David Langwallner: Would This Be A Convenient Moment?

at

David Langwallner

This afternoon.

All rise.

Objection!

Overruled. Bailiff, restrain that man.

David Langwallner writes:

‘It has been a great privilege to write for Broadsheet for the last number of years and the site has shown great faith in me and published some of my pieces which were liked very much and are of my more popular works, but which other outlets I write for would not publish.

That is because the Overton Window has shifted to negate criticism and the press either internally censors or corporately censors or now, with the proposed bill in Ireland of criminalising offence, has censorship imposed upon it.

It is unpopular views that most need airing and, although I do not believe covid was a conspiracy, the suppression of human rights alongside a hyped-up emergency and the shifting of assets to a plutocratic and pharmaceutical elite, were clear for all to see.

Broadsheet‘s defence of the underdog is remarkable and the defence of a kind of old world civic decency that did exist in Ireland and to some limited extent still does, Their hatred of official corruption and the persecution and prosecution of the innocent was also very much to the fore.

And Official Ireland is beneath contempt.

We can agree to disagree about other issues. what is certain is that a great forum for public discussion along with others are being closed and these are worrying dark times. The dying of the light of public discourse.

Au revoir not au bientot.

        +1

And thank you David for your enlightening pieces – even the ones I had to read a couple of times and consult a dictionary for LOL!
I think ill be popping into CassandraVoices for more.
        Thanks again,
        Clamps

          +1 +1 +1…

Thank you David for your articles over the last two years of broadsheet, always engaging and enlightening.
The ‘tomorrow – tonight – this morning’ discussion videos with John during lockdowns added an extra tangibility to your perspectives… So Kudos John for that.

My better half would also like to express her gratitude to David not just for his essays but for his book references which she has been actively seeking out, tracking down and absorbing.

Also, she wishes to say a massive thank you to John and Broadsheet for doing what the sheet does best, offering a counterpoint to the official hymn sheet.
Although it’s curtain call, from the cheap seats we both say Encore! Encore!… :-)

Though I am pro vac I do believe our constitution was stamped on and as the data emerges the truth dose
      I have had three jabs
I got covid 19 and it was a dead ringer to the so called Japanese flu floating around December 2019
I could not get tested anywhere when I was suspicious that the Japanese flu was covid but low and behold when I did get covid 19 the symptoms were exactly the same and I was tested positive
Before I had the vaccine I had it and it was nearly unbearable but I got over it
I am not taking another jab and I am sure my Tcells will fight any other covid infection I might get

It’s strange the government cannot protect its citizens from the new covid which is currently gouging the whole country apparently it’s come from Ukraine/Russia and is going to be more lethal as the biggest side effect is poverty
I suppose a shot of the excess VAT and duty the government is getting from the gouging would go along way towards solving this new malaise

    Well said m’learned friend.
The very worst thing of all is how many people on here were prepared to condone and excuse Official Ireland.
And how many former posters have come out of the woodwork to condemn Broadsheet for not doing so.
The Brits, then the Church and now the EU have between them created a compliant and submissive population willing to accept any amount of suppression of their personal liberty.
I’ve spend a lot of time on here urging Paddy to get off his knees – sadly I think that’s where he’s most comfortable and where he’ll likely stay.
    ‘Twas ever thus.™

Hi Papi – this edited post is much better than your original version which if I may say so was a little whiney amd self-indulgent.
You spent a very long time abusing me and many other people at every opportunity.
Such a shame you bottled it at the first sign of incoming.
        From Bodger of all people.
Grow a thicker skin you chump and don’t give out if you can’t take it.
        No-one likes a sniveller.

Papi I have missed you around, hope you are doing well and all the best for the future

It’s been a blast, loved having a chat and making sure changer charger knows it’s better to be us than whatever it thinks it is. Pip to pip to the pip.

He’s not fit to lick your boots, although he will if you let him.
Take it easy papi, mind how you go.

  2. TenPin Terry

    Poor Papi.
I could have sworn he put up a post here but rapidly deleted it.
Still looking for the toys to put back in his pram I’d vouchsafe.
    The old dose.

        ‘ You’ll never happiness ‘ ?
The rope-a-dope is swinging wildly now.
Time to throw in the towel methinks.

      2. TenPin Terry

Crikey Papi – what’s with all the self deletions ?
It’s hard to keep up with a feller who is so unsure of himself.
I tell you what – there’s not many hours left so why don’t we just call a truce and accept we both enjoyed and used Broadsheet in different ways ?
For what it’s worth I do think it’s noble of you to come back from self-imposed exile and make your peace with Bodger and the gang. It’s the sign of a good man.
Life is too short to act otherwise.

        1. Papi

          When you’re explaining, you’re losing.

Oh chngauffer, tonights tearful five knuckle shuffle is going to be exceptionally lonesome and greasy.

          Again.
          Aw.

          I meant that. Aw.

It’s only a warm-up for the World Cup really.
          Four more games before Qatar.
Oops, there I go again mentioning the world cup.

100% David. This isn’t the end of Bodger and Co. There will be a rebirth sometime.

A “hyped-up emergency” that also saw children’s welfare and their future sacrificed to keep old people (i.e., FFG voters) safe.

    Sow the wind.

  8. Ian - oG

Thanks for some quite original, refreshing takes and a real talent for writing, best of luck David.

  9. Gabby

Au revoir means see you again. Broadsheet could return in a reincarnated form, with some different people involved. The right to air unpopular opinions needs to be upheld, but there is a corresponding right for knowledgeable individuals to refute unpopular opinions grounded on false reasoning.

  10. galaxiapolizia

Always a pleasure to read your insightful articles D.L. Thank you!
(Jacques Verges would be very proud of you, sans doute.)
A “New Dark Age”? Looking ominous, alas!
Needs more beacons of light like yourself, Bodger & Broadsheet!
    A bientot, j’espere…

  11. scottser

Thanks for all your efforts David, they were always thought provoking and funny. An awful shame we won’t get to read any more.
    Cheers.

    1. TenPin Terry

I’m sure if the brief was sufficiently remunerated you’d be in like a ferret up a drainpipe.
With all due respect to m’learned friend.

  12. Tom

I’ve written critical comments about some of your contributions David but that’s a fine, succinct post to finish with. Bravo. Viva le débat.

  13. Lilly

Auf Wiedersehen, David. I see you and JR starting a podcast in the not-too-distant future. You know it makes sense.

  14. eamonn

    david, thanks.
i have always enjoyed your pieces, often needing to read them more than once.
Always left with something to think over.

    1. anti bot

hey David, explain why official Ireand closed BS. surely it was the constant conspiracy loons who were anti everything including vax, pro Trump, pro invasion of sovereign nations, allowed people to be called retards, all for click bait. oh and Gemma. All pushed people away. nowt to do with being anti establishment. just a failed website that took the wrong path.

  15. Nigel

‘It is unpopular views that most need Sometimes views are unpopular for very good reasons. They don’t need to be aired at all. Sometimes unpopular views that do need to be aired get drowned out by people shouting that bad unpopular views are the ones that deserve to be aired.

  16. Chris

Fair play David. “And Official Ireland is beneath contempt.” indeed it is – beyond the scope of tribunals, investigations etc. A tightly knit criminal coterie that have each others backs by stitching up every body that could hold them to account.
