Thank Fletch it’s Friday.
It’s that time of the week you’ve all been waiting for. I can feel your excitement through my keyboard.
And so without further ado, let’s get this voucher-free music party started.
This week, on the 45th anniversary of the release of the debut album by The Clash, I want to know: what’s your favourite punk anthem?
Here’s mine.
Please include video links if possible.
Lines MUST close on Saturday at Midday.
Last week, I asked for your favourite song with flowers in the title or lyrics. You answered in your tens.
Gorugeen won my esteem with this entry:
Led Zeppelin – Misty Mountain Hop
Gorugeen writes:
“Always makes me think of our holidays in France: Sitting at the top of the meadow, watching all the happy people arrive and as the sun dips behind the trees the music starts. My happy place.”
Nick says: Congratulations Gorugeen. Thanks to everyone who entered.
Last week: Win Nick’s Esteem

top one for the win, Gorugeen…!

Seems a collage of sampled songs
My favourite punk song ever was rise by PIL followed by songs by the clash and of course anything by the sex pistols
It took me years to appreciate punk
And punk had to happen when rock became elevator music
Could never get into trash metal
even though lydon is a dose, pretty vacant is a right banging tune:

Top “Hop” for the win, Gorugeen…

love alternative ulster – what about suspect device –
inflamable material how’s that for a record.
For the era we currently live in…
Dead Kennedys Nazi Punks Effoff

Punk might be a stretch ,musically at least.
however – check the attitude on a youthful Joe Jackson

The greatest rock band that ever walked the planet
The Clash suck… rudie can’t fail is the exception that proves the rule… In any event I’ll go for the Proto-Punk group The Monks and “I Hate You”

Thanks Nick. That’s put a smile on me. Cheers.
My favourite punk track is Waiting Room by Fugazi. They were pure punk in their off-stage endeavours. I’d give my right leg to go back in time and attend this gig.
https://youtu.be/SGJFWirQ3ks
The Buttocks – BGS GSG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdXg0SD-UZc – too bad no video
Love the rawness of punk
Five Go Down To The Sea? and anything by Nun Attax
Exhibit A: Knocknaheeny Shuffle –

Richard Hell & the Voidoids – Blank Generation
https://youtu.be/zMtWr5oNhFw
Hell’s former band mate in Television plays guitar on this. Writer Jon Savage suggests it was the first punk record.
Patti Smith – Piss Factory
https://youtu.be/wFcWBrkQ87M
Public Image Limited – Public Image
https://youtu.be/rIAZ8unRm2c
Too late for consideration.
Not only one of the greatest punk songs of all time, this is one of the greatest songs of all time. The guitar line throughout this song is just incredible.
Manic Street Preachers – Motown Junk
https://youtu.be/axAJ0RtBd7I
Another too late for consideration.
Too young for the original punk period the boys from Blackwood were as close as I got, in the flesh. The early Manics oozed punk’s attitude and spirit. In the best tradition this song seeks to trash cultural totems that went before.
Hugely overused in ads and on TV generally but Ca Plane Pour Moi by Plastic Bertrand is an all time classic

We always associate Punk with the class of ’77 – when young folk revolted against the hypnosis gatefold album sleeves and triple live albums from such crimes against music as ELP / Yes and pure sh1te like Kiss, Genesis or Peter Frampton (FFS) etc…..But there were many precursors to the CBGBs crew and The Clash. I’d date punk to the class of ’69 and either The Stooges or the MC5 as the Velvet Underground were just plain avant garde
The Stooges
“I wanna be your dog”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gsWt7ey6bo
MC5
Kick out the Jams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvJGQ_piwI0
It’s Hipgnosis Stephen
Anyway I do quite agree with your opinion,
Punk for me started with the MC5, Iggy and the Stooges and then migrated into the New York Dolls
Pennywise – Bro Hymn
