File Photo Convicted drug dealer John Gilligan has lost his Supreme Court appeal to hold onto his assets.
The Supreme Court decided on the case taken by Gilligan and members of his family over the freezing of some of their assets on the grounds that they were acquired with the proceeds of crime. He is trying to stop the Criminal Assets Bureau selling three properties. Gilligan and his family claimed they did not get a fair hearing when his assets were frozen by the State in 1996.  They say subsequent court rulings were flawed or invalid. The assets included the Jessbrook equestrian centre in Enfield in Co Meath as well as other property owned by his wife, Geraldine, daughter Tracy and son, Darren. End. 13/9/2013. Would it not be a better idea for the State to retain the facility and turn it into an international quality state of the art, all purpose leisure and educational sporting facility, dedicated to murdered journalist Veronica Guerin?
