Johnson compares Ukraine’s fight for freedom to Brexit vote

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/boris-johnson-gavin-barwell-ukraine-brexit-ed-davey-b2039636.html

“”The comparison was criticised by Tory peer Lord Barwell, who pointed out Ukraine is seeking to join the European Union.

Former European Council president, Donald Tusk, said the prime minister’s words “offend Ukrainians, the British and common sense”.

Guy Verhofstadt, former Belgian prime minister and EU Brexit negotiator, said the comparison was “insane”.

Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Ed Davey, said Mr Johnson “is a national embarrassment”, adding: “To compare a referendum to women and children fleeing Putin’s bombs is an insult to every Ukrainian.

“He is no Churchill. He is Basil Fawlty.””

    1. TenPin Terry

Ukraine says who are Gavin Barwell and Sir Ed Davey ?
And thank you Boris for being there for us when the curtain-haired slimeball Verhofstadt was keeping his head down.

Mate, they worship Boris in Ukraine.
Can’t see Mehole getting a standing ovation at the Ukraine Cathedral in London can you ?
They’d probably think he’s the bloke doing the collection as they’re so used to seeing Irish politicians with their hands out begging for something instead of giving.

They’re just guilt-tripping your beloved Brits – it’s the frontine equivalent of shaking a tin, you dupe.

Mind you, you do owe them, seeing as you’d sold the Russians more military gear than you’d sold the Ukranians.

Try to catch up. It’ll go some way to taking the bad look off Patel trying to keep female Ukrainian refugees out of the UK.

Someone tell that male appendage Johnson…

That the only similarity between Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and Brexit

Is that Putin ordered and benefited from both

          3. stephen moran

Lebedev, Cruddas, Claire Fox, Zac, Frost, Eddie Lister, Gisela, Dan Hannan and this complete and utter spanner Moylan. All given ermine that toerag Johnson.

Mate – I reckon the latest Starstreak high-velocity anti-aircraft missile system and 4,000 anti-tank rocket launchers are going down a storm in Ukraine.
Probably more important than sleeping on a gym floor and a free bag of Taytos that Ireland is offering refugees.

          1. Fearganainm

It was the Brits who offered crisps to Ukrainian refugees before sending them on their way to hunt for non-existent offices, remember?

More than 22,000 of Ukraine’s troops have been trained by the British Army since January as part of Operation Orbital.
Ukrainian troops have surpassed UK/US expectations by stalling the Russian advance, in some places forcing troops to retreat and even launching counter-attacks.
The anti-armour ambushes deployed by Ukrainian forces against the Russians were taught by UK military trainers.
Former Ukrainian President Poroshenko, who invited in the British military trainers could not be more grateful.
“I thank every British instructor who helped me to make Ukraine stronger. The ability to stop Putin is not only our achievement, it’s an achievement for British soldiers, officers who worked shoulder to shoulder with us to prepare Ukraine’s armed forces. The result is impressive”
      You’re welcome.
Talk is easy.Good deeds take more courage.

      1. Fearganainm

22,000 Ukrainian troops trained ‘since January’?

Really? 22,000 was the number alleged to have been trained under Operation Orbital between 2015 and November 2021. Outside Orbital (which had rotating squads of up to 100 trainers at a time) a small number of UK personnel was sent to train Ukrainian troops on anti-tank missiles.

I suspect that you’re incorrect on your ‘since January’ claim.

      2. stephen moran

the same British army who go the poo knocked out them by a bunch of illiterate likely lads on motorbikes with Kalashnikov and a few IEDS in Iraq and Afghanistan and left with their tail between their legs because they’d forgotten the basics of COIN

    3. Dinkum

And the thought of Ukraine joining the EU will finally seal a war between Russia and the EU
OUR NEUTRALITY OF COURSE WILL BE AT ODDS WITH EU LAWS
Unlike WW2 we will be a legitimate target and under PESCO the EU will have an army
Our stratification location regarding supplies from the USA will make Ireland a target and this time no Irish identification on ships sparing us ships spared from torpedo or missiles like WW2
Our ports airports all will be legitimate targets

And for what a basket case of an economy and safe haven for criminal gangs that have hacked our internet including the last on the HSE

    4. K.Cavan

Well, the Zelensky Regime, installed by two CIA-funded coups, wants to join the EU. “Ukraine”, as in the Ukrainian people are very much divided on that subject. Which is why there’s been a war there since 2014.

        1. anti bot

ah go on. tell us more. We’re at danger or invasion because why….? The elected Ukraine leader wears a t shirt, and thereafter the Urkanian people deserved to be killed. What planet are you on?

          1. Vlad X. Novichok

These toady choads hot for Putin boner snot will stomach any and every atrocity (aka boner snot) that they perceive to undermine globalized capitalistic hegemony.

Meaning anything and everything is fair game.

It’s also clear it also gets them hard and the hornier the atrocity, the richer their jizzbank for Toadying and the odd rapey notion about vulnerable Ukrainian widows.

      1. anti bot

Where is the evidence that the elected Ukraine pres was installed by the CIA. go on project. Even it is true does that justify killing thousands of civilians. You have been in the box room all weekend, surely you have some evidence? Go on, surprise us all

    1. stephen moran

the poisonous Pygmy Patel strikes again- sure wasn’t she going to stave us out of it (until the crafty pesky Paddies cunningly found a way to ween themselves off the land bridge -or the braindead Budgen claiming the UK has a “hostage” in Ireland for the talks with the EU in which they “held all the cards” (which turned out to be a pair of deuces) but they were just waiting on that call from the German carmakers). Then of course there was Putra’s mouthpiece the odious Farage and the other Brexit ultras confidently predicting Irexit with glee within weeks – same chaps who said the euro would never last or that Ireland would never be part of it – but here we are 20 years on – they’ve as good a predictive track record as the biolab brigade here – Where’s Jacob Reek Smirk and his sunlit uplands – Perfidious Albion knows the square root of diddly squat about Irish economics or politics – but but but the UK’s is Ireland’s largest trade partner – your dependent on us – yeh right – we do what approx 7% with GB now – yawn – next

      1. TenPin Terry

Mate, it looks to me like you’re suffering from Long Brexit.
        Seek help.
Or accept the truth and change one vowel in your name.
        You know it makes sense.

I heard that the Brits have secured a 5-year contract to sell pork to Chile. Over the five years it’s estimated to be worth £20,000,000. I suppose that you’re delighted?

Mind you, I also heard that tens of thousands of pigs had to be culled last year due to a severe shortage of skilled labour in the UK’s meat sector after Brexit, at a big cost to farmers. Apparently the loss in the first six months of 2021 was around £130,000,000, according to the UK’s National Pig Association. If you whip out your calculator I think that you’ll find that that’s more than six times more than the Chile deal will provide by 2027.

          How marvellous is that?

          1. TenPin Terry

Crikey, I didn’t think Long Brexit was contagious …
I doubt our Ukrainian friends are much concerned at Brexit right now.
Rockets, guns and missiles are what they need.
Blighty has been supplying them since January.
Ireland couldn’t even muster up a full-loaded Nerf gun.
Pipe down Beret Boy™ and leave it to the adults in the room.

          2. GiggidyGoo

….’ thousands of pigs had to be culled last year due to a severe shortage of skilled labour’
Much to the dismay of the Tory Party. Piggate.

          3. Dinkum

Food security is the thing of the future
As this country rushed to be the centre of high tech only now it’s dawning on government that you cannot eat computer chips
For years our agriculture has been sacrificed along with our fishing industry
We only are allowed 5%of the wealth in our waters and talking about water
Our abundance of rain is a resource no one has looked at
In the USA now companies are about to export water from Alaska to India
Instead of spending billions on sea walls we should be constructing channels that can capture all our rainfall that is causing flooding to processing plants at ports and filling up tankers to export this asset to Africa and countries that drought is the biggest threat (sounds mad but as the global climate crises and a war in Ukraine has highlighted we have a rich and fertile land many would be envious of)
In the world rankings Ireland now is the most food secure nation on this planet
They reckon future wars will be regarding food and water not data centres and service industries

        2. stephen moran

Nope just pointing out how inadequate UK politics is – as it seems to have an inexplicable fanbase here of folks who seem to think de Pfeffel and his cabal of kleptocratic grifters are in some way competent – i recall one deluded chap on here saying de Pfeffel “was having a good war”- FFS that’s sub Liddle, Littlejohn or Hitchens weapons grade effluent that even a Daily Excrement columnist would be embarrassed to spout

          1. Dinkum

I remember the doom merchants and soothsayers regarding Britain crippled due to brexit
Seems the UK has faired pretty well post brexit
Boris did compare the freedom of being out of the EU with Ukraine’s decision to find freedom
It was not a reference likening the UK to Ukraine which is at war with Russia
Seems life outside the EU is now looking good for the UK as they are free to expand to other markets without the EU telling them what to do

Now we all wait in Ireland for the dreaded decision that the EU will make as to a basket case economy at war with Russia being accepted by the EU as new member that would put the EU at war with Russia and that includes us as members of the EU
at least the UK Can decide who it goes to war with
We of course do not have that luxury as we are an EU state

          2. anti bot

Read comment above. Conflagration of the death of people with Brexit is beyond thick. congrats you’re up there with the most stupid people on here. of course there will be no rationale come back. just the usual, for thick people.

        3. Fearganainm

I can see why the Brits are so keen on flogging weapons, it’s how they get their bloodstained hands on a lot of their bloodstained money, after all.

But the topography of Ukraine isn’t good for a rural guerrilla war and the fact that miles’ long convoys of Russian armour and support vehicles were able to sit for days largely untouched suggests that Ukrainian air and artillery support capability is somewhat limited. In a slow grind the advantage lies with the Russians and a not unlikely outcome is urban guerrilla warfare somewhere down the road. That calls for a different kind of kit.

I doubt that the Russians will fancy an extended occupation, the shelf life of any puppet collaborators wouldn’t be likely to be very long. High-velocity anti-aircraft missile systems aren’t suitable for stashing in a hide under the stairs so it remains to be seen what kind of value they are.

The Ukrainians are being left to twist in the wind and while selling expensive weaponry to them might seem like a good business opportunity for Brit arms’ dealers it remains to be seen whether such kit will have any lasting effect. Still, the Russians will gladly take any that falls into their hands and they’re old customers too, right?

          1. TenPin Terry

I think they probably prefer the weaponry Boris has been providing them since January rather than Ireland’s store of catapults and white flags.
And the fearsome Cork fishermen …
            Hehx3™

          2. Fearganainm

Is it the same kind of weaponry that they’re flogging to the Saudis to enable them to slaughter kids in Yemen?

          3. Dinkum

You forget we are members of the EU and we facilitate the US army through our airspace and Shannon airport
Germany france and other EU nations are all flogging arms to facilitate death in Ukraine
We also supply equipment to Ukraine
We too by our association have blood on our hands
At least the brits are not hypocritical as to their supplying of arms
We also have no neutrality anymore and when called on by the EU will be sending troops
A neutral country has no role in the UN security council which sanctions wars
But our leadership is doing its best to finally bringing Ireland into a combat role in conflicts and even joining NATO

      2. K.Cavan

Northern Ireland & the Republic were pawns in those negotiations, used cynically by both sides. As an EU fanboy, I assume, seeing it’s the last gasp of European Fascism, you probably chose to ignore that reality, stephen.

We are now entering day 24 of the special military operation to free Kyiv of all its Nazi and liberate those US biolabs in 2 days

    1. SOQ

You have seen the Russian plans then have you?

Russia’s war is clearly not territorial or they would have ihas long before now. And, that they have not bombed those labs should be of more concern not less. If it is proved that the US were funding such bio weapon research- which is looking increasingly likely- that s a Russian PR win way over and above anything else.

      1. anti bot

Good man soq, same old conspiracy nonsense. The righteous Russians are killing people in an independent state to find biolabs that they have yet to find? They must invade and bomb the crap out of everything, kill loads of civilians. really, how intelligent is that? Oh dear their President is wearing a t shirt….? You’re the same idiot denying covid but justifying an invasion of Ukraine to find bs biolabs. When did you lick Trump?

        1. SOQ

I posted an interview on Friday with Col. Douglas Macgregor who was a former top advisor to the US Pentagon. He explains what Russia’s actual plan is and how successful they have been in its implementation so far.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFngc_8RiVc

You probably never bothered your backside watching it because it is much easier to just call people names and throw around idiotic labels and slurs eh?

          1. anti bot

you are right. I don’t bother reading most of the so called expert links you post because all of them are utter crap, just like your posts. let’s face it, all you do is try to get attention. covid is fake, killing of Ukraine people is fake. all the while people are dying. tell us, were the troubles fake, was Aids fake. Did people die. Should we look away?

        2. Dinkum

Since the median square coup led by the far right in Ukraine there has been a civil war and over 25 thousand east Ukrainians killed from 2014 till 2021
I called it a coup because the median square incident toppled the government and Kiev seized power
Since 2014 effectively Ukraine has been at war with its own people fact
And I remember zelensky was a protest vote against the corrupt nature of Ukrainian politics
Seems the past and the troubles that shaped the future has now led Ukraine to war with Russia
There are no saints here but the souls of the dead here

          1. K.Cavan

There was also a coup in 2004, Dinkum, also CIA-funded but the system pigs on here cannot compute all that, it’s complex & hurts their tiny brains.
I reckon they’ll stay with “Putin is eeevilll”, it’s more suitable to their moronic level of comprehension. Of course, they’ll claim Putin is Hitler but then fail to sign up to fight against Hitler. Oh well.

          2. The Millie Obnoxious™

You know, sticking the word ‘fact’ after your half baked theorising doesn’t actually make it fact.

A few years ago Dan Savage challenged his readers to come up with a word to describe “the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex“, they came up with the word “santorum” and the campaign was so successful, Dan’s neologism replaced the actual Senator’s (of that name) entries at the top of Google rankings. Did his security detail go with him paid for by the British taxpayer and of course a full documentary crew as well
      I see it now
David Cameron from BREXIT TO UKRAINE
Then the book deal and the chat show circuit
Maybe he might even be canned at Cannes rather than panned by the British electorate

      1. TenPin Terry

All ex-PMs have taxpayer-funded 24-hour protection for the rest of their lives.
In this case one officer would have travelled in the lorry and there would have been others travelling in a separate support vehicle.
He alludes to another unnamed driver in his video.
As for a full documentary crew all the clips you see are shot on ‘phone, I presume Cameron’s , and uploaded to his Twitter feed.
Cameron has been a volunteer for a local Chipping Norton charity for several years which is rather admirable.
Should he be blamed for this humanitarian endeavour to Poland ?

        1. Dinkum

No he cannot but he could be blamed for brexit by EU fans
But he really should of kept his nose out of it and stopped wasting taxpayers money

          1. TenPin Terry

Why would he be blamed for Brexit ?
He offered a referendum and the people voted in favour of it in the biggest democratic mandate in British history.
And unlike Ireland the Brits weren’t
bounced into a second referendum to overturn the first, despite the best efforts of the Establishment.
As for wasting taxpayers money he is entitled to 24-hour police protection whether he is driving a van full of humanitarian aid to Poland or sat watching telly at home.
The trouble with Brexit Derangement Syndrome which infests this forum is that people allow their emotion to overcome their common sense.
I suspect a lot of the anger is really shame and embarrassment at Ireland’s volte-face with the second Lisbon vote.
Bounced into it by a French crook.
            Morto.

…oh no…the Sunday Express, no less, seems to have broken ranks on the anti-Russia stance by consulting with an ‘expert’ on the missile strike on a Ukranian arms dump in western Ukraine…stating that the missile was sending a message to NATO about its superior power and ability to strike anywhere…RTE in a similar lapse last week carried an interview with a retired aviation army officer who waxed lyrical about the cruise missiles launched from Russia and took out the NATO training facility in Western Ukraine…

    1. V aka Frilly Keane

Ok. Since the resident Britepedian has disappointed……

It looks like Boris is rubbing shoulders with Mohammed bin Salman there in the Sunday Times

Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman
Saudi Arabia Minister for Defense Mohammed bin Salman

      This Mohammed bin Salman

In October 2018 Mohammed orchestrated the extrajudicial killing abroad of Jamal Khashoggi, a prominent journalist and exiled government critic who once served as an adviser and aide to a Saudi ambassador. On Mohammed’s orders, Saudi operatives lured Khashoggi into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, where they tortured and dismembered him. Turkey’s Pres. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan led the outcry against the killing; committed on Turkish soil against a dissident living in exile, it raised international concerns of both state sovereignty and human rights. The fallout was contained as the royal family continued to deflect responsibility for the incident, but Mohammed’s image abroad had been tarnished.

Mohammed once again detained fellow members of the Saudi royal family in March 2020. Said to be under investigation for treason, the detainees included princes much closer to the throne, including King Salman’s brother Ahmad and Muhammad bin Nayef, the former crown prince that Mohammed bin Salman had replaced.

“Increasingly, it is reported that the Ukrainian (Neo-Nazi) Volunteer Battalions, together with the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – have begun the so-called process of :Spring Renewal’ – designed to hide, remove or reduce (on a large scale) any evidence of an individual (or unit) being motivated by far-right political “ideology” expressed through tattoos marked upon the human body. This process is aimed at negating Neo-Nazi insignia as well as common Ukrainian symbols that are linked to German Nazism.”

        1. Dinkum

Seems if the tattoos are this obvious if Russia achieves putins stated goal
These guys are in deep doo do
Time will tell and frankly to think you could beat Russia single-handedly was pretty naive of zelenskyy
My sympathy is with the Ukrainian people that are the victims and are just cannon fodder
          God help them
This war could of been avoided and NATO did nothing but put fuel on the flames
Now thousands dead and millions displaced
War is an atrocity in its self

        2. K.Cavan

The BBC already carried a video segment with plucky (moronic) volunteers being trained to shoot their AKs, by a Ukrainian soldier, clearly wearing an Azov Neo-Nazi insignia.
On the other hand, these soldiers define themselves as neo-nazi & carry Swastikas because the Nazis fought Soviets in WW2 & they hate the USSR & have now transferred this hate to Russia, because of their Ukrainian nationalism.
Applying our norms to this conflict just doesn’t work, it’s complex.

          1. Dinkum

I never thought it would be so easy for another war

ah yes Soq, that’s exactly what they are doing. Your Russia is so good. After all if anyone is a neo nazi in Urkanine they would have a tattoo and try to escape into Russia. These checkpoints totally justify an invasion of a foreign country. Can we invade you nordies because half of Belfast has Union Jack tats. can you not see the hypocrisy and idiotic stance of your comments. when do you get back to Biden?

        1. SOQ

Again you never bothered actually watching that now did you?

At no point did anyone suggest that those checkpoints are only at the Russian border- they are all over the Russian controlled areas of Ukraine.

Any more lazy labels you’d like to shout?

          1. K.Cavan

SOQ, you’ll just wear yourself out, trying to talk sense to Aunty Bot. Read it’s posts, that’s a real dullard, at work.

        2. Dinkum

A Union Jack for a unionist is as normal as an Irish republic flag for a republican
To have a tattoo of it fine
But I see these neo nazi symbols and tattoos are another story
Putin did say his little special operation was to de nazify Ukraine and neutralise the army so I can see why the troops are looking for any identification of terrorist threats bombing Russian cities and killing their citizens
Today we heard that Russians were marching people under gun point and forcing them like Jews into concentration camps on the media

We are getting absolutely no information regarding the Russian position and mood from Russia as the west has banned any Russian media

My question is about the truth of what is happening not propaganda being peddled

          1. Fergalito

“..natural and necessary self-purification..” from the mouth of Putin himself, that champion of human rights, liberty and the right to self determine.

          2. K.Cavan

There’s lots of info coming out, Dinkum, if you know where to look, which is not on Twitter or Youtube. I was watching Russian soldiers going building by building last night, much of the fighting is at that level, now.
The Ukrainian army is mostly in the Cauldron, running low on fuel & ammo, they’ve abandoned their motorized transport & artillery & are down to small-arms combat.
Strategically, the war is over, it’ll be tactically over about the end of April or so.

          3. K.Cavan

You’re right, Ferg, Putun is no more a champion of these things than Trudeau, Biden, Martin or Varadker.

          4. Oro

I disagree on your tattoo point, in that, in a situation where there is a very clear oppressor / oppressed dynamic as it relates to nationalism, I find displays of nationalist things like flags or other items to be far more aggressive when it’s on behalf of the oppressor rather than the oppressed. Same applies to any nation that has a history of imperialism or genocide. I think US / UK nationalism is gross and tacky (because of what it represents to the people still suffering because of the history of what those countries did), whereas Irish nationalism I don’t find as gross. I mean any form of nationalism is a little silly, but it’s in degrees.

      3. Nigel

          1. Nigel

Seems more like he kept poking at Ukraine, then he decided to slaughter its people and destroy the nation. Bet he’s happy with all the pain he’s causing. Or is indifferent to it. Would that be worse?

Ah, ce, The Guardian, the 20th best-selling daily newspaper in the UK, out of 20 daily newspapers in the UK. It’s like those magazines that carry articles claiming a WW2 bomber’s been found in the moon, but for middle-class retards, rather than working-class ones.

    1. K.Cavan

Mariupol, is, as I said in previous posts, where many of the Azov battalions are stationed & they will fight to the death & die, so it will witness the worst fighting. Elsewhere, the Ukrainian Army will surrender, Dinkum.

      1. Dinkum

Yes that makes sense because someone kicked it all off when the bombardments started again just before Putin recognised the breakaway regions

Metropolitan police rebuked for strip searches two years before Child Q case in Hackney:

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/mar/20/met-rebuked-for-strip-searches-two-years-before-child-q-case-in-hackney

“…An official investigation into the girl’s treatment, published on Monday, concluded that the search in December 2020 was “unjustified” and that racism was “likely” to have been a factor. The force was also criticised for its disproportionate use of the tactic on black and ethnic minority suspects…”

      1. Fearganainm

        Back to be corrected?

According to the child safeguarding review, in 2020/21 in the central east basic command unit of the Met (which covers Hackney), 25 children under the age of 18 were strip-searched (or “further searched”) to use Met police terminology). Most of the searches (88%) were negative. And only two of the children searched were white.

        https://chscp.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Child-Q-PUBLISHED-14-March-22.pdf

“Most of the searches (88%) were negative” Even you should be able to understand what that means.

You are to be commended for your efforts to have more material placed here that exposes the racism that blights British society.

    1. K.Cavan

Yeah, British cops were pretty racist in Rochdale & the other 30-odd cities where Pakistani Rape Gangs were active, weren’t they, Ferg? Of course, since they were being racist towards white female rape victims, the media response was, let’s say, muted. That tends to be the case when white Brits are victimised, because the entire British media establishment is deeply racist towards white people.
That little strip-search story, nasty as it is, is a bit pathetic, compared to 30,000 rape victims.

Ukraine suspends 11 political parties with links to Russia:

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/20/ukraine-suspends-11-political-parties-with-links-to-russia

“Eleven Ukrainian political parties have been suspended because of their links with Russia, according to the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The country’s national security and defence council took the decision to ban the parties from any political activity. Most of the parties affected were small, but one of them, the Opposition Platform for Life, has 44 seats in the 450-seat Ukrainian parliament…”

    1. K.Cavan

The problem there, Ferg, is that none of those parties have any links to Russia. The Zelensky Regime has also banned lots of journalists, don’t know what excuse they’re offering up to the naive for that one but I feel sure you’ll fall for it too.
The idea that the Ukrainian government has a “national security & defence council” is rather amusing, since most of the government politicians left for The West in their private jets some time ago. The amounts of money these guys have squirrelled away is impressive, only one has less than a billion. The CIA is very generous with the US tax dollars.

      1. Fearganainm

    2. f_lawless

Shutting down opposition media and banning the largest opposition party and others by diktat, isn’t that the kind of thing Mussolini and Hitler did as they consolidated their power? The Zelensky regime is behaving like a fascist dictatorship. The pretence of democracy has gone out the window.

      1. Nigel

Credit where it’s due, f_lawless has done sterling work in the past painting Assad atrocities as ‘false flag.’ I wonder of all these mass graves they’ve found will turn out to have been put there by NATO.

    2. Nigel

He spends half his time characterising non-Russian coverage as naive, agitprop or Nazi-sympathetic, takes sources from Russian media or Russian-sympathetic social media at face value, everything else is circumstantial and inferential. Nowhere does he ponder the possibility that Russian media might be painting the bombing AS a false flag operation, or, indeed, that they might have done the same in Syria.

          1. bisted

…here Nigel…how come Putin, with all his superior everything doesn’t just zap Ukraine?

      1. f_lawless

I am able to ponder such things Nigel but I’m also able to use my own critical thinking skills based on the available evidence, past and present, and by seeking out the opinions of independent investigative journalists and informed sources – (to give a few examples: Englishwoman Vanessa Beeley who spent several months in Syria and whose extensive research helped expose the UK-backed propaganda operation that was the White Helmets; Canadian Eva Bartlett too, who spent time in both Syria and the war-torn Donbas region of Ukraine; also journalist/film-maker Gonzalo Lira, a Chilean-American national who has been living with his family in Kharkiv, Ukraine since before the conflict broke out).

Unlike you I’m not a hopeless authoritarian who looks no further than compromised western corporate media sources to tell him what to think. Time and time again, you show no signs of scepticism towards the narratives propagated by such sources.

You’re at a point now, where if it’s not a western establishment-approved source, then you’ll just mindlessly dismiss it as Russian disinformation because that’s the most comforting explanation to you.

Oh, and perhaps you’ve been watching too many courtroom dramas, if you think that circumstantial evidence is just something to be frowned upon and ignored.

        1. Fearganainm

To call Vanessa Beeley. Eva Bartlett and Gonzalo Lira ‘independent’ is blatantly dishonest.

A cursory research reveals that all three are noted for pushing a pro-Russia propaganda line and that at least two – Beeley and Bartlett – have been branded as conspiracy theorists.

No surprise to find you enthusiastically endorsing them but that doesn’t speak so well of your attachment to any real ‘independent’ thought.

You’ve ‘picked a side’, that’s all. It isn’t going to be easy for you, given all that you’re going to have to try to spin and deny.

        2. Nigel

‘Time and time again, you show no signs of scepticism towards the narratives propagated by such sources.’

Time and time again you equate me being skeptical about the versions of things you propogate, with me not being skeptical about other versions. That’s dishonest rhetoric, that is.

There’s a difference between frowning on and ignoring, and using it to build your case. That’s more rhetorical dishonesty. You rely on that sort of thing a lot.

Government expects to begin pairing Ukrainian refugees with Irish host families within weeks:

“…The Minister in charge of the accommodation effort, Roderic O’Gorman, said 9,000 Ukrainian people had arrived in Ireland as of Friday and the Government is providing accommodation to roughly half of them “primarily in hotels”. He said it is not yet known how many people are expected to arrive here, but preparations are being made for “tens of thousands” to relocate to Ireland in the coming weeks…”

That story on the front of the Sunday Independent:

“Michael Martin does not expect the country’s most senior health officials to be called as witnesses during an inquiry into the handling of the Covid pandemic…he would not expect Tony Holohan or Paul Reid to be called as witnesses..when a crisis, a once-in-a-hundred-year event – like a pandemic – happens, mistakes will get made. The important thing is to learn from them”.

So there ye have it, seems like the conclusion has already been reached before the inquiry has even started. According to Martin, anything the authorities may have done wrong is to be explained by it being a pandemic and apparently no one is to be held accountable – not those at the top anyway. We won’t be able to officially establish whether medical negligence occurred That’s now out of bounds. There’s no chance of ever getting to the bottom of why certain decisions were made at the most senior level because the relevant individuals aren’t being compelled to attend.

Somehow, I can’t see this inquiry helping us learn from the costly mistake of allowing our public health services to become so subverted by political and corporate vested interests.

      1. f_lawless

true, but the last two years took it to new heights (or depths, I should say ) and should be serving as a wake up call – if only their wasn’t so much gaslighting of the public going on
