Neil Dunne, of Trinity College Dublin’s all-male a capella choir Trinitones, writes:

We’ve just launched our music video of R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)”. The audio was recorded in Windmill Lane and we did the video with Christian Tierney who has recorded Gavin James, James Bay, Macklemore, The Staves and many more.

How is that Irish youth are perpetually downstream from the culture? This might and I mean might have been relevant in 2004/5

More relevant when Jimmy Fallon did a barbershop rendition of this several years ago. At least be original, lads.

        Bounce, Bounce
        Bounce, Bounce
        Bounce, Bounce
        Bounce, Bounce
        Bounce, Bounce
        Bounce, Bounce

They just don’t write lyrics like that anymore.

Why is it that the Irish are so negative in their commentary about everything? Would it really hurt to find a more positive thing to say? Well done lads, I enjoyed that and it doesn’t matter a flyin f**k what the hip kids might think. Keep up the good work. If you enjoy it, that’s all that matters.

Stop giving these Gakbags airtime. They’re even more up their own gowl than the Trinity Orchestra halfwits.

    Oh dear.
Didn’t they get the memo that you’re not supposed to help R Kelly earn royalties, as he’s a serial abuser who used a Chicago choir as a hunting ground to have sex with multiple 14/15 year olds and made a horribly degrading sex tape of a girl forensically estimated to be 13-14 years old?

Or wait: given the Macklemore-ish wardrobe and oddly lacklustre delivery, coupled with the out-of-touch song choice, is it supposed to be a deliberate piss-take of how stupidly anachronistic some a-capella bands can be? If so, good concept but poor execution and not that funny.

      1. Djin Genie

Er, that’s exactly what rape is, having sex with someone who can’t or doesn’t consent. My description is accurate and not remotely trying to minimise this scumbag’s actions, so your pedantry is erroneous and wildly misplaced.

The concept is bad but the recording is terrible too. They’re not good singers, the rhythm is all over the shop and their thick accents coming through ruins something that is already a disaster.

As a great man once said, it’s ride sally ride, not roid sally roid.

can i ask if you could specifically point out where the rhythm is “all over the shop”? it could be due to the inevitable difference resulting from another artist’s interpretation (if unsure of the definition, consult a dictionary. it should fall somewhere between “internet” and “troll”)

    1. pinners4winners

that sure is an enlightened observation. could i ask how you ended up at this result? i would love to see some of your choral arrangements of popular music.

      best wishes
