Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar speaking to journalists outside the HSE Dublin Covid 19 response hub in Granegorman, Dublin yesterday
More fear porn?
This morning.
Ahead of the Dáil sitting from noon today when statements will be made on the economy, health and education, The Irish Times, reports on a ‘jaw-dropping’ memo sent to cabinet on the next phase of the pandemic
In a note sent to the Cabinet from the Department of the Taoiseach this week, Ministers were told that while the initial stage was “both swift and unprecedented, and was experienced by everyone together and in a relatively unified spirit”, this may change as the long-term effects come into play.
“This includes unemployment, reduced income, increased debt, closure of businesses, reduced educational opportunities, restrictions on movement and social interactions, and ultimately the loss of loved ones.”
The note, the tone of which was described as “jaw-dropping” by sources, outlined the challenges ahead, such as the difficulty of opening some sections of the economy and not others, reducing income supports and tightening procedures for those entering the country, as well as opportunities.
Save yourselves, etc.

Here we go again, “… and there will be no austerity like the last time”, they said…
…but privately, what are they saying, doing and really planning?
Ireland is not a democracy.
THE BASIC FOUNDATION OF A REAL DEMOCRACY REQUIRES ANY REAL POLITICAL LEADERSHIP TO BE ELECTED AT THE BALLOT BOX.
– However corrupt the process and system may be.
We need another election asap. and bring an end to this pseudo democratic-republic state of psychadelic facism and bring about a true sovereign democratic republic for all!

Strategically leaked Memo more like
Nothing reported in it is new or unexpected, or hasn’t already done the rounds of the friendly mainstreams
Its intention is to scare and convince the public and the Dáil, that they’d all be better off with the crowd in charge now. They pulled us out of the last walloping crash – which comes with an obligatory mention to call it the Fianna Fail caused economic crash.
And shur isn’t Simon Harris a hoot
Hey this Spin Doctor lad is good int’ he
It just looks like they’re stating the obvious, rather directly. I don’t see anything shocking in it. Did anyone expect society to return to normal on 5 May, or return to normal without any repercussions?
2020 is going to be a very hard year. Sucks ass.
this. as opposed to other loons posting above.
Also 2021, 2022….
In fairness
I’ve been called a lotta things and accused of a lot of stuff over the years
I have to tell you Con
That’s the first time I’ve been called a Loon
That I can remember anyway
They’re a beautiful bird, you should be flattered
Demonic red eyes set aside
Sure, the obvious current reality together with the IT, the desperate hoor for an attention seeking headline..
So, you disagree with the idea of another election?…
You’re happy to go along with this unelected cabal of proven incompetance who, after years of opportunities wasted are still not governing the country in any way that prioritises for the public good?…
A loon from the perspective of an eejit, maybe?… Even worse, is it apathy or surrender?..
:-J
agreed. looks like some people just can’t handle the truth.
Cian for someone with more than half a braincell..
Is it not at least a little bit obvious to you, that you lose an awful lot of credibility when you defend the F-f/g duopoly for neo-liberal economics almost without fail at every opportunity…
I ‘ll freely admit to being almost completely anti-F-f/g and that anything else is better…
Will you admit you’re a die hard F-f/g supporter to the end?.. I’m not talking about morality or conservatism.
It’s strange behaviour, to say the least..

Its what the people keep voting for.
But in classic Irish style we can keep asking them to vote until they get it right.
Based on the whole left-right political divide – I’m somewhere in the centre. I was more socialist when I was younger but I’ve drifted right.
My personal preference is for a one (or two) party government – not a rainbow coalition. I think that independent TDs are a waste of time at National level (with a few exceptions that try to keep the sitting government honest).
So those two points, for me today, translates into FF or FG. If there were other parties that ticked those boxes I would consider voting for them.
People look at all the bad things that the governments have caused in Ireland and blame FF/FG.
I try to balance this by also looking at all the good things that the governments have caused – and give credit to FF/FG.
Oh, and I’m not sure when I’ve “defended the F-f/g duopoly for neo-liberal economics “. I have corrected people (and provide facts) where people misrepresent (or lie) about things. But that is different to defending them.
Another political cocktail can’t wrestle with reality in 2020.
tourism …gone
overpriced pubs and resteraunts ..dead in the water
slave labour language school factories….no raw material.
the future is unemployment. hold on to what you have
Fear porn? Stating the obvious more like.
How many posts have you issued now saying that maybe they’re not counting deaths correctly and it isn’t too bad, that the restrictions are out of balance to the risks associated, that it is all just fear porn?
Grow up bodger, you dangerous child.
