Off the heels of the news that the UK Official Charts Company will be taking over the running of the various music sales charts in Ireland,..
…is the frankly much better news that sales from bandcamp.com, the main online music delivery service utilised by a vast majority of independent artists and labels in Ireland, will be counted as part of the overall tally on a weekly basis.
This is massive news for independent & DIY Irish artists and labels despite the fragmentation of the music market and the resultant changes in relevance the charts have undergone.

yay! that’s absolutely brill news – i’ve bought so much music direct from the artists that way, they get the money directly and i get access to unsigned acts who would otherwise be difficult to source.
Generally terrible acts though. The Irish Independent music scene is shocking.
So many lads in beanies with out of tune acoustic guitars.
General rule, if you’re unsigned it’s because you’re not good enough to be signed. I’ll stick to what I know.

This is decent news. Babdcamp are still quite extortionate to artists though.
Compared to what? I was under the impression that Bandcamp had one of the best payment shares of the online platforms, hence its popularity with independent acts.

Decent music has always been out there, but increasingly difficult to find among the fake populist / tabloid / X-Fuctor / regurgitation / money, money, money / botox / celebrity / skimpy-clothing / money, money, money and more money situation we are in.
