I remember the news late on the Sunday night that he had AIDS; woke up following morning and he’d died. A few years later it’s possible he’d have been able to live with the disease. Funny thing – part of me thinks that Freddie would have been crap at being 70, but at the same time…himself and Miriam Margolyes trying to out-do each other on Graham Norton’s sofa would’ve been cracking telly.

Also, he’d have stopped Brian and Roger weeing all over the band’s reputation.

Oh my God! 25 years ago! I remember sitting in Mechanical drawing class in school when the news came in. Grew up with 70’s Queen albums and Freddie was the first gay icon for a lot of kids, without even knowing he was gay for ages. It didn’t make a difference as he was everybodies favourite in that band. Showstopping raw talent.
