If a building is listed it doesn’t matter who owns it. Don’t know if this was or not.

It’s strange that we place restrictions on what can be done to a listed building but we don’t do anything to stop people allowing them to fall apart through negligence.

Gerry, hate to break it to you but the building in question, was not listed and had no protection of any sort!

Why is it a shame? 120 year old buildings are not necessarily of architectural, historical or cultural importance.

Is there a reason that this one should be preserved?

Maybe they should have asked Dubin CC in the course of their planning application, which they didn’t bother with.

Exactly. While preserving buildings of historical and cultural importance is critical, to start trying to preserve everything and anything just because its ‘old’ is utter nonsense. Its a 120 year old protestant church with little or no significant value in its current state.

Happened in my home town too with an old mill that was listed. Demolished on a Friday evening of a May bank holiday. Nothing was done about that illegal demotion either.

People know they can get away with it. Feckers.

        Carrigaline? Same thing happened there.

Actually I’m sure it was a pretty common Celtic Tiger occurrence.

It will be replaced by some shitbox apartments to maximise profits, that some of you can’t see why a beautiful (albeit abused even prior to demolition) building couldn’t have had at least its façade retained while allowing changes to internal layout or use probably explains why this was allowed at all.

No doubt at the time there were people agreeing with De Valera’s plan to demolish Merrion Sq because it wasn’t Irish enough. Sure knock them all, they’re old and draughty!
