The wax continued to rule all in 2016, as 3.2m LPs were sold last year in Britain, outstripping the number of downloads and matching streaming revenue.

This is the format’s best year since its initial decline became apparent in 1991, and a 52% increase on 2015’s total UK LP sales, according to the BPI.

Why? Apparently, it’s down to two things: the migration of older former enthusiasts and ‘young people’ driven to own the physical record after discovering music on streaming services.

These new vinyl collectors are the worst. They are basically people who decorate their rooms with “Eat Drink Love” designs.

Yes, every single one of them decorate their rooms in that fashion. I am one of the new vinyl collectors and I can’t specifically say why I do it other than I really like it. It has me listening to full albums again and not skipping tracks half way trough to hear another song.

Much and all as I like them, I don’t think vinyl record sales came close to “matching streaming revenue”.
