Why would it make you wonder? Last year everything was closed. No workplace accidents, no drunks, no sports injuries. People cocooning, staying in, washing hands, wearing masks limiting diseases spreading and much less traffic on the road reducing accidents.

    Not everything is a conspiracy!

    1. Cui Bono?

There was actually more car accidents in 2020 than 2019. Check RSA for yourself.

Also, masks don’t stop the spread of viruses – check the RCTs for yourself – 40 years of studies on this.

      1. Daisy Chainsaw

Fair enough, more accidents. The other factors would have reduced a&e/ambulance numbers.

        1. Cui Bono?

Everything was much more open last summer so you need to think more about this.

    2. Zaccone

What? Last July Ireland was significantly more open than now. Indoor dining, more social events, larger weddings etc…

      1. Micko

Yup, and now we have vaccines. Makes no sense.

Here’s Michael O’Leary talking about the difference between Ireland and Europe when it comes to aviation and travel. Ryanair back up to 80% operations.

What the hell is going on?

Some randomer’s nephew you say? Completely empty you say?

    It did make me wonder!
It made me wonder why I still occasionally drop by this place and inflict this noise on my brain.

sorry for being a thick here but what’s the point exactly?

    a) everyone getting carted into hospital with Delta?
    b) everyone getting carted into hospital with post jab wonky?
    c) ambulances driving around nee-naw for optics?
    d)…

  4. Verbatim

Or, perhaps, just perhaps, there are fewer medical/front of house staff employed than before the “crisis”?

  5. Tarfton Clax

This site has really gone to the dogs. Apart from that lovely piece on the Swiss Army Knife, there are just too many of these Nonsense posts. Woooooooooooooh the nasty vaccine is killing us aaaaaaaallllllll… probably… maybe…. I heard it from a man with two pints in each hand…

    A pity.

    1. scottser

gone to the dogs? what kind of dogs? dogs in supermarket trollies? cos they were very cute.

  6. Bitnboxy

Oh God. Well, Gemma O’D has a very defined view on ambulances not to mention the alleged vaccine carnage in Beaumont. Good to see Bodge and not BS giving her an aul bit of support. Shur, aren’t BS isn’t Bodger just asking the “hard” questions…

    Quite incredible.

    1. Bitnboxy

Lol. My post has been edited. Isn’t Bodger isn’t effectively Broadsheet? Bodger’s views are his own – not Broadsheet’s. What I am missing? The vast bulk of Bodger’s posts are decided upon by Bodger.

        1. Bitnboxy

Take your places in the queue then. The amount of “truth” tellers unleashed by Covid-19 is beginning to surpass the amount of reported cases.

          Aren’t we lucky!

          1. Bodger

If I’m wrong, I’ll be the same idiot. If I’m right, you’ll be an unwitting accessory to genocide.

          2. Bitnboxy

EEP! At least you are not claiming I’ll be a witting accessory to genocide. Well, not yet…

  7. Yoji

Genocide? Wtf? Who’s committing genocide? Seriously who? What government or agency? Please let us know your true feelings about this so we can be clear of your thought process?

As to the OP. Waiting times were a nightmare in Ireland for as long as I remember. Last year was different for all the reasons given above and also a lot of people were too scared to go to the hospital and just stayed home nursing the injury. Mostly the lockdown just cut down on the usual injuries. Pubs being closed would make a huge difference.

Now everything is basically open again. The queues will be longer inches pubs are fully up again. Something to look forward to.

Wow, these anecdotal observations to support some weird agenda – they really make you think, don’t they!?!?!?!

  9. Redundant Proofreaders Society

This is like the near/far away sketch from Father Ted.

If you had an omnipresence over every single road in the country, or were simply on the road frequently, yep…you would see more ambulances.

If you took up residence near a main road and kept your windows open, yep…you would hear more ambulances.

Why are our vaccination rates lower than most of the EU when every country gets same quantities pro rata?

  11. Des

A & e full of people who probably shouldn’t be there, just like the nephew in the article

  12. wearnicehats

    Few possibilities:

Patients requiring urgent medical care are less likely to be deterred from attending the ED for fear of acquiring COVID-19 or that they are adding to the pressure on the health service than this time last year

GPs are more likely to refer patients to hospital than this time last year

The probability of injury or illness increases as a result of reduced travel, sport, and social contact

More people are back at work and, frankly, there are, therefore, more people looking for an excuse to get off work again

Waiting times are exponential. You can’t say that an A&E department can deal with 10 people an hour. Maybe they can deal with 20, maybe only 5 depending on the severity of the triage. People are assessed and prioritised. If you’re not in danger then you’re going to wait. And wait. Probably until you decide that there’s no reason to be there and go home. Bit like his nephew…

  13. spud

If he was there for 5 hours and ‘had to leave’, did he need to be there in the first place?

  14. SOQ

Nobody asking why is an A & E so under staffed that patients have to sit in such close proximity to each other, for 12- 14 hours, in the middle of a pandemic?
