Great Gig Memories.
Punk concert stories.
From the Hope Collective
Andy Pipkin writes:
Wondering if you can give this book a plug in time for Christmas…These guys [Hope Collective] were responsible for bringing bands to Ireland in the 80s and 90s including the memorable Green Day in the Attic (on George’s Quay), how the floor upstairs in the venue didn’t collapse? and Babes In Toyland in The Cat And Cage (Capel Street). And who could forget, May 10, 1995 Venue: Ormond Multimedia Centre. Fugazi came to Dublin too play and it was a hot but cracking gig!

The Cat and Cage is in Drumcondra, surely.
True Rob, but there was a Cat & Cage on Capel St. many years ago.
Ah I see – I am but a callow youth compared to some other posters.
The gig was upstairs in the Fox and Pheasant, off Capel St as far as I remember. It was a wild one, it felt like the floorboards might give way.. At one point during the set, the lead singer got hit in the mouth with her microphone from the crowd overflowing onto the tiny stage. The band then stopped the show and asked everyone to take a step back. I remember using one of the sofas as a springboard to go crowd surfing. Naughty me. I also remember one guy spending the whole gig lying down at the feet of the lead singer like he was acting out some submissive sexual fantasy. It takes all sorts!
