FG readies for snap election sez English Times.

All it would take now is for SF to get into government to really set the cat among the Brexit pigeons. Those who criticised Leo for sticking it to the brexiteers will be picking their jaw off the floor once Mary Lou gets going. If they want nationalism then that is what they get… Irish style.

    1. Marylou's ArmaLite

SF as the main government party?

Not sure if taking the wee wee? There are plenty not constituencies where they won’t get within an asset roar of a seat, and more where they’ll never get more than one seat.

        1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

SF don’t want to be a minority party, the other parties want nothing to do with SF and their gang of thugs and murderers.

Apart from wanting a united Ireland the Shinners lack any credible policies and their economic policy is taken straight from Jeremy Corbyn’s Teach Yourself Communism book.
And MaryLou’s recent “confusion” over a border poll shows the PIRA in Belfast are still pulling the strings behind the scenes.
But I suppose the barstool Republicans on here have got to have something to fantasise about while they’re waiting for the Wolfe Tones to write some new material.

I’m all in favour of a united Ireland old bean as I suspect most English people are.
You’re welcome to the whole can of worms.
          Can’t happen soon enough.
Tbh I’d really like the Jocks to shove off too.
Watching them turn into a third world country overnight would be fabulous entertainment.
Woad face-painted kilt-wearers scavenging in dustbins for leftover deep-fried Mars Bars.

          1. ReproButina

If most English people were genuinely in favour of a united Ireland then the border would not be the single biggest obstacle to Sasamach.

“watching them turn into a third world country overnight would be fabulous entertainment”

now you understand our giddiness over brexit

          3. Ollie Cromwell

The DUP is the single biggest obstacle to Brexit.
Most Brits I know couldn’t give a toss about the border.
In fact ALL of the Irish people I know couldn’t give a toss about the border either.
It’s an entirely manufactered “obstacle ” erected for political purposes.

          4. ReproButina

Bull. Even your hero, the quintessential threepio sound-a-like British toff, hasn’t suggested a united Ireland as a possible solution. Haven’t seen the tea boy talk it up in any of his opinion columns either.

          5. Topsy

Ollie. Very true. Most southerners don’t give a poo about NI & the border, although
a crowd of clowns here on BS kerp rising to your bait.

          6. ReproButina

But all they have to do to make Sasamach a “success” is break up the UK, which is what most English people want.

          7. Ollie Cromwell

            I haven’t suggested a united Ireland as a ” solution ” to Brexit.
I’ve said I wouldn’t give a toss if it happened.
Frankly the only ” solution ” to Brexit is what 17.4 million people voted for and that was leaving the SM and CU completely and taking back control of borders, finance and courts.
Hard Brexit will do for me pal.
Have a read of this and broaden your mind a bit from An Phoblacht’

          8. JunkFace

According to an Episode of season 3 Star Trek TNG I watched last night, Data said that Ireland was united in 2024. You can’t argue with that!

          9. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Junkface: I have a feeling I remember that episode. Well, at least I remember Data saying it. I am pretty sure I’ve watched every episode of that show.
Time well spent in the 90s. That and The West Wing. There’s a theme there, I think.

    3. ReproButina

Pure sabre rattling over FF’s lack of enthusiasm to Leo’s invitation to be the silent partner in a coalition for another while.

    4. Rob_G

SF are too transfer-toxic to get many more seats than they have currently.

SF are only interested in Brexit insofar as it is useful to in politikcing against the DUP and the Tories; they are consistently one of the most anti-EU parties in Ireland. They could have stopped Brexit if they had have even threatened to take up their seats in Westminister.

      1. johnny

Rob-theres’ a great book called “No Surrender: My Thirty-year War” by Hiroo Onoda he was the last Japanese solider to surrender in the 70’s in the Philippines.Upon finally surrendering he returned a hero to Japan, only to find it had changed in the intervening 30 years, he left and died in Brazil.
Rob the ‘war’ is over, you ideas/views on SF are stuck in the 1980’s,its a constant with you(army council), that you always return to,its old tired cliches, let it go man join us in 2018!

      1. The Old Boy

It is fairly standard practice in the luxury goods industry. It stops the market from being flooded with heavily discounted “last season” ware and driving down demand for the overpriced “current season” items. It certainly illustrates the gratuitous margins on such items.

  2. Martco

bit odd (even for the beano) to give over nearly a third of their front page spread to a red carpet dollybird photo of some mtv presenter

Is there so little news to report?

          1. Bertie Blenkinsop

I have vague memories of Kathy Lloyd at a Liverpool kit launch in the mid 90’s….
            Different times :)

          2. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Phwoarrrrrrr! Patrick Berger was the sole reason for me supporting Liverpool back when he played for them.
            OH YEAH.

  3. ReproButina

That “solution” from Dr. Bock is old news. When it was first discussed he pointed out a number of flaws including the need for physical control points and the need for every movement of goods and livestock to be recorded and declared. The DUP were more interested in the Swiss option he laid out but that’s a non runner for a number of reasons, not least the cost.

Your opinion piece also declares that “trade across the Irish border is minuscule” which is an obvious lie or a deliberate attempt to downplay the issue.
