Strange that you’re more concerned about what’s appearing on the front pages of the English papers than concerned about what the Irish papers are.

      1. scottser

State of them though. Tories are caught again being absolute poohawks. The express then tries to explain why we MUST get behind boris.
The UK is a derelict bum ranting at the clouds. When you try and pay attention to it all you can see is the ever enlarging piss stains.
        It really is best avoided.

        1. Joe F

Still Irish people go there to follow their soccer teams, most TV Irish people watch is British, we listen to their singers (Adele, Ed Sheeran, etc). Need I go on? They are an extremely creative nation, most of the major sports of the world were started by them, their musical hall of fame is only matched by the US – still it is far easier (and hypocritical) to poke fun at their failures and just not talk about their successes. Many (not all) Irish people are very hypocritical in the way they view the English. And I’m not blind to the fact that it works the other way too, you mentioned the Daily Express, a complete joke of a paper.

          1. scottser

You make the mistake of thinking that most English people are tories. They’re not. Tories are evil ladypartz.

It’s not that long ago where people voted FFG to keep the IRA ‘terrorists’ out.

Now they are going to vote SF, to get the FFG terrorists out- it’s a funny old world sometimes.

      1. SOQ

SF did and at they time they were regarded as the same thing- hence the silly voice overs.

Maybe we will have voice overs for FFG soon? Now that would be funny.

        1. Tom J

Sinn Fein are a political party.
The IRA were a guerilla army who believed they were fighting the injustices of the British government.

…now there’s defiant…the Irish Times advertising a concert with Van Morrison in the Europa Hotel in Belfast in January…wonder will he be doing a duet with Paisley Junior like last year…

a massive fupp off, they can’t blame the babies for clubbing or school

      1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

honestly I’m don’t know why I’m going to waste my breath,
yes kids do get shots, mine have ALL of theirs, ones with longterm data and for disease that is actually dangerous to them you know the opposite to this bull.

          1. ce

Isn’t polio more dangerous to adults than children and only impacts on a tiny percentage of the population?

            https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/11/11/polio-isnt-serious-threat-most-children-we-still-require-vaccines-it-anyway/

We shouldn’t have ended up having to vaccinate the whole country for a preventable disease, but so many people (including government, Nphet, chin-warmers, face-visors-armor wearers, lobby groups etc… etc..) couldn’t/wouldn’t follow the most basic actions… so we are where we are…

          2. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

my apologies if I sound abrupt, I’m tired of the whole poo show and mismanagement of said pooshow,
also the arguments just go around around in circles much as I like the idea of a discussion, the polarisation of the world we are living in renders them a rather fond memory, a bit like my career, savings and any trust in the government.
Have a good weekend, I’m off to drum up some Christmas cheer although what’s really the fupping point at this stage.

          3. 1-2-1-2

            Ah come on Janet
I understand you are miserable – but let’s face it – you would be putting your trust in the people who have given us Brandon and the Tuam mother and baby home shitshow – did you really ever think they would manage a global pandemic well? I have given up on that long ago and I just live with the system – I don’t depend on it – or have any faith in it – then, never disappointed

          4. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I didn’t have much faith to start but they have surpassed even my most dire predictions,
            I’m not miserable, I’m angry.
I’m a pretty upbeat person normally but this nonsensical patronizing bull would wind anyone up.

          5. Nigel

‘We shouldn’t have ended up having to vaccinate the whole country for a preventable disease,’

If it was all that preventable we wouldn’t have ended up etc.

          6. Micko

I dunno Janet, I heard that once all the babies are injected, things will definitely, definitely 100% go back to normal.

Like super serious, scouts honour this time

      2. Clampers Outside

You don’t have to be angry to say ‘no’…. or cuss when saying so.

        It’s just a ‘no’.

          1. Clampers Outside

I’ve never said ‘no’ to someone’s freedom to claim any gender, no matter how daft it is.

I said ‘no’ to using such gender ideology to replace sex.

… Doesn’t mean it is, doesn’t mean it isn’t… therefore carry on as if nothing is happening… not that the current methods of unfocused restrictions will end this nonsense anytime soon… plus the mask-as-chin-warmer brigade and “seasonal flu” internet doctors and the anti-Covid-vaxx sure-I’ll be-grand-brigade-and-after-all-it’s-all-about-me… it would drive you to the (before 8PM) drink…

    1. 1-2-1-2

The funny thing is how this disease rewards shut ins – it doesn’t bother anyone who has no friends – yet here they all are on this website eh?

    2. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

Apart from Polio being disastrous to a child while unless vulnerable like my niece ( who now has a booster ) is a case of the sniffles like my now imune other Rugrats of the family.

      1. Nigel

It’s a worse case scenario, but covid running through a family could be pretty disastrous for the surviving children even if they only experience the covid itself as a dose of the sniffles.

        1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

          could be *
grandpa has COPD and one lung
he’s still sitting in his chair winding up the world
          hugs were a no

    3. SOQ

So why has South Africa got the lowest fatality rates since the pandemic began and consider it to be as so mild that they have not introduced ANY restrictions?

      1. Nigel

‘the lowest fatality rates since the pandemic began’

Interetsting phrasing. How low or high is that actually setting the bar?

          1. Nigel

90,000+ deaths, and rising, albeit slower now than before. Jesus. Has it occured to you that your attempt at comparative analysis is woefully undercooked?

          2. SOQ

Total deaths mean frig all on the time line Nigel- they had 35 yesterday, which is miniscule for this big scary Omicron variant we are all supposed to be so afraid of.

Actually, their average figures from the begining of October has been pretty good.

          3. SOQ

South Africa sees fewer hospitalisations as Omicron cases surge

South Africa on Wednesday recorded its highest number of cases since the spread of the pandemic, driven by the rapid spread of Omicron. However, Dr Michelle Groome, of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), said on Friday that hospitalisations have not increased “at such a dramatic rate”.

            https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/12/17/south-africa-sees-fewer-hospitalisations-as-omicron-cases-soar

          4. Nigel

‘Total deaths mean frig all on the time line Nigel’

Your comparative analysis skills are visibly worsening, and they were no great shakes to start with.

          5. SOQ

Sometimes you clearly waffle for the sake of it.

You do understand that the topic at hand was the omicron variant?

          6. Nigel

The topic at hand was you making claims about the South African lack of additional response to the omicron variant and extrapolating in a vague way about what everybody else should or should not be doing. Absent from your comment was any actual information on what the SA response to covid has actually been so far and whether it has appeared to have any effect. So ‘lowest death rates since the pandemic began’ and ‘not introducing new restrictions’ both need a little unpacking and clarification in relation to each other and a few other data sets and points of information before we start copying the SA response based entirely on your say-so.

The Netherlands has completely locked down, probably due to the fact that they bungled their booster rollout. See? You don’t have to pick just one jurisdiction for your comparisons. More is actually better.

  4. Gearoid

I’m still trying to work out why the Goverment is urging widespread use of antigen tests this Christmas when Nphet have specifically argued against this.
It’s almost like they don’t have a clue what they’re doing.

    1. Micko

And I’m afraid that’s where we reach the end of our program dear viewers.

Make sure to tune in next time on “Nigel’s Nature News” for more DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

      Stay safe kids…

      1. bisted

        …so you’re a climate denier as well, Micko…

        …in fairness…you haven’t missed a bandwagon…

      2. GiggidyGoo

Oh noooooooo!. The Delta version of the Omicron super duper bigger-than-the-UK-glacier. The sea level will rise 0.5M, and Nigel will be proven correct. Then again, if it doesn’t, then Nigel will be proven wrong.

She said health workers had asked her to give some examples of what they experience on a daily basis and these included a report from a nurse that “she was standing with a patient who was very breathless, in his 30s, not vaccinated, struggling for breath and saying ‘I made the wrong decision’. He did not make it,” Ms Ní Sheaghdha said.

“The numbers of people who are not vaccinated and are having very, very poor outcomes are simply incredible at the moment.

The groupthink is really entrenched at this stage. The only answer they’re able come up with is “Vaccinate! Vaccinate Vaccinate!” And NPHET’s modelling has an awful track record at this stage. There’s something really gone awry when the head of national health body is advocating raising fear levels among an already mentally fragile general public to gain compliance.

Maybe it’s time to accept that those who haven’t been vaccinated are not about to change their minds at this stage after months of being subjected to state oppression and it becoming increasingly obvious that the attached vaccine passport system is showing no signs of being temporary. Why not focus on urging people to take steps to boost their immune system? Instigate a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about a home-based early treatment protocol? (As set out by the renowned Dr Peter McCullough et al https://aapsonline.org/CovidPatientTreatmentGuide.pdf) . Won’t happen because our health service has been effectively hijacked by the pharmaceutical industry.

‘Ms Ní Sheaghdha said hospital workers were “incredulous” that there was a debate about 5pm or 8pm hospitality closing.’

What a condescending way to frame it. The debate about 5pm or 8pm is just a NPHET/govt contrivance. The real issue is thousands upon thousands of people are set to permanently lose their jobs with these restrictions being imposed yet again which are arbitrary in nature and don’t have valid scientific backing.

        1. f_lawless

I guess engaging with the points made is too much to expect..”know your place..who are we to even have an opinion?”…get off your knees

          1. Micko

“What qualifications do you have to make observations on public health policy?”

He”s a member of the public, he’s also a living human and he’s interested in health policies are, as they affect him.

He’s also entitled to his observations and opinions.

By your logic, you need to be a qualified mechanic to talk about cars, a qualified chef to talk about food etc etc.

There’s an awful bang of the old school Catholicism off all of this.

“Who are YOU to question the Bishops!!!! You don’t even speak latin!”
