which have the underlying intention to manipulate and coerce public behaviour rather than the supposed public health benefits they’re ostensibly claimed to be for (vax pass is another eg that comes to mind).

+1 State sanctioned child abuse sums it up well. Shocking behaviour that seeks to coerece and terrorise both parent and child.

    2. ManT

It’s hard to argue with any of that. Its even harder to understand NPHETs reasoning. Is it as simple as arrogance

    3. Nigel

It’s terrible and evil when you completely manufacture motivations that can only be discerned via tea-reading and telepathy and wildly overstating the detrimental effects of masks versus their benefits in reducing spread of the virus along with some fearmongering about the vaccine while ignoring how long it took the government to notice how covid was spreading in schools. Narrative indeed.

      1. f_lawless

You’re too far gone Nigel. I don’t think there’s anything I can really say that might prompt you to engage in a reasonable manner, in your current state. Probably best just to leave you be in your bid to “exert control” over the comment sections. Hope you eventually manage to pull through somehow.

“Concerns over knock-on effects of Watt’s payrise”

knock-on effects? How about the main effect – his remuneration is now higher than the US president, most TDs, his UK equivalent, etc.
How is this justified? And how is it acceptable that in his previous job, he set the new salary for his current job?

    Insane corruption at work

      fairly insane stuff alright

(adding to the mountain of head-scratching things about Ireland and how certain people are rewarded)

the only thing I can come up with is that I’d imagine he knows where a lot of bodies are buried..

Actually went looking for a hippo on the front pages until I realised what you meant.

      1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

oh, I actually felt a bit bad saying hippo after I posted, bit fatist and god knows when I see someone heavy running i think fair play because it’s ten times harder,
been getting a few lessons in humility since I was able to lace up again, waiting for the body to catch up with my memory of running lol,
it’s the shirt, jumper ridiculous shorts combo and jack Russell at full pelt, you know he only got as far as past the camera, it’s so unbelievable.

        1. TenPin Terry

          Not fattist.
Just a sign of your inherent inferiority complex that Boris out for his morning run should trigger you so easily.
He’d probably tell you to shut your cakehole.
          Cakehole.Geddit ?
          Mwahaha.

          1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

            hahaha
            inferior, that’s a good one
mines more of a goddess complex ;)

tells you in one short sentence all you need to know

      1. The Millie Obnoxious™

That’s what it’s called right? I’ve been up since 4 and feel drunk with the tiredness

          1. The Millie Obnoxious™

            She is, thanks J.

It was le petit monstre who decided 4am was a perfect time to wake up and run around like a maniac. He is, to be nice about it, a Handful.

        1. TenPin Terry

          Close enough.
          It’s Wetherspoons.
If there’s one near you they do an excellent good-value breakfast with unlimited coffee to help you stay awake.
I particularly like their smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel.
          Marvellous tucker.

    RIP Barry Cryer.
Brilliant jokesmith and one of the nicest people.

” Two men are playing golf on a course next to a road.
Suddenly, a hearse passes by with a coffin in the back, on the way to a funeral. One of the golfers takes off his hat and says to the other one, ‘I hope you don’t mind. Just wanted to show a bit of respect.’
The other golfer says, ‘That’s so thoughtful of you.’
And the first golfer says, ‘well, she was a good wife.’
