Looks like critics of the Turn Of The Red Light campaign have real empirical evidence to support their position. Its about time similar research was done here.

The organisations campaigning for this law to be changed claim they want to eliminate trafficking. The fact that most of those organisations have a moral objection to prostitution means they won’t consider the most effective way to prevent trafficking (regulation of the sex industry in legal brothels) and instead push for the so-called Swedish model which pushes the sex trade deeper underground and into the hands of criminal gangs who are more likely to traffic and exploit women. New Zealand, a country with a lot more in common to us than Sweden, decriminalised and regulated prostitution in 2003. This resulted in massive falls in HIV and trafficking, but we hear nothing about it because it doesn’t push the real agenda behind the so-called turn off the red light campaign.

Or, as long as they have a cameraphone in the vicinity of the deed, they can claim they’re making Q Desir 2 (and probably seek a grant from the Irish Film Board).
