The Stena Europe in Fishgaurd [southwest Wales] on Saturday…returned to Rosslare [Co Wexford] after 26 hours at sea….proper gnarly…!!
Update:
The car deck aboard Stena Europe
Via Rosslare Maritime Enthiusiats:
The Stena Europe left Rosslare Harbour on Saturday morning and should have arrived in Pembrokeshire Saturday lunchtime. It is understood that a number of foot passengers were “able” to disembark before conditions worsened. According to reports a mooring rope snapped forcing the vessel to leave the port before car and freight traffic could off load. Sea conditions were described as very rough entering Fishguard Harbour and the ship listed heavily. A passenger on board Rob Vincent said.. “Approaching Fishguard Harbour the ship rolled valiantly to port causing a lorry (above) to collapse on the lower deck”

I returned back on that boat two years ago In March. it was a crazy experience
Come again?
I love a ship rolling valiantly!
Can people not write properly in their own language anymore?
…nil
“Níl”, surely?
Who’s Neil?
That hippy on The Young Ones.
I’ve been on a ferry that got stuck in a storm before heading to France many moons ago. Not a pleasant experience. Never seem so much vomit flowing around a floor before.
“Rosslare maritime Enthusiasts” thats the real story here….
That’s not an actual truck. It’s a ‘tugmaster’ which moves trailers. The 5th Wheel was more than likely up higher than a normal truck and so caused an imbalance.
Tugmaster, eh?
Suppose it takes one to know one.
+5th wheel
…is like a spare hand.
‘Got stuck on the old Inishfallen back in the day of packed lunches and flasks. T’was too stormy to dock safely in either Cork or Swansea.
By the 10 hour I was nearly ‘ating the carpet with the starvation, anyway all the underage alone passengers were moved to the cinema and fed and minded etc. I’ve never seen so much gawk in all my life. And I’ve been to the Edinburgh Hogmanay ….
Finally docked about a day later
Christ, sounds grim. I spent the best part of a day in a light ferry between the Channel Islands of Jersey and Sark on a journey that should have taken about an hour. By the time we docked no-one, including the crew, had anything left to purge. The unholy state of the jacks was compounded by the fact that seawater occasionally backed violently out of them.
Ah good times. I took the vomit comet out of Dublin a few times only for a calm sea to turn into a rager. The state of the jacks was just …. something to behold. God help the poor sods who had to clean it all.
‘Tell ya sum’ting else
Remembering the smell ….
Vomitty Gawky putrid spew
Durty smoggie diesel
Ranky Fags and manky liquor
And stinging b o
‘Has me reaching for the sick bowl
That’s almost as bad as a Moyne-sy poem.
Sailed many a ship that shouldn’t a-sailed. The vomit river outweighs any fears of sinking or mutiny.
I saw a poor woman throw up her false teeth overboard…on a more appetising note remember the massive sausages Stena used to do though ? Highlight of my annual childhood chunder trip.
