Father Flannery’s Flannel

at

There has been some sympathy expressed for Redemptorist priest Father Tony Flannery (above) in light of the Vatican’s attempt to silence him over his support of women’s ordination and Church teaching on sexuality.

A voice of enlightenment from the priesthood supporting teh wimmin and teh gays, you say?

What does he have to say about clerical abuse victims?

The common assumption today is that the experience of sexual abuse does almost irreparable damage to a child, which will impact on their whole life. It would appear to be classified as the worst form of abuse. But can we be sure of that? How does one measure the damage done to a child by one form of neglect or abuse more than another?

Oh.

Does it strike anybody that it is a bit strange that we are devoting so much time, money and energy to inquiring into the abuse of children half a century ago when there is so much that is unsavoury in the lives of children today?

Ah.

The other obvious anomaly, beginning to be highlighted by some commentators, is that all the inquiries are into the behaviour of Catholic Church institutions and people, even though their abuse, dreadful as it was, is only a tiny fraction of all the abuse of children that happened in the past.

Well, two out of three ain’t bad.

Rite and Reason and Reality. Tony Flannery C.S.S.R. Redemptorist (Marie-Thérèse O’Loughlin, Goldenbridge39)

I hope he has the maturity of his convictions and leaves. He’s become too accustomed to the comforts offered to him by the laity. Good riddance. Crimes against the faith are more serious than crimes against the person.

We all hope he super glues himself to your back and sings Calvinist psalms out of tune all the dodaday.

Don’t hide your light under a bushel ABM, here’s what you said the last time you commented on this topic:

“Crimes against the faith are in a more serious bracket than sex abuse. Such crimes cannot and will not be tolerated.”

    3. Arbs

ABM are you actually serious? “Crimes against the faith are more serious than crimes against the person”. I’ll stop reminding you of your anal fixation, just for this evening but didn’t you write last year that I should “go off and get Aids and die”. Your own skewed brand of faith is interesting as it is warped but of your own self-delusion is not only risible but gargantuan in proportion. You are one screwed-up wretched sod. Nightly troll!

Lets see what he has to say about the report on the Magdalene Laundries due out next month.

That will be huge if there is any common sense left in this country.

Busy preparing a response so as to maximise the amount of anti-catholic hatred you can stir up off the back of abuse victims, are you? Your sick agenda is not wanted in this country.

        Hi Abortion Before Marriage,

as always, thanks for your comments. Is there no beginning to your wisdom..

      2. cluster

‘Your sick agenda is not wanted in this country.’ Quite a definitive statement, have you anything to back this up?

I hadn’t realised that Zyncs had a specifically anti-Catholic agenda but I would like to offer my full support.

Im not really sure how you can accuse anyone of having a ‘sick agenda’ considering you view child rape as a less serious crime than a priest publicly disagreeing with the vatican.

If you are representative of catholics then hatred would be an understandable reaction, though pity would be more apt.

You don’t seem to understand the thinking behind crimes against the faith being more serious than crimes against the person.

Anyway, no doubt the paper of broken record (sorry, the guardian.ie) has already penned most of the articles RE: the Magdalene launderies. They’re just waiting to polish their articles with omitted facts, skewed opinion, half-truths and holier-than-thou condescension.

“You don’t seem to understand the thinking behind crimes against the faith being more serious than crimes against the person.”

And I dont think Im alone. It’s incomprehensible to the non-psychopathic portion of the population.

ABM, don’t be talking of newspapers – they are not for you, just like being normal, healthy and socially functional. Good luck with the crazy though, you’re playing a blinder!

        What country would that be?
I’m looking forward to the inevitable YD jihad. Should be lols.

      5. Arbs

“Sick agenda” – this from the anally fixated troll that is ABM! Snortle! ABM, your self-delusion knows no bounds! In terms of hatred, you are only surpassed by a frothing psychopath. I imagine your reality is probably more pedestrian, borne out of social disadvantage and isolation. Things aren’t probably working out that well for you, but seriously, your just a tad screwed-up. Still, it is nice to see you taking an interest outside of your general obsession with all things gay sex. You do know a lot about the sin and not enough about the sinner though. Still, it’s progress I guess!

Is he saying that clerical abuse is no worse than abuse at the hands of the laity?

I think that’s not a wholly unreasonable position. Or even that controversial an opinion tbh. Maybe I’ve misread him.

  4. Kdoc

He’s a creep – with or without his dog collar. Does he really think that forcing an erect penis into a young child’s anus will result in no long-term psychological damage? Maybe he can imagine a worse form of abuse, but I can’t.
It’s not at all strange to devote resources into child abuse 50 years ago (or today). By understanding how we allowed to that abuse to happen will make it less likely to happen again. Nor is it strange that we there’s more focus on the abuse conducted by clergy — given the power and position they held in our society.

  5. ABM

He’s been stirring up division and deceiving souls for many years now. Indeed, he’s got quite a band of merry well-meaning followers who have been led up a dark alleyway. The Vatican have given him many opportunities to change and this time: they’ve simply had enough.

Flannery likens himself to the martyrs — an insult to those who died for the Truth.

    1. Arbs

ABM are you actually serious? “Crimes against the faith are more serious than crimes against the person”. I’ll stop reminding you of your anal fixation (you permit me a little ROFL at the “dark alleyway” comment), just for this evening but didn’t you write last year that I should “go off and get Aids and die”. Your own skewed brand of faith is interesting as it is warped but of your own self-delusion is not only risible but gargantuan in proportion. You are one screwed-up wretched sod. Nightly troll! But for the love of all things divine, stay away from dark alleyways – particularly the virtual ones you are apt to visit quite regularly!

  6. Tickle

    Please don’t.
The more ABM posts the more chance there is they will end up pissing off the wrong person who will have the chance to unveil them in court.
