Due to a genetic trait known as ‘fibromelanosis‘, everything about the rare Indonesian Ayam Cemani chicken is black: plumage, beak, legs, feet, tongue, organs, bones and meat.
Everything except its blood, which is red. Very dark red.
They retail for €1,900 each.

tasty
You’ll never go back.
That’d make for a very expensive box of McNuggets.
Not really, seeing as McNuggets are made with waste chicken anyway.
So there´s no waste on this chicken? Mmmmmmm, mc nuggets…..
Very cool
we do eat with our eyes too (Not literally I KNOW), but I wouldn’t be able to sit down to a dinner with lovely mash potatoe, some veg, and a big black chicken breast!! rotten.com
How would you know when it’s cooked?
When the juices run clear. I’m guessing the fat isn’t black? Dunno.
Internal temperature, the same way you tell with any other chicken…
I feel a Dept. junket to Indonesia coming on.
They breed black chickens in England – they’re called Silkies. Apparently they’re full of flavour and breed easily but the supermarkets can’t order in decent quantities until their customers get used to the black skin. It’s like apartheid for poultry out there.
Silkies are also tiny compared to normal size chickens. They have silk-like hairs as opposed to feathers and blue earlobes. Very broody breed will often sit on a nest even if there’s no eggs under her. Great for hatching out other eggs. Black skin and bones as well as an unusual 5 toes on each foot! Can buy them for €10-€15 at a poultry meet
i used to have white silkies, ornery f*cking things they were too!
Black cock.
hen party
Took a while for someone to get there.

Got a Black Magic Chicken (Santa-na)
But, can they say “I’m Cluckman, I mostly come in black, but sometimes an off grey” in a deep Christian Bale voice?
They’d want to for that price.

Not great layers, it seems; 80 eggs a year.
I used to have silkie araucana crosses, adorable, sweet-natured little loves that laid blue eggs.
Just curious….are chickens like cattle; some are bred solely for dairying (laying in this case), some for slaughter?
I like this comment because I can almost tell your tone of voice by it. im guessing you sound something like sarah millican. but i think you might look like the child catcher from chitty chitty bang bang. Lollipops!
Metal Chicken. Dig it.
That’s not black. It’s just really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really dark blue.
Coileach gorm?
Blaaaaack black-black-black-black-black. Blaaaaaack black-black-black-black-black.
….which sounds really racist now that I look at it….
A “generic trait”? Glad to see the big pharmaceuticals aren’t making money from this one…no name brand black chickens are JUST as tasty and JUST as full of protein as those other more “WELL KNOWN” brands!
Yikes! Thanks Rob.
