Last week with a cool Golden Discs voucher worth €25 on offer, I asked YOU to name your favourite song featuring snow.
You answered in your tens.
But there could be only one winner.
Third Place:
Last of the Melting Snow by The Leisure Society
Leopold Gloom writes:
OOOh, I got this, I have to have this. Favouite (and best) song featuring snow is this simply beautiful song by The Leisure Society – Last of the Melting Snow. Shearwater’s Snow Leopard gets an honorable mention, but this one is just lovely in every way.
Runner up:
The Snows They Melt The Soonest by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh & Ger O Donnell
F_lawless writes:
There’s so many versions of this traditional English folk song that dates back to at least the early 1800s but this one is as good as any I’ve heard. Recorded two months ago – just two people in a living room with a guitar and a shruti box.
Winner:
Snowing On Raton by Townes Van Zandt
Specific Gravity writes:
Shall I cast my dreams upon your love, babe?
Thanks all.

One reason I love these competitions is that you find new songs you never came across before. Even a browse in a great record store holds the fear that if you buy this, you will not like it. No such fear in Nick’s competition!
Of the three songs above, I had not heard two of them before this competition. Personally, I think The Snows They Melt The Soonest inches it, but such a hard call!
Three great songs! Well done, @Specific Gravity! Enjoy the vouchers!
I feel a distinct lack of love for the Muppets cast and their repertoire
And all the makings of an apartheid regime
I may have to consider a boycott
Just for you, my lady :)
