In The Bogman’s Cannon, writer Sarah Clancy provides an explainer/run-down on what is Direct Provision [at link below] while. above, artists speak out during the anti-DP rally run by United Against Racism on Saturday.

How can this be?
Either you are entitled to asylum, in which case you are welcomed.
Or, you are not entitled, in which case you are sent back to where you came from.
Who invented this nonsense?
Appeal lawyers
Of course.
Or possibly you are entitled to asylum but people who don’t like foreigners are determined that you shouldn’t have it…?
I’m more impressed with the legal gravy train explanation.
It seems much more likely.
Indeed. Uniquely among people engaging with legal processes, asylum seekers should not have the right of appeal.
For ten years? The problem is not the right of appeal. The problem is 10 years of it. I’d be grateful if you could explain to me how that’s not a farce.
Thank the Lord – the world has been waiting with bated breath to learn how the poets and artists felt about this topic.
What Sarah Clancy said.
