Minister for Social protection Joan Varadkar Burton (above) said that those who refuse to take up job or training opportunities would see their payments cut by up to €44 a week, because she believes school leavers, in particular, are using the dole as a “lifestyle choice”.
She estimates between 1 and 3 per cent of dole claimants are doing so because they would rather get the dole than stack shelves at Tesco.
That would mean at least ONE of the people in the queue above MAY be on the doss/playing in a band/writing for a rolling satirical news website.
And to think Joan wanted to be Minister for Finance.
If she’d had the choice, like.
