Thursday January 22: Denise Ryan Fundraiser: Leaders of Men, Cry Monster Cry, Hawklion and Bairbre Anne @ Whelan’s, Camden Street, Dublin (€10)

Nialler9 writes:

Denise Ryan is a sufferer of “Lyme disease, pneumonia, Epstein-Barr virus, gastroparesis, chronic gastritis, candida, strep and clostridia infections, among other things” and the four bands above will hopefully add to the €30k fund for Denise’s treatment at a clinic in the US on Thursday. Donations are also welcome if you can’t make the event.

Lyme disease however is a widely -recognised medical condition. Probably pays to read the article, even though its very unclear on the point.

I did, and I read her Go Fund It page.

“It is at a clinic in the US, but it’s very expensive, due to the complexity of the cases they deal with. Treatment would involve months of IV medication, nutrients and other therapies”

        – non-specific treatments at an unnamed, expensive clinic in US makes it sound like this girl and the very good people who are trying to help her are being duped.

That’s quite a statement to make based on a balanced question backed up with documentary evidence as to why the question is genuine.

Actually, sorry, having read the article I realise chronic Lyme disease is different from actual Lyme disease.

The woman has a raft of horrible health problems and is dealing with them the best she can, probably exploring all avenues open to her. She is asking for donations, not holding anybody at gunpoint or levying a tax. You can decide to go to the gig or not, and get an evening’s music for your tenner. It’s still not the general public’s business which clinic she is attending, which doctor she is seeing or which treatment she is undergoing. If Ireland had a proper universal healthcare system she would be seeing a doctor in her own town at no cost.

Then don’t fund it. Sit back and do nothing while other good people do something. I’m sure she wouldn’t want your money anyway
