A home for the bewildered politician…
I remember this photo – Jerry, the guy who turned out to have a lot less substance and integrity than he pretended to have – posing with his pal and mentor, Wilfred Brambell.
still amazed he appointed Muherne to the Seanad!
as am I, the lady is a joke
Ah yes, they are doing some work then, rearrangement of the trough, a FF guy gets the Cathaoirleach job, usually kept for a member of the majority party, and then FF support a nomination for a FG guy to Gov Leader in the Seanad. Well done all, glad to see you are getting your ducks in a row before you go off on your 3 months holidays.
This is the “new” politics is it? Doomed, we are. Jerry Buttimer and “Dr” James Reilly, potato, potato.

The “New” Politics seems to be the old coalition politics, only pretending it’s not a coalition and one party getting all the ministerships while t’other all the parliamentary offices.
I can understand saying ‘”new” politics’, but ‘”Dr” James Reilly’ – have his medical credentials been called into question(?)
You really are such a Fine Gael-loving cretin.
With regards to Seanad, article refers to the Manning Report, a proposal to have 30 of the 60 Senators elected by “universal suffrage”, that’s us btw!, a good idea, better if it was all 60 senators. Proposal dates back to April 2015 though so we could be waiting a while, or interminably waiting.

If they were all elected, how would that make it any different to the Dail?
@Kieran – Maybe no difference at all or maybe some difference in balance of power back towards the citizens. The point is the senate is mostly politicians elected by politicians, that is no use. Any change would be better than current setup.

Settle in for a wait.
The 7th Amendment to the Constitution to extend the “univeristy” vote in the Seanad to institutions other than the University of Dublin and the National University of Ireland was passed in August 1979. So far nothing has been delivered.
Interminably waiting? Err yes, I think so. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I’m implacably opposed to this rest home for election rejects and quango queens of both sexes. Let’s have sixty fewer pairs of lips on the public teat. Away with them.
I voted for reform ; )
In photo Jerry, clapping, telling poor Enda, i will clap it and ye can sing, it.
