From top: Fine Gael Senator Regina Doherty; The “No Woman Left Behind” rally is due to take place ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8
This morning.
Further to furore over a rally organised by the National Women’s Council which has excluded speakers from women of the Green Party, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil…
…Via RTE News:
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Regina Doherty described the decision as juvenile and counterproductive.
She said women are not competition for each other and that working together is more impactful.
Ms Doherty said she has a fundamental problem that an organisation that is nearly entirely funded by the State and whose mission statement is to empower and unite women has chosen to exclude some women.
She said the NWC is not tolerant of the views of all women.
Meanwhile…
People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith, who is one of the speakers at the event, said she did not believe it was appropriate for people who belong to political parties that cut services for victims of violence to speak at the rally.

doherty is unfortunately correct according to the nwci mission statement. they would have been better off letting FG and the greens speak so they can be held to account on a public forum rather than looking like hypocrites.
would they like me to mansplain it to them, i wonder?
hahahaha
it was appropriate for people who belong to political parties that cut services for victims of violence to speak at the rally.
Correct
Is it appropriate that the leader of a party who has actually carried out brutal acts of violence against women (SF) is invited to speak at the expense of, say, the Greens?
The most baffling thing about this is that c. 15-25 years ago, when FF and FG could both claim to be centre-right or conservative on social and economic issues, they were joyfully pouring millions into left-wing NGOs intent on their political defeat. The left-wing NGOs won: both FG and FF are now wannabee left-wingers.
And Regina only takes a stand against the lefty quangos when she isn’t invited to the party, despite her “job of work” in bringing in abortion on demand.

She started her radio IV this morning with ”Firstly, this isn’t about me…” at which point I switched it off, but I’ll hazard a guess it almost certainly is/was about her.
