Visitors to nursing homes will be required to show a Covid vaccination certificate, a HSE vaccination record or another proof of immunity before entering the premises.
That is according to a new document published by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
The advice, outlined in the document entitled ‘Normalising visiting in Long-Term Residential Care Facilities’, will be implemented from Monday.
Among the key points listed about visiting long-term residential care facilities like nursing homes is the requirement of window visits to be allowed at all times.
It notes that the term “visitor” does not include Essential Service Providers, who provide healthcare, legal, financial, advocacy and regulatory services.

We know that vaccines mean frig all when it comes to infectiousness so why shouldn’t all be made to show proof of immunity? Surely that is the best way of ensuring patient safety?
This is assuming ‘immunity’ means non infectious of course, as nobody can prove they are immune- very shoddy writing.

Kim, do you accept a vaccinated person can get infected and infect another? It’s an established fact that they can. Therefore, even a triple vaccinated person could potentially infect any number of residents in such a home yet the government and NPHET act like they are “immune” to infection. Antigen testing for all vaccinated and unvaccinated visiting such facilities to detect infectious cases,the only ones that are relevant to this discussion, is the approach that actually would focus on the issue of transmission. Vaccine passes do not stop transmission if every holder can still be a potential carrier and the pass does nothing to let you know in any way whether they are infected or not at that time.
Again you’re looking at it through a very narrow lens and being selective with what you’re saying. No one says vaccines eliminate transmission. But vaccines reduce transmissions risks and limit the window that someone is infectious. The contrast between vaccinated and unvaccinated is not narrow.

Your point about antigen tests is valid though. Ireland’s aversion to antigen testing is probably a factor in the high case rate at the moment.
At this point, over any time period, there is absolutely zero evidence that vaccinated are any less infectious than unvaccinated- it is complete speculation.
And even if there was, being say 50% less risk of being infectious is still not good enough, especially when dealing with the most vulnerable and high risk people in our society.
Everyone should be tested, every single time they visit.
No it’s not. The evidence is document. It’s peer reviewed. It’s accepted by the overwhelming majority of the science community.

The science cannot be settled, the science is never settled. It is only recently they even acknowledged that these vaccines wane in efficacy, they are not a fixed level of protection.
Furthermore, the manufacturers never promised inoculation against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, only reduction in severe symptoms of the CoVid-19 disease.
And given that they rapidly wane, it is highly likely that the infectiousness rises in tandem- otherwise explain the likes of Israel and Singapore where near everyone is vaccinated, and yet the thing keeps spreading the same- more even.
And don’t give me guff about variants- if natural immunity protects against variants, then so should the vaccines.

Tony stating clearly that asymptomatic vaccinated can be infected yet Tony and NPHET are not testing asymptomatic vaccinated close contacts. How many thousands of infected cases have they missed through this deliberate omission? They don’t want to test them in order to completely skew the case figures and con the public into believing cases are much higher in the unvaccinated cohort compared to the vaccinated. They’re leaving out the largest cohort of potential positives.
People should stop getting tested full stop. It’s just adding to their narrative. Perhaps a self antigen test if visiting someone vulnerable, but if your not symptomatic – there’s little need for that even.
Non-compliance is the only way out.

My comment was in response to the topic at hand- namely allowing potentially infectious people into nursing homes.
If my overall comments appear repetitious then that is because Vaccine Passports just do not make sense.

They are completely out of step with near all of Europe on this issue now.
I think on antigen testing and vaxx cases we may be in agreement Cian. If the vaccinated can be infected, testing for infectious cases, the ones which pose an actual risk of transmission, using antigen tests for all is the obvious solution.
They are avoiding antigen tests as this would undermine their drive to vaccinate every person in the country. Antigen tests would do what the vaxx pass is fraudulently claimed to do now.

If they actually cared about residents’ safety they would require antigen tests from ALL visitors, vaccinated or not.

I visited my uncle, the last surviving battle of britian fighter pilot, before the locking down of society, twice a week for the pub and a meal. After the Covid I couldn’t see him for over a year so it was telephone only. Up until now, since the reopening of nursing homes for visits, I have been able to visit again and at 102 he is fully compus mentus and we have a laugh about world absurdities. As the only member of the family residing in Ireland there’s nobody else able to visit. As an anti-THIS -vaxxer that’ll be the end of his visits. The nursing home where resides is excellent, without a single Covid fatality so far and with all the precautions taken I can’t see the logic in this. After all it was the Government themselves who are responsible for the excess deaths from Covid moving ill elderly into the nursing homes in the first place.Heartless, careless and very hard on my Uncle, who, after being shot down 5 times during the battle of Britain deserves more humane treatment, as do all elderly residents, than this shower of fools are prepared to consider. Such a rich life lived, up until now.

Showing a Covid vaccination certificate as a means to enter a care home seems reckless at best.
Tomorrow I’ll go and visit my Mother in the Care Home she resides in. It’ll be my final visit, the last time I will ever see her alive, if the government have their way.
Those evil pigs won’t have their way, though. I will get a fake vaccine passport, if neccessary. I know all the staff in her care home, none of them is physically capable of excluding me from seeing her, even if they try, so I will not allow them to do so. I don’t believe many of them are emotionally capable, of stopping me, either but if I must become a criminal, I will.
If they call the cops & they arrest me or attempt to, I will resist & they won’t want to go through it again. But I will do it again & again & again. My beautiful, beloved Mum, who I love above all but my own children, will not be prevented from seeing her first-born, who she gave birth to on the other side of the world, thousands of miles from her family, her home & her friends.
If I find I cannot get access to visits & I need a name for my pain, well, unfortunately for my local FF TD, he lives just around the corner.

Will you get tested before visiting the nursing home with your fake covid pass?
An antigen test would be advisable and would render K.Cavan a safer visitor than those entering bases on the vaccine pass alone. Superior protection for the elderly by using a simple test. The government refusing to use the most effective means of reducing transmission with their myopic obsession with vaccinating every person in the country and creating a biometric digital pass society.

But if I might give you a bit of advice. Over the past crazy 20 months of me not following these restrictions, I’ve come to the conclusion that if you calmly and rationally discuss your opinion with people they are usually fine about things.
Perhaps you could have a chat with the staff and explain your situation and tell that you will provide proof of an antigen test before visiting your mum.
If you go in there with guns blazing they will bring the hammer down and you’ll be screwed.
Appeal to their humanity.
Or you could take her out of there and bring her to your house where you could see her with impunity.
No tantrums required.
The vaccines don’t provide immunity, only natural infection does. They were not even made to do so. They were made to stop serious illness and death.
