St Brigid’s ward of St Patrick’s hospital in Waterford was closed by Mary Harney, in true Joseph Heller manner, on the grounds that it “would not pass” HIQA standards.

Ned Thardley, 86, above, promised to give us some sage advice and anecdotes about the ‘olden days’ in exchange for this mention and a packet of Werther’s Originals. Our pleasure, Ned.
