not guna listen to this, just wanted to say that Boylan looks like if Brian O’Driscoll was a heavy drinker and never took to sports at all.

A vegan, a Trinity student and a girl with her nipple pierced walk into a bar. Which one tells you first?

I have been vegetarian for longer than I care to remember Star.

My advice is to take it slowly. Go meat free one day then two then three. Don’t beat yourself up if you flip every now and again, that is just habit. Start with things which rely heavily on the same herbs, vegetarian hot dogs for example. I recently had vegan white pudding from Aldi which brought me right back to childhood because of the seasoning.

Consider this. Processed products like sausages and fish fingers has a lot less meat in them than most people assume. Soya can be up to 50% in ready meals and even something like a chicken fillet is usually wrapped in breadcrumbs to mask the plant based bulking agents.

Cheap meats have a lot in common with vegetarian food in that they both rely on effort to make them tasty but the difference is that one does not involve the suffering of industrialised farming. And then there is the health benefits of not eating crap. Animals do not generate protein, they eat it, just like us, up to you.

        Good luck. xx.

It is all down to profit margins. Soya based products are way cheaper and store for much longer periods. In some cases meat is nearly just a garnish because some people have such a hang up about eating anything meat free, and they can still charge the higher prices.

Aw thanks for taking the time, SOQ!

Interesting point about the cheap meats – I actually gave up cheap meats a year or so ago as the first step, since they’re most likely to contain animals that lived miserable lives. I’m down to fish and the very occasional free range chicken or steak. But the Guardian’s long read on fish intelligence and pain this week has made me sort of panic about where I’m going to get my protein from now on.

          Step by step I spose!

SOQ – can you give more details on that vegan White pudding? didnt know there was such a thing but i am intrigued. dont see anything listed on their site

          1. SOQ

Apologies joxer it is vegetarian rather than vegan. Kellys of Newport was the name.

Still, a sign of the times when a butchers is making vegetarian food.

I think most vegans are humourless in the way people who have heard every stupid comment you’re going to make a million times already.

That’s fascinating if a little bit manky. I will still eat figs though. They’re delicious.

To be honest having an Irish person on British TV who can string two sentences together without pouting ( Graham Norton ) or showing his bloomers and saying feck ( Mrs Brown’s Boys ) is a rarity.
Trouble is Niall does have the look of the saloon bar at chucking out time about him.
Fair play to him for getting the gig though.

I watched a show about Adrian Chiles and his boozing recently. Really interesting. I like him.

Sitwell, who has also been a judge on Masterchef, swiftly apologised when the comments were made public this week, but it was not enough to save his job.

The man is vile. He sent PMs to my friend on Twitter giving out to them for following other Radio stations and DJs. They were proper freaked out by it

    1. SOQ

Staring at the screen all day and then gets angry when he has to use both hands to type? Pretty sure he comments on Broadsheet.

I lost what little respect I had for Boylan when he had that fruit loop Molly Martens on his radio show, her wailing down the line to the public to pass on her love to the children of the father she battered to death with a brick.

He was on the comments section then of his site being a d*ck about it some more.

    Attention seeking fool.

Veganism is often a divisive issue which provokes a lot of debate. Not so divisive is the general view that Niall Boylan is a contrarian and an almighty pain in the botty

    1. Spaghetti Hoop

Thought veganism was more of a personal choice than a divisive issue.

Q: do vegans convert their meat-eating pets and animals to veganism?

      1. missred

It is a personal choice yes but as we can see above, it can be the entire subject of a TV slot so yes it can be divisive.
Only idiots try and convert their meat-eating pets to veganism, people have killed animals that way. They are not evolved the way we are to eat a plant based diet. Cats especially.

      2. The Old Boy

During the many centuries when meat was generally not consumed during Lent, the long season of abstinence usually extended to domestic animals. Dogs frequently went mad for want of meat and attacked livestock.

      3. Nigel

I’ve known people who have and the pets are perfectly happy. You have to do it carefully and, I think, be prepared to pay for a higher grade of pet food.

Where did this lad Boylan come from, he’s only just popped up on my radar and I have followed current affairs for years. He’s a silly pants and why is he given airtime ,well I know why actually (see Katie Hopkins). I bet he voted Casey. I can smell the fags off him from here. God he’s horrible. Is that his real hair?
