From top: scene of Tuesday’s shooting in Lugmore in the Mount Seskin area of Tallght; Today’s Irish Sun

This morning.

As Keith Conlon, 35, who was shot in the head on Tuesday while out hunting rabbits on rural farmland in Tallaght seconds after his lurcher was shot dead, remains in a coma…

…via The Irish Sun:

The Irish Sun can reveal Senior Counsel Diarmuid Rossa Phelan, in his 50s, is being questioned in connection with the shooting.

He is a fellow of Trinity College and of the European Law Institute. He is also a member of the Board of Trinity and was Chair of the Fellows at the facility until 2018.

We understand Phelan raised concerns about trespassers on his land with cops in recent weeks. It led him to erecting more signs since the start of the year warning people to keep off his property.

We can also reveal the leading legal eagle had numerous firearms licences for various weapons at his home in Tallaght.

One theory is that Keith may have been struck by mistake when Phelan fired warning shots after noticing his dog on his land.

Phelan could be hit with reckless discharge of a firearm or more serious charges.

unless there is more to this story to emerge, my only guess is ‘three shotgun pellets from one cartridge’.

three individual weapon discharges is another matter.

To be honest the signs are pretty clear. Why do people think they can roam wherever they want especially when its private property.

youd think with alec baldwin case, anyone would be really reluctant to hold a gun in the first place. i often sympathise with road users that accidently hit a pedestrian if they arent speeding and didnt see them. But if someone picks up a gun, any sympathies for a shooter (even if action was only negligent or reckless) go out the window.

it seems to me, once you allegedly hapen to put pellets/bullets into somebody’s head(accidentally or otherwise), having just shot their dog -( or was the dog an accident too?)
At this juncture your profession is not relevant – you become a an alleged reckless person with a shooting stick.
All the other trappings of your success are mere side notes.
I hope the victim makes a full and speedy recovery

All this is conjecture of course.
Mr Phelan may have been defending himself.
Why don’t you wait for the boys in blue to finish their investigations before making tools of yourselves ?

Given that he looks like a character from Withnail an dI, it’s only fair that people get to presuppose and imagine all manner of goings-on. I have the scene from start to finish in my head – and it’s a right old jape.

Mr Phelan was an injured party in a case in 2017 in Tallaght Court where a group of teenagers thew stones at his car up in Hazelgrove. The teens were found guilty

THREE teenage trespassers who damaged a car in a Tallaght golf club
have been found guilty by Tallaght Court.

Calvin Carlyle (19) and two 17-year-olds were trespassing in
the golf club at the time. A fourth teenager was dealt with under the
JLO scheme while another teenager charged in connection with the
    incident died in January.

Carlyle, aged 19, with an address at Gleann Na Heorna, Springfield,
Tallaght, and the two 17-year-olds, both with addresses in Tallaght
had pleaded not guilty to damaging the windscreen of a car and
trespassing at the golf club in Tallaght, on June 1, 2016.

The Manager of the golf club told Judge McNamara that he had arrived
at the golf club on an above date and saw a group of youths coming out
of the sheds. He said : “They were hurling abuse at me. I took some
photographs as far as I could.”

He said that they started throwing rocks at his car. He said his
windscreen was scratched and the roof and bonnet were scored.

The damage to his car came to €185. He identified the three accused at
    being at the scene.

Judge Patricia McNamara ruled that the trio had the case to answer on
both the trespass and the criminal damage charges.

Their solicitor, Michael Hennessy, told Judge McNamara that the two
juveniles were changing their plea to guilty on the trespass charge.

The first juvenile told the court that he had been in the golf club on
the day in question. He said he had been there because a friend of his
had committed suicide in the grounds of the golf club and he was
visiting the memorial to his friend.

He denied throwing any rocks at the car.

The second juvenile also said he had been in the golf club to visit
his friends memorial. He also denied throwing rocks at the car.

Carlyle told the court that he wasn’t in the golf club at the time.

    He said: “I wasn’t there. I wasn’t throwing rocks”.

He denied he was in one of the photographs taken by the manager of the
    golf club.

Mr Hennessy asked the judge to acquit Carlyle on the grounds that the
evidence was inadequate, that there had been a dock identification,
that there had been no id parade and that Carlyle had given clear
evidence that he had not been at the scene.

He asked the judge to dismiss the criminal damage charges against the
    two juveniles.

Judge McNamara found Carlyle guilty on both charges and found the two
juveniles guilty on the criminal damage charges.

Garda Stephen Murray said Carlyle had no previous convictions. He said
one of the juveniles had 18 previous convictions and the second
    juvenile had one previous.

Judge McNamara remanded the three accused on continuing bail for a
    month for presentence reports.

One of the yoots, Calvin, seems to be quite the messer. Quick DuckDuckGo will find his court appearances. Most notable of which was for his meeting with Joan Burton Jobstown Nov 2014.

The man killed was Keith Conlon.
Diarmuid Rossa Phelan is the man reportedly being questioned in relation to the killing.
