Concession Stand

Joe Biden (left) and Donald Trump

This afternoon.

Via CNN:

Biden is taking calls with leaders of the country’s top allies and appearing on camera, which reflects the inevitability of his ascent to power. Meanwhile the President is staying behind closed doors, tweeting in wild block capital letters and unleashing a purge of the Pentagon’s civilian leadership in what one current defense official called “dictator moves.” And William Cohen, former Secretary of Defense and Republican senator, told CNN’s Don Lemon the administration’s conduct is “more akin to a dictatorship than a democracy.”

Pennsylvania is ground zero for President Trump’s efforts to establish that he won the 2020 presidential race with all legal votes counted. While it is not the only state where Trump is contesting the results, without Pennsylvania, he has no viable path to a majority in the Electoral College.

Lawyers for Trump’s reelection team have raised several issues with how the commonwealth conducted the 2020 election, alleging voter fraud, a two-tiered system for mail-in and in-person voting, a lack of meaningful access for Republican poll watchers, and the acceptance of ballots after Election Day in violation of Pennsylvania election law.

Meanwhile…

Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar revealed  that roughly 10,000 mail-in ballots were received between when the polls closed on Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. and Friday at 5 p.m., the time window considered a grace period after a controversial state Supreme Court ruling.

Many of the 94,000 provisional ballots also mentioned by the Democratic official are still being counted, according to PennLive.com, and 49,000 ballots cast by mail and arrived before polls closed have yet to be tallied.

    A bloody garden centre!
    Beside an adult book store!
    And a crematorium!
    A ‘witness’ who’s a convicted sex offender!
The outgoing president’s lawyer on film with his hands down his pants!

    More I say, more!

The legal filings are something else, though. One complaint had an observer get suspicious because so many military mail-in ballots were going for Biden. It’d be funny if they weren’t trying to overturn an election.

In one case a poll worker said she received allegations of fraud on a post-it from a poll worker whom she could not name or identify. You could not make this stuff up.

    2. Junkface

They could all have been preparing for this nonsense over a month ago, knowing Trumps position on mail in voting. Knowing that he would call everything voter fraud if he lost. I’m afraid eye witness accounts are useless, fantastical accounts. Without hard evidence, video evidence, falsified documents, all of this will be chucked out of court. This is just a colossal waste of time, directed by a deranged narcissist, causing more division in society and maybe leading to shootings in the streets. Trump loves chaos.

      well he could hardly say

      Champ Champ wake up Champ

      ~~>___<~~

the qs wouldn't be a bit able for that
They'd be all sorts of bawling and crying and praying
thinking Trump was knocked off that

I know I’ve posted on this before but I remain curious about all this jubilation that he has “lost”. Is it because he’s an objectionable person or because he was a bad President for America? I don’t have any great interest in American politics so I don’t know. Personally I’m just glad of the break in Covid related news heaviness. I mean over 70 million (seventy!) people voted for him, he got 8 million more votes this time than last so presumably he was doing something right?

I think it’s so charming you have no interest in US politics Hats. You should keep it like that – you’re missing nothing. Good luck to you,

      1. wearnicehats

        wow – great answer

Nobody votes for a candidate based on their foreign policy – just what’s in it for them. 71 million americans felt that Trump had more to offer than them than Biden. As odious as he is personally I find Trump perversely more trustworthy than Biden

          1. wearnicehats

I’ve really no great interest in American politics. I do have an aversion to an American president who is so enamoured with Irish Republicanism. So I don’t like him. My curiosity is whether or not Trump was actually good for America regardless of his personality – primarily because he was so insular. 71 million Americans seemed to think so.

He was perceived to be fighting the corrupt Washington system, by the voters and supporters he screwed over the most. There is evidence that the Black and Latino communities did better under Trump financially, at least for small businesses. He was right on China stealing technology too.

In his fight against corruption though, he hired the most corrupt grifters from wall st. for his cabinet. There is also a large cult following. Trumpism is a cult. People will vote firmly for their cult leader.

America is THE no.1 country for cults too, historically speaking.

          Hope Biden doesn’t get Bitten
(I was considering a Kamala/Kramer thing, but couldn’t get it to work)

    Dear SATAN,

Why did you not make the Russians help Trump win the US elections this time?
Did you make the Russians help Joe Biden instead?
Even when it was the Americans deciding it, we knew it was the Russians.

I maintain what I’ve been saying for the past 4 years. Trump will raze that country to the ground to get his way.

He’s a maniacal megalomaniac and lord knows where he’ll actually take this.

One thing is for sure, America is a state failing before our eyes.

    1. newsjustin

The US is certainly right at the edge of falling down a hole. Unless their institutions can stand up to this from Trump and – more impprtantly – his enablers.

The next Republican president will be one of the following:
    Don junior
    Tucker Carlson
    Tom Cotton
    Joe Rogan*
    *I joke.
    Or a Libertarian/Tea Party/Southern Baptist hybrid of all 4.
If you indicate left and turn right, don’t be surprised with the outcome in future elections.
Looking at you too Irish Green Party.
    We see you.
    PD’s on bikes.

    1. Junkface

Next Republican president will be Donald Trump. The cult will be too strong, especially after 4 years of Trump TV and Qanon.
America is crumbling under the weight of decades of corruption and neglect.

      1. Papi

Endorsement from you is a definite nail in the coffin.
Anyway, were you brave enough to wear the dead man’s poppy today?
        Did you fluck.

        1. Charger Salmons

          Every year.
Usual a small metal red one as I find anything bigger a little ostentatious and I don’t really have outfits to match them with.
But recently I’ve taken to wearing a white poppy.
I’ve never been one to glorify the Empire as it ended before I was born.
And indeed some of Blighty’s ill-judged military aventures of yore deserve a re-evaluation in a modern context.
But the fundamental intention of the annual Remembrance Day is to raise money for members of the armed forces who’ve fallen on hard times.
And like all charities fund-raising for the Royal British Legion has been badly by Covid-19 so I was delighted the President and Taoiseach joined this year’s commemorations.
You might do well to bone up a bit on modern European history and the vital role played in it by thousands of brave Irish people who gave their lives to overcome tyranny.
If you’re not too busy masquerading as a jackass.

          1. Papi

Honestly just thought you’d be too much of a coward, but hey go you if you’re actually telling the truth, which I doubt.
            Pip pip!

      1. Nigel

There is no legal, democratic or mathematical way for this to happen. Biden has won by a landslide. You’re cheering lies and demagoguery.

        1. newsjustin

          I agree with Nigel.

The real play here is to wear down the institutions of the US and the resilience of civil society to resist these attempts at disrupting the normal course of the democratic process and the good faith that has been built up around them. To keep agitating long enough to sow civil unrest and convince people that they can have no faith in the institutions of state. If they don’t succeed this time, it at least wears down the resistance for the next time.

What Trump and his enablers in most of the Republican Party, strands of the media and civil society are doing here is VERY DANGEROUS.

Trump’s campaign dismissed its own appeal from the Nevada Supreme Court on Tuesday so it could settle .

NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE as of 12 am ET:
    Biden 77,320,380 (51%)
    Trump 72,221,116 (47%)

    CBS NEWS PROJECTION:
    Biden 279 electoral votes
    Trump 217 electoral votes

    STILL UNDECIDED:
    AZ / GA / NC

The judge in Nevada asked them twice straight out if they were alleging fraud and both times they said “No”.

  9. scottser

    jesus, voight is a nutter.
anyway, if they stopped voter suppression they wouldn’t have this problem.

  10. gringo

I get it now. Democrats are angels and Republicans are devils. The age-old battle of good versus evil. Just like a Hollywood fairy-tale. Rudi was offered a happy ending recently, near a parking lot, but decided The Beast should live to fight another battle. It may be a blockbuster sequel.
