If you said that to the man I think you would find your jaw in the next field. Despicable comment. But of course you are entitled to your pathetic remark.

Of course not. But Harris might not have a peaceful reply

Jared is the spit of him. There is something very vulnerable and afflicted about both father and son’s countenances. Richard I think could take on any role – one of the greats. As usual in Britain, became tabloid fodder for his drinking and republicanism.

Who he played has nothing to do with his leanings. Harris was vocal about his nationality and was republican in his views.

I liked the man’s acting (and I love, love ‘MacArthur Park’)

But no self-respecting Irishman should have played Cromwell in a film that portrayed him in such a sympathetic (heroic, even) manner.

I’ll second that comment above re This Sporting Life. Brilliant film that is still worth watching today.

Picked up a free dvd of it off The Sunday Times about ten+ year ago. Gets a viewing every few years to :)

There was a strange time about 10-15 years ago where newspapers, normally the Irish versions of British tabloids, were giving away great British films for free on DVD. I got my copy of ‘Withnail & I’ from some Sunday paper.

        Got that too.

One of my favourite freebies from that “free-DVD” era was the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense live album :)

‘When he reached what he saw as the unexpected milestone of 70, he took delight in being old enough that he could “be eccentric and get away with it”. His residence at The Savoy Hotel in London, was costing him a fortune but, as he quite rightly pointed out, there were people paying mortgages who couldn’t call someone at four in the morning for a sandwich. He could and he did. Not that he let the apparently excellent service get in the way of a good joke. “It was the food!” he bellowed as he was wheeled out of the hotel for the last time. It wasn’t. It was in fact Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.’
