Five Grand Stereo – Dancing Mary
Come dance with me in Dublin.
Five Grand Stereo pay tribute to one of the last true characters of the Fair City: Mary Dunne aka Mad Mary, who in decades past could be seen dancing and praying on O’Connell Street.
Written by singer Chris Singleton, the song was recorded in London during lockdown and is released by Brown Paper Records/Style Factory.
The video is by Jonny Pollard.
Lads, how about a double album about Bang Bang?
Nick says: A holy show.

I remember her well
Looking up at the stars, I know quite well
That, for all they care, I can go to hell,
But on earth indifference is the least
We have to dread from man or beast.
How should we like it were stars to burn
With a passion for us we could not return?
If equal affection cannot be,
Let the more loving one be me.
Admirer as I think I am
Of stars that do not give a damn,
I cannot, now I see them, say
I missed one terribly all day.
Were all stars to disappear or die,
I should learn to look at an empty sky
And feel its total dark sublime,
Though this might take me a little time.

I remember her she just shone and I always thought if the world had one tenth of what she was on then we might have a happy planet
I am not religious but there was something almost godly shining in her soul
Only god and herself will ever know if indeed there is a god
At least she is remembered and maybe if she knew she would be chuffed
But Dublin before the Celtic tiger was full of characters
Christopher daybell reciting poetry Pete short selling in Dublin hot press
The little guy from Galway who played the accordion with a voice that shrilled maninix Flynn on a bender the flower ladies the old Moore street traders and old Mary with cerebral palsy at the side of Bewleys not to mention my mate Michael selling news papers outside Bewleys the dice man
All gone replaced by insipid people all glued to social media
